Red Wings 4,Predators 3... watch out,NHL... two facts:Red Wings,so far,are the ONLY NHL team,without two back to back regulation losses,this season... Red Wings were 4-1-1(a critical nine points,of twelve points),on a very difficult six game road trip,ending today... by the way,a third fact:Red Wings sweep both season series games from the best team(point-wise),in the NHL,in beating the Predators... note:they beat the Predators,5-2,January 17th,in Detroit... second note:they have swept both the Chicago Blackhawks,and the Predators...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 3,Sharks 2... the Sharks out-shot the Red Wings,14-4,in the first period,and looked like the dominant team early,but the team defense of the Red Wings limited the Sharks to only eight shots in the last two periods,as the Red Wings finally got started in the second period,and out-shot the Sharks 31-8,in the last two periods... the Sharks had only two shots,in third period... Pavel Datsyuk's backhand goal in the third period looked like the shot that broke the will of the Sharks to compete... the Sharks have lost the last six games at the "Shark Tank",and seven "home" games,overall(one being outdoors,against the Los Angeles Kings,2-1,at Levi's Stadium,in Santa Clara)...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Kings 1,Red Wings 0...very good game for both teams... only a deflected shot by Justin Williams beat Red Wings' goaltender Jonas Gustavsson in the first period... first road shutout of the Red Wings,this season... third game in four nights for Red Wings,so i expected some fatigue,tonight,but honestly,to lose 1-0,is amazing in itself... a stonewall in Jonathan Quick,and a great masterful defensive game plan stopped the Red Wings,tonight... a hat tip to the Kings,who have won eight straight games... note to the Western Conference,and to the rest of the NHL:watch out for the defending Stanley Cup Champions... they will be tough to beat...
commentary...
three goals,in 3:12 of the third period,by the Anaheim Ducks,almost spoiled Pavel Datsyuk's two goal night,and to tell you the absolute truth,the Red Wings got a much needed point on a night that the ice(playing surface)was choppy,and the puck was bouncing around like a rubber ball...the Red Wings' team defense around Jimmy Howard was supreme for the first forty nine minutes,and then the puck went a-bouncing around Jimmy Howard,and two of the three goals should have been stopped by Jimmy Howard,as the puck could not settle down,in front of Howard,and were literally slapped by Howard,or through his pads... in overtime,Datsyuk hit the crossbar on his shootout attempt,and then the shootout went as predicted,with the Red Wings,losing 2-1,in shootout(3-9,this season,UGH)...

Dallas Stars' head coach Lindy Ruff blasted the referees last night... who really cares??? note to Lindy:if your team would have played sixty minutes,not fifty two,your team would have won game going away,but the Red Wings did not quit playing until the final buzzer... they did give up six goals in a game for the first time,this season,but Lindy,they scored seven goals to beat your team... i have watched enough of your games,this season,and your team does not go full bore throughout the game... so enjoy the golfing this offseason,you deserve it...

the Red Wings,right now,as i type this,have an eleven point lead on the Boston Bruins,and even the Pittsburgh Penguins have a ten point lead on the Bruins,for seventh place,in the Eastern Conference(the Bruins have an one point lead on the Florida Panthers)... with twenty five games to go,in the 2014-2015 NHL season,the Red Wings would have to totally collapse to miss the Stanley Cup playoffs... still possible,but unlikely... the Red Wings have made the Stanley Cup playoffs twenty three straight years,longest streak in professional sports,which is really amazing,because this year's team is the best Red Wings' team,since Red Wings' legend,and great,Nicklas Lidstrom retired,in 2011...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 7,Stars 6,overtime... simply the craziest game of the Red Wings' season... down 4-2,at the start of the third period,Jakub Kindl scored twice in a minute to tie game at four,then the Stars appeared to ice game,with eight minutes left,with two quick goals,then Justin Abdelkader,and Pavel Datsyuk(his second of the night)scored goals to tie game,at six,to force overtime... however,that was not the big news:Abdelkader shoved slightly Stars' goaltender Kari Lehtonin shortly before Datsyuk's goal,but referee Paul Devorski and company did not call the Red Wings for goaltender interference on the goal,so when play ended in regulation,there was a brawl at the buzzer... still upset,the Stars forgot to play team defense,as Niklas Kronwall basically waltzed in,and lofted a nice backhand over Lehtonin,36 seconds into overtime,for the game winning goal(GWG)... my opinion:to tell you the absolute truth.i really smiled at the Stars' misfortune,because simply the Stars are known to be whiners,and i care not a whit... the Red Wings have suffered heartbreaking losses,in Dallas,in the past... example:Mike Leggo's call of a shootout goal from 30+ feet away,when the referee next to the Red Wings' goaltender called it no goal... i still remember that,folks... so,Dallas absolutely get no sympathy from me,folks...

