commentary...

Red Wings scored seven straight goals,in between the four goals, scored by the Los Angeles Kings... game score was,at one time,7-1... Kings scored last three goals,in last 7:34,and last two goals were 44 seconds apart,in last 1:05,but Red Wings had chased Jonathan Quick,in third period, lighting him up with six goals, and putting a nail in his coffin,at least, for tonight... he shut the Red Wings out,5-0,December 13,2010,so i am happy to see him get pounded by the Red Wings, because i did give him his props that day,but he stunk up the place,tonight... the Los Angeles Kings are a very good team, but honestly, they were not the best team,tonight... Red Wings just beat them badly, tonight, score notwithstanding, but honestly, the Kings did not give up on the game, but the Red Wings put it on Quick, who stunk up the place, with six,of the seven goals scored tonight... Drew Miller(brother of Buffalo Sabres' goaltender,Ryan Miller)scored two goals, along with Nicklas Lidstrom,Pavel Datysuk,Danny Cleary,Jiri Hudler, and Darren Helm, who scored a very beautiful short-handed goal, that broke game open, early in third period,to make game,5-1... i do not like the Los Angeles Kings, ever since they beat the Red Wings,in the playoffs,in,i believe,2003,in a shocking finish... i honestly can not see that playoff series, without a few beers,or prescription drugs, because it sickens me still, and you know that i do not drink... (had to make you laugh)....

game score,and commentary...

Red Wings 3,Sabres 2,shootout win... simply put,Jiri Hudler tied it,with 58 seconds left,in third period, then had the shootout insurance goal(Red Wings won shootout,2-0)... twelve point lead,in Central Division, over both Chicago, and Nashville(Nashville lost,3-2 to Dallas, today, and both Blackhawks, and Predators, play tomorrow)... the Red Wings did not play best game tonight, but a win is a win,and in third period, they refused to simply lose,out-shooting Sabres,in last two periods,28-14,and shutting them out,2-0,in last two periods, and overtime/shootout,too... Ryan Miller(Sabres' goaltender)did not get any offensive help,in last two periods, along with no defensive help,in third period,as Red Wings climbed back from a 2-0 deficit, after one period... he deserved better,as he stood on his head in Buffalo's goal, making some stupendous saves,in last two periods, but honestly, got hung out to dry,by the Sabres' lack of offense,in last two periods, and in overtime... Hudler scored his first NHL goal, against Miller, years ago,and he was the difference,as he came off the bench,as sixth skater,as Mike Babcock pulled Joey MacDonald,to try to tie up game,in final minute of game... Hudler went towards the net,in a sprint, found puck,in scrum, and put a rocket past Miller,to tie game at 2,and to send game, into overtime... what a game!!!!!!!!

commentary,and analysis...

i am not saying that the Red Wings had a chance to win,and the Stars did not deserve to win,but that the score did not indicate how fiesty, and rowdy, that the game was, because both teams clearly do not like each other, and bad blood was apparent throughout the game, but Dallas did get every critical bounce, and call in game, that turned game from a tight checking game, into what looked like a dominating game,by the Stars,score-wise,but was a closer game than the score indicated, and it was a very good effort, better than the game, with San Jose, and next game, they should have Mike Modano, and Valtteri Filppula, back from injury... bounces, and calls, went Dallas' way tonight, and sometimes, that is the way the game plays out....

game score,and commentary...

Stars 4,Red Wings 1... honestly, score does not indicate how well Red Wings played,overall... out-shooting Dallas,39-25,and having a goal disallowed, early in second period,to seemingly to pull within,2-1,by Brian Ralfalski(on a legitimate goaltender interference bump,on Tomas Holmstrom, just before puck went in net),Red Wings then shortly gave up third goal on a scrum, between players,in front of Howard, after two Red Wings collided with each other,at blue line, and Krys Barch(Stars' player)lifted it over Howard's shoulder,as players collided,in front of Howard, and blinded his vision... the game winning goal(a short-handed goal, just before first period ended)was actually stopped by Howard, but as Howard slid toward net,and left goal post, the puck trickled over goal line... every bounce went Dallas' way tonight, and simply the way Kari Lehtonin(for the Stars)was playing in goal, and the way that the Stars were playing defense around net(actually rather nasty, and chippy),Detroit had very few chances to really score, and any breakaway chance was simply stopped, including one on Zetterberg, that could have made game very interesting,at the end of game... Dallas got an empty-net goal when Red Wings could not control puck,in the Dallas Stars' zone, and an another bad bounce ended the game,in the back in the Detroit goal... just one of those strange games, where the score does not indicate how well the Wings played, but i must give Lehtonin credit for being rock steady, tonight, and Dallas,in getting every critical bounce of puck,in game... the game was a rather nasty affair, because both teams simply do not like each other, and there was a major scrum, including Howard(who got a roughing penalty),and a separate fight, between the teams,in the third period... Wings still have a ten point lead, over both Nashville, and Chicago,in Central Division...

Griffiths',and Toledo Walleye(ECHL)news...

Grand Rapids Griffiths,of the American Hockey League, are 25-24-1-8,in the North Division,of the Western Conference, sixth place, but only six points, behind Toronto Marlies, who has the final playoff spot(fourth place),but there is a three way tie for first, between the Hamilton Bulldogs,Manitoba Moose, and Lake Erie Monsters... Hamilton leads by goal differential, only seven points up on Grand Rapids... the Toledo Walleye,of the East Coast Hockey League, are 24-23-3-1,eighth in Eastern Conference, one point behind the Cincinnati Cyclones... they both are improving, and it should be interesting to find out if both make their league's playoffs...

commentary,and analysis...

simply put,Sharks outplayed Red Wings, most of the game, and never trailed in game, tied twice, but simply outplayed Red Wings... Devin Setoguchi had two goals, along with Ryan Clowe, and Joe Thornton, who had his 300th NHL goal, last night,to open up scoring, for the Sharks... Red Wings played rather soft around the net, hanging Howard out to dry on the two late goals,in both the first period, and second period,to give Sharks momentum into both the second, and third period... the game winning goal was simply a rocket up high on Howard, and was past him, basically before he could react, and i blame the Red Wings' defense, which was rather pathetic... it ruined a two goal night, for Danny Cleary, and a late power play goal,by Henrik Zetterberg... this is not the playoffs,so i am not so worried, since Red Wings had come into game on a five game winning streak... no team is going to win every game, but honestly,Sharks needed this game worse than the Red Wings, because you take a look at the Pacific Division, and all five teams, from first to last, have a chance to win the division, and Red Wings have, right now,a ten point lead,on Nashville, and a twelve point lead on the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, and have won six more games than both of them(37 wins,to 31 wins, for Nashville, and Chicago, which,i believe is the first tiebreaker, for playoff seeding)... actually it is the second tiebreaker, minus games, won by shootout;first tiebreaker is number of games played,(superior points percentage,is what they call it)... right now,Chicago, and Nashville, are in deep trouble, just to make playoffs, because they are fighting a number of teams for playoff seeding, and even though the Sharks won last night, they are still in that scrum of teams, looking to make the playoffs, like the Red Wings were scrapping for the playoffs last year... i expect all three teams(Sharks,Blackhawks and/or Predators),to make playoffs this year, but that is why they play the games....

Red Wings' game score, and analysis of game...

Red Wings 2,Wild 1,shootout... in his 1,000th game,Todd Bertuzzi had shootout insurance goal;Red Wings won shootout,2-0... how ironic, and sweet... both goaltenders deserve to win, especially Niklas Backstrom,of the Wild, who had three great stops in overtime, but Red Wings solved him in shootout, and Jimmy Howard, was a real stud, throughout game...

Red Wings' schedule,and a comment...

Detroit/Minnesota tomorrow,on NBC,then San Jose,Tuesday... simply put,Sharks are 11-2-1,in last 14 games,so they are not the same team, the Red Wings beat,5-3,on November 30th,2010... remember that game? enjoyed that game, just being with you that day...