Canadiens 2,Red Wings 0... one mistake cost the Red Wings:a lost skate edge by Pavel Datsyuk led to a bad turnover,and a great pass by Montreal,with 2:30 left,broke up a scoreless game,along with an empty net goal gave the 2-0 victory to the Canadiens... both goaltenders (Carey Price,and Jimmy Howard)were rock solid...

NHL news...
the NHL trading deadline is March 2nd... trades have to be official by that day... any team who needs help will trade for players who will play for that team(rent a players) for the rest of the NHL season...

Jets 5,Red Wings 4,shootout... Jimmy Howard looked very rusty,but after thirty five days of not playing hockey,because of a partially torn groin muscle,you would expect that... it was the night of the strange goal for both teams... watching this game you would not expect goals to go into the net in the way that they went in tonight... Pavel Datsyuk scored twice,and had a three point night,for the Red Wings... Red Wings had two power play goals,for their NHL leading 50 goals on the power play... Winnipeg scored on their very first shot,with a tipped goal that simply sneaked through Howard's pads,and then the Jets scored another goal that went off Howard's wrist just above his glove,and ricocheted at an angle(basically northeast),and rolled into the net... the only shootout goal for Winnipeg was by Drew Stafford,and shot off the right goalpost,over Howard's left pad... simply a wild game!!! the Red Wings got a much needed point,which is very important...

i normally put the visiting team first,but on the previous post,i honestly thought that the Jets are playing the Red Wings,in Winnipeg... oops,the game is in Detroit,at Joe Louis Arena,as part of CBC's Hockey Day in Canada,in which all seven Canadian teams play,six of them play each other,so this year,Winnipeg is odd team out,but they play the Red Wings,tonight... no walk in the rose garden,for the Jets...

Penguins 4,Red Wings 1... for a team in the midst of a playoff run,this game was an big steaming pile of manure... Penguins scored four straight goals(two apiece in both the first and second period),as the Red Wings looked like a team,who had a golf date,in the morning... the Red Wings' team defense around the net was non-existent,period... simply said,one of the ugliest games this season... grab me a vomit bag,folks...

Red Wings play tomorrow,against the Pittsburgh Penguins... ten of the next twelve games,are against teams,that if the season ends today,would be in the Stanley Cup playoffs,and amazingly,that list does not includes the current defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings,who are struggling to get points this season,but honestly playing the Kings is not a walk in the park,especially in Los Angeles... Jimmy Howard should back shortly,against the Winnipeg Jets,Saturday(crossing fingers)... so,buckle up,Red Wings' fans... a bumpy ride is in store... we will find out if the Red Wings are a contender,or a pretender??? i am leaning towards them being a contender,but this horrible stretch of games will tell...

commentary...
last night's game,against the Arizona Coyotes,was all about the goaltender for the Red Wings... Petr Mrazek is the heir apparent to Jimmy Howard,it appears... he has given up two goals in last three games,including a 3-0 shutout(with two empty net goals,so it is more impressive,as you look at it)... impressive stats for the third string goaltender pressed into the net,when Howard went down with a slight groin tear,earlier in the season... the Red Wings are not locked into a playoff spot(no one is),but they have won nine of their last ten games,with Mrazek,in net,for most the games,in that streak... Howard should be back sometime in the next two weeks,but this blogpost is about Mrazek,and his superior play,in the clutch... to him,i give a grateful hat tip...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 3,Avalanche 0... Red Wings scored two empty net goals,as Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy pulled goaltender,with just over three minutes to play,and down only 1-0... what a REAL STUPID move,Patrick!!! he tried to imitate the rough and tough Avalanche of the mid-1990's,and early 2000's,by instigating brawls and tough play,with the Red Wings early in the game,but honestly these teams are not the same,as two Stanley Cup championship contenders,back in that time of their collective team histories... back in Roy's great career,the one way to beat him,was to get under his skin,make him mad,rattle his game,and the Red Wings always seemed to get Roy off his game,in critical times... i guess the Red Wings got him mad again,because he pulled the goaltender way too early,and he got bit by the Red Wings... way to go,Patrick... nice way to lose a game...