Friday, February 18, 2011

commentary,and analysis...

Todd Bertuzzi scored his sixth goal,in the the last four games(another two goal game),and Pavel Datsyuk scored his ninth point, since return from broken wrist(he still can not take face-offs),so his game is not 100%,yet... Brad Stuart is back(his second game back),and Mike Modano is expected back the first week of March, and Chris Osgood said last night, during the game with the Lightning, that he is about three weeks away from playing, after a sports hernia sidelined him,for two months,so the Red Wings are getting dangerous, and healthy... i respect every team in the NHL,and will respect every team,in the playoffs, but no one wants to play Red Wings,in playoffs... i do not fear any team, but defense normally wins championships,in the playoffs... i respect every team, and whoever has the hot goaltender,in the playoffs, and defense around him, normally wins, but bounces do occur at odd times(Example:Los Angeles beating Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers,in a five game series,in,i believe, the early 80's,which is called the biggest upset,in Stanley Cup playoff history),so i would never say out loud that Red Wings would win Stanley Cup,because it is the toughest championship to win in professional sports... the last team to repeat was the 1997-1998 Detroit Red Wings, and by the way,the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, are, right now, fourteen points, behind the Red Wings, and six points behind Nashville,in third place in Central Division, and lost to Columbus,4-3,tonight,so they are mired out of the playoffs, right now... Remember the 2006 Tampa Bay Lightning?(last defending Stanley Cup champion, not to make playoffs, the year that they defended the Stanley Cup,but to be honest, the 2005 NHL strike took that team away, via free agency, and simply, they got screwed, but the Blackhawks have to catch Nashville,to make playoffs, and they should, but time, and games are getting short to make a serious run,at the playoffs, and if they do make playoffs, they will be tough to beat,as defending champions, but honestly, they have had a very strange year, but they will be still very dangerous,if they make the playoffs, and honestly,i believe that they should make playoffs, but with their coach ailing, somewhat, they have strike one on them, but they are up at bat,so anything is possible...

Red Wings' game score...

Red Wings 4,Panthers 3... fourth win in a row... analysis tomorrow...

Red Wings' news...

Detroit/Florida,tonight... analysis tonight....

commentary...

Pavel Datsyuk scored two goals, and Henrik Zetterberg had two assists,as Red Wings dominate Lightning,6-2... they stopped Steven Stamkos, from scoring goals(NHL's leading goal scorer),even he had one assist... Tampa Bay did score 2:47 apart,in second period,to tie game,at 2,but it seemed like they were nervous, and turned over puck time over time in first two periods,as Detroit basically shut down Tampa's high-scoring offense, and played very good defense,on Stamkos,Martin St. Louis, and Vincent LeCavalier(their top stars),and pounded Dwayne Roloson, with six goals... Roloson was traded to Tampa Bay,the day after he was in goal, against Red Wings, for the New York Islanders, and he beat Red Wings,in overtime,on New Year's Day,because he impressed Steve Yzerman(Tampa Bay's general manager)... Red Wings are 24-5-2,in the last 31 games, and the last time they beat Red Wings, was in 2003(winning seven of the last eight games, against the Lightning)... Red Wings scored four unanswered goals,in last twenty-three minutes, basically dominating the last three minutes,of second period, scoring two goals in 1:26,late in second period, then pounded Tampa Bay,and Roloson, with two more goals,in third period, and playing very good defense, throughout the third period... Jimmy Howard played very good in net,but Red Wings' defense was very good,in front of him,and they killed off six minutes,of two penalties,in first period, basically within seconds(a minor penalty, and then a double minor high-sticking penalty),so the Red Wings are playing very well, and finally getting healthy,as a team, and i truly pity any team that they face in the playoffs, because they will be very dangerous to play, but to tell you the truth, they have a very tough schedule to end the season... they are not going into playoffs,as a team, very tired, and finally,healthy... WATCH OUT NHL!!!!!!!! the playoffs are a basic crap shoot, but i like their chances...

Forsberg was a member,of the hated Avalanche, during the 1990's,and the early 2000's,when the rivalry between Red Wings, and Avalanche was the most heated... i hated the Avalanche, because they beat the Red Wings many times, when they were the top two teams in the NHL,winning Stanley Cups,in 1996,and 2001... i admired Forsberg while despising Avalanche, because he played his heart out for his team, and for the game of hockey, because he was a great player, and a certain Hall of Fame member,in three years, which is the waiting period, for induction in the Hockey Hall of Fame... thank you for a great career...

commentary,and analysis...

after Boston scored only 1:29,into first period, and leading,2-1(on a ole' play,by Ruslan Salei,by just waving stick at puck, and not skating, into Bruins' player, allowing him to put puck past Jimmy Howard),after one period... Red Wings dominated game for the last two periods... Howard played very good in goal, and the Red Wings' defense refused to allow Bruins any good shots in front of Howard, the last two periods... Todd Bertuzzi must love Boston, because he scored two more goals(and four goals, against Boston)... Pavel Datsyuk scored again,(second goal,in three games),and Kris Draper is heating up,with a goal too... Red Wings lighted up Tuukka Rask, and Tim Thomas, for ten goals,in last two games(Thomas gave up five goals,in four periods, after relieving Rask, for third period,on Friday),and Thomas led NHL,in goals against average(1.91),and save percentage(.941)going into weekend, but Red Wings put it to Thomas, and to the Bruins... Jimmy Howard have given up only five goals,in last three games, and Red Wings have tightened up their defense, recently, and they are getting healthy,finally... they have people coming back(Brad Stuart, and Mike Modano;Stuart by end of month, and Modano, about a week,or so,after that)... the only team that impressed me more than Red Wings, right now,is Vancouver,in Western Conference,so i pity the NHL,going into the homestretch, and run for the playoffs... Nashville is up and down, right now, losing to Edmonton,4-0,at home, recently,is enough proof to say that, and Chicago(defending Stanley Cup Champions)is in the mud of the season, playing like an inconsistent team, all year, and in third place in Central Division, behind Detroit and Nashville, who is seven points, behind Detroit, right now(74 points,to 67 points, and Detroit has 34 wins,to Nashville's 30 wins)... Detroit has 17 wins, both on the road, and at home, perfect balance...

Red Wings roast Bruins.6-1....

Red Wings 6,Bruins 1... Todd Bertuzzi scored two goals... Henrik Zetterberg had a three point night(a goal, and two assists--first goal,in twelve games),and Tomas Holmstrom scored goal,in second game, since returning from broken hand, and Jimmy Howard gave up one goal,in 26 shots, but, honestly, the Bruins never showed up to play hockey-a very weak effort, without a doubt... Red Wings scored two power play goals, and only their fifth,in last forty power plays, over,i believe, the last twelve games,(12.5%)... one the best defensive games of the season... biggest winning margin of season... Mike Babcock must have roasted the team, over an open pit, because they came out,in first 3:10,of first period, scored twice, and did not let off gas petal, until Boston was down,5-1,after two periods, and Tuukka Rask was raw bear meat,in goal, and Tim Thomas came into game as backup... Thomas will play Sunday,in goal... it should be interesting to watch game on Sunday,on NBC... i am very happy that they scored on Thomas,in third period, because they now know that they can score on Thomas.... Tim Thomas is having a Vezina Trophy-type year, with a goals against average,of 1.91/per game(leads NHL),and is tied for second,in wins, behind Jimmy Howard, with 26 wins... Howard has 27 wins, including tonight...

good news:Datsyuk,Holmstrom back,bad news:Red Wings get thumped,4-1,by Nashville

good news:Ruslan Salei became last Red Wings' regular to score goal, this season... bad news:Red Wings hang Jimmy Howard out to dry,by playing shoddy defense, around net... good news:Red Wings still have five point lead on Nashville... bad news:Nashville has won three of four games, against Detroit(have two more,in Nashville)... good news:Red Wings are 5-5,in last ten games, and Nashville have only two of last seven games that they have played(2-4-1,both wins, against Detroit)... bad news:Valtteri Filppula, has sprained MCL,in knee... fact:in 2007-2008,the last time that Detroit won Stanley Cup,the Red Wings played Chicago, eight times, that season, and Blackhawks won five of those games, but Red Wings won President's Trophy, and Stanley Cup,that year, but could not beat Blackhawks that year,so Red Wings have at least one team they have a very hard time beating that team... this year,it seems to be Nashville, but recently Nashville, and Chicago, can not seem to beat many teams... last game,Nashville got stomped,by Edmonton,4-0,and Detroit beat New York Rangers,3-2,to even the last two games out, because Nashville was five points, behind Detroit,on Monday morning,so nothing has changed in standings, but Red Wings have struggled,as of late, but every team in Central Division have sucked,in last ten games, which means that Detroit has been static, along with everybody else,in Central Division, but having Pavel Datsyuk, and Tomas Holmstrom, helps mostly with attitude, and Red Wings just need time to have both back in starting lineup,Datsyuk, missing nineteen games, and Holmstrom, missing nine games,so it will take about three games to get back on track... it has been frustrating to watch Red Wings' games, recently, almost gagging on my eyes, and stomach, but at least,it should be better soon, because Detroit is getting healthy at the right time, and that is good news....

Red Wings' news...

Predators/Red Wings,tonight:analysis,tomorrow morning,but game score,after game...

commentary,and injury update...

Pavel Datsyuk scored goal,in return from broken wrist, and he did not take a face-off,which means he is not 100% healthy, yet, but he will work on strength, for wrist... he is Red Wings' best face-off man... Jimmy Howard did an adequate job in goal, giving up only two goals,in 47 shots, against the Rangers, keeping Red Wings in game, when they came out very slow,in first period... the reason that i say only "adequate",is that Howard is not having a good year,in goals against average,or goal percentage, like last year, but having Chris Osgood out with a sports hernia, until probably late March(conditioning included),Howard is not really too bad,but not like last year, but it will get better, going on in the season, after Osggod gets back from surgery, and having both for playoffs,is a very big plus, and i do honestly pity the NHL,going into the playoffs, because the Red Wings should be mostly healthy,at that time... i have been grumbling about the Red Wings lately, but i look at the nineteen games, without Datsyuk, the Red Wings were 10-7-2,not bad for for a team, without major stars, for a quarter of a season... Tomas Holmstrom should be back next game,at last account, but with basically the same injury,as Datsyuk,i suspect his hands have to be stronger, because he stands in front of a goaltender, and tip up to 100 mph shots, past goaltender, into the net,so Holmstrom's progress has been slower, but "Homer" will be back shortly, perhaps tomorrow night, against Nashville at home,in Detroit, but he will be back shortly...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...

Predators 3, Red Wings 0... Red Wings actually played very well,on defense, but honestly, they faced one of the better goalies, and defensive teams,in NHL,in Nashville... Shea Weber blew a rocket past Joey MacDonald, for game-winning goal,in first period, but Sergei Kostitsyn had two goals, one was an one handed scoop shot, that was a real highlight shot, and the other was deflected off the rear-end,of MacDonald,in final minutes, one of only six shots, that Nashville had,in third period... Detroit rang two pucks, off goalposts in first period, and were buzzing around Pekka Rinne,in third period, but had no luck scoring tonight... that is real hockey... Weber's goal was on power play, and Kostitsyn's highlight goal was,at the very end of a Detroit power play,a short-handed goal... good game, bad luck!!!!!!!!!!

Red Wings' news...

Detroit/Nashville,tonight...

out of sync Red Wings lose,3-0,to Blue Jackets....

Blue Jackets 3,Red Wings 0... only second time that Red Wings have been shut down all year... they seemed out of sync all game, and offense was scattered, and had bad bounces, and could not settle down the puck on offense, but Detroit did not put enough pressure on Steve Mason(Blue Jackets' goaltender)... Pavel Datsyuk did not play tonight, because his strength in his hand was not up to his,or the Red Wings',liking... the fact was that Detroit looked a bit out of sync,on offense, and they did have their chances to score, but it seemed that the puck went off the post, jumped over the stick, was blocked by Blue Jackets' players,or stonewalled by the goaltender, who very rarely had people in front of him,to block his vision... when a goaltender has no one in front to block vision, then it is an easy game to play... on to Nashville,tomorrow...

commentary...

there was a controversial "no goal" call,in the Red Wings' game, with Ottawa... down 6-5,Ottawa apparently scored on a mad scramble,to tie game,at 6,when goal went in net past Jimmy Howard, but it was called dead puck, because of Rule 78,section 5,subsection 12,the dreaded "intent to blow whistle" rule... the fact was that Ottawa got simply hosed on the call, because the simple fact that Howard never had the puck,in his physical possession, until after the puck was in net,or at least,he was juggling the puck, and he did get pushed into net, when an Ottawa player fell onto Howard's pads, but i contend that he never had possession of the puck,so goal should have counted... are you amazed that i think that a Red Wings' opponent got hosed,by the referees?... i am a true hockey fan,as you know...

Red Wings' news...

Blue Jackets/Red Wings,in Detroit,tonight,then Predators tomorrow,in Nashville...

Thursday, February 3, 2011

side note...

the last Red Wings' player, before Johan Franzen last night,to score five goals,in a NHL game, was Sergei Fedorov,on December 26,1996,against the Washington Capitals...

commentary,and analysis...

this was a very weird game:eight of first ten goals,by both teams, were scored within minutes, even seconds,of each other... in fact,it was a ping pong game on ice... for example,Detroit scored their first goals, within 48 seconds,to lead,2-1,but Ottawa tied game,at 2 all,one minute later... Ottawa then scored 2:32 later,to lead,3-2,after one period... midway through second period,Detroit scored two goals,to lead,4-3,within 13 seconds, but then Ottawa scored 28 seconds later,to tie game,at 4 all, going into third period... within first minute of third period, both teams scored,to knot game,at 5... the rest of the game, was Detroit defense, and the heroics of Johan Franzen, who scored the last two goals, for Detroit, and scored five goals,in game... he was first player,in NHL,to score five goals, since Marian Gaborik,of the Minnesota Wild,on December 20,2007(Gaborik now plays for the New York Rangers),and the first Red Wings' player,to do it,since Sergei Fedorov did it,in last week,of 1996,against the Washington Capitals....

Franzen scores five goals, and Red Wings win, game score...

Red Wings 7,Senators 5... Johan Franzen scored five goals(not a misprint--five goals)... analysis,tomorrow morning... a wild shootout,in Ottawa...

side note...

St. Louis/Colorado,postponed last night,like i said,about a hour ago,has been rescheduled for February 22nd,NHL announced,just minutes ago...

side note...

the postponed St. Louis Blues/Colorado Avalanche game will be played soon, due to severe weather,in St.Louis, last night... looking at both teams' schedule,it could be somewhere around February 22nd,my estimate,of a date, for the game... the Blues are playing Chicago, the night before,in St. Louis, and Avalanche are playing Edmonton,in Denver,on the 23rd... if they were playing,in Edmonton,on the 23rd,it would be later on in season, but honestly,if i was the NHL,that is where i would slot in the game, without having either team play three days in a row,and Denver to St. Louis,is a very short charter, but i am not Gary Bettman(NHL commissioner)...

injury update...

Pavel Datsyuk(broken hand),Tomas Holmstrom(broken hand),and Danny Cleary(fractured ankle),will be back in lineup,by Saturday, against Nashville... Cleary will be in lineup tonight, against Ottawa... Datsyuk will be in lineup, against Columbus, and Holmstrom will be in lineup, against Nashville... Brad Stuart(broken jaw)should be be back by end of month, along with Mike Modano(lacerated tendon),shortly after Stuart... i pity the NHL...
