blog statement...

on this last day of 2012,let us hope that 2013 will much better for everyone, and my New Year's resolution is to be healthy, and hope everyone has enjoyed this blog,in 2012,and there will be more, coming in 2013

NHL collective bargaining agreement(CBA) proposal...

the NHL proposal to the NHLPA is contingent on starting the 2013 NHL season on January 19th,2013,and is for a ten year collective bargaining agreement(CBA),with a mutual option to opt-out,after eight years... even though, the NHL has not moved too much on length of CBA,they have moved on three key areas:contract length, for players, compliance buyouts, and average salary variance, with an option of an one time compliance buyout for the clubs, before the 2013-2014 NHL season... that last option would not count against the club initiating the buyout, but a portion would count(factor into the formula,of determining)against the amount of the hockey related revenue(H.R.R)... the length of players' contracts would be capped at six years(seven if team signed its own free agent)... the variance of the average salary(top player,to bottom player),would now be at 10%,instead of the original 5%... the NHL is proposing to preserve free agency,entry-level contract system,H.R.R. accounting, and definitions, and salary arbitration,intact...

NHL news...

NHL/NHLPA will resume collective bargaining agreement(CBA)talks,today... by the way,i forgot to note the NHL proposal,to the NHLPA,and will detail it,today,instead...

fans' discontent,and anger...

i have read many fans' comments about the NHL lockout,in New Jersey,Boston,Anaheim, and Minnesota, along with Canadian fans, and the vast majority of those fans are very very pissed at this circus... some are irritated, some are mad, some are upset, and some are simply unmentionable in their comments, telling both sides to put it,"where the sun does not shine"(that is being kind)... some fans will not buy anything, see hockey,or buy anything at the arenas, when the NHL comes back... they remember seven years ago,and the last NHL lockout, and they have had it,because they feel royally screwed over by both the NHL,and the NHLPA... one fan mentioned being screwed over in 1994,when MLB,and MLBPA shut down the season, and cancelled that year's World Series, and his lack of interest in baseball since, and he also mentioned the one common link, between that lockout, and this year's lockout-Donald Fehr, who is,in my opinion,a real piece of work, and an egomaniac... sorry, folks, but that is how i feel, and to tell you the truth,i had to clean up my words,to even say that... my opinion goes way back to 1994,when i was a Montreal Expos' fan,and they had the best record in baseball, and directly because of lockout/cancellation,of the 1994 season/World Series(it hastened the departure),and the really bad stadium situation,in Montreal, the team moved to Washington D.C.... i,in no way, absolve the owners in this circus/debacle,because it is a two way street, because there are some owners, who are as hardline, and hardnose,as Fehr,in their opinions that the NHL is losing money, overall, and some small market teams are losing money... i believe that to be true, but the lockout is helping no one,and the negotiation teams do not care about the fans at all... like one fan said,"they're losing the hardcore fan,now"... what a real shame!!!!!!!!

sad news, and moronic stupidity,in New York...

NHL filed two motions, today:one in Federal Court, and one with the National Labor Relations Board, one being a Class Action Complaint,in Federal Court, and one being an Unfair Labor Practice Charge, with the NLRB... the Class Action Complaint deals with a declaration that deals the legality of the NHL lockout, and the Unfair Labor Practice Charge deals with the charge that the NHLPA is trying to decertify, and by claiming,"disclaim interest",which is,the NHL claims,is an unlawful subversion of the collective bargaining process, and conduct that constitutes bad faith bargaining, under the National Labor Relations Act...

a fan's discontent...

simply said, the NHL/NHLPA lockout, and negotiations sucks, and the fact that the fans of the NHL,and of the beautiful game of hockey, have been screwed by the "millionaires fighting the millionaires/billionaires(in case of the Toronto Maple Leafs, being worth $1B,overall)",over money, really stinks like a dead fish, because the fans who have helped give the NHL record revenues over the past seven years, and the fans get a royal slap in their collective faces,by people, who say that they care for the fans, and the lockout going on ninety days, with no letup in sight, they keep on proving that they are all-in for the almighty dollar, and they could really care less about the real, and true fans, and nothing else,period... to the NHL/NHLPA,do not lie about caring about the fans, because if you were very serious about this circus ending soon, you would have started negotiations before the end of last season, not in late July/early August, and then take days off between negotiations, and dragging your corporate feet in concrete, and not have a game plan to solve this circus, before the fans' real anger simmered, and boiled over... "a pox on both of your houses",period...

NHL historical trivia...

on December 8,1987,Ron Hextall became the first goaltender to shoot the puck, into the opposing net for a goal, against the Boston Bruins, with 1:12 left,in the third period,to put the Flyers up 5-2,in a 5-2 Flyers' win... he also scored a short handed goal, against the Washington Capitals,in the 1988-1989 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs,in a 8-5 Flyers' win,on April 11,1989... he and Martin Brodeur,of the New Jersey Devils, are the only goaltenders to have two goals,in their NHL careers... Brodeur scored his two goals this way:against the Montreal Canadiens,in the 1996-1997 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs,in a 5-2 Devils' win,on April 17,1997,and he was credited with game winning goal(last Devil to touch puck, before going into opposing goal),in a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers,on February 15,2000...

LOCKOUT:DAY EIGHTY THREE...

commentary...

this NHL season may be toast, when the NHLPA's proposal infuriated some owners, when the union made new demands... i truly blame "the gloryhog" Donald Fehr,or his brother Steven, more than i blame NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, because Fehr has killed more than one season(1994 MLB season, and World Series),in his resume, and i truly find him rather disgusting,as a negotiator, because he does not want labor peace,no matter what sport he has represented... that is the way that he does business, and the players thought he would help the process, but he has done nothing, but make the process look like war,and he does not care a flying whit, about anything, anyone, but his massive ego... i love the game of hockey, with a passion that is hard to explain, but this stupid, idiotic, moronic, and sad circus makes me want to vomit, because it will be difficult to ever get the passion back to pre-lockout levels, because i went through this circus in 2004-2005,and that was terrible, but this circus, again,is horrendous, because NO ONE seems to care about the true fans of the game, and they pose, and talk about nothing that makes sense, and they piss off their hardcore fan base that finances their game, with tickets, concessions, merchandise, and their lust for the game, which hockey is the best sport in professional sports, when played at the very top level of excellence that that NHL hockey is,period... when this ends,i would love to be at the very first game played, and see the size, and reaction,of the crowd,at the game, because the fans are very pissed... however,if i wrote this post,in the anger that i have inside my soul, there would not be a word that i can print, because i am very, very pissed at this circus, and both negotiation teams, because they simply do not care about the true fans, because a five year union proposal,on the length of the new collective bargaining agreement, was a non-starter,three months ago,and that has not changed one iota, and the 50/50 split in hockey related revenue proposal,by the owners may also be a non-starter,because the players want a "make whole" provision,to make up for the lost revenue,so nothing has changed much,at all... so expect the 2012-2013 NHL season to be toast, and that is stomach pumping,period...

commentary...

my brother, who is not a hockey fan, even asked me about the NHL lockout, last night, and i was confused on what to say, because there has been a marathon collective bargaining agreement(CBA)negotiation session, between NHL players, and owners, but there are conflicting reports on how well it is going... according to a report, everything that the owners proposed is off the table, but take that with a grain of salt... the report comes from the NHLPA,and yet, there are other reports that there were "much progress",in those talks, over the last three days, but again, the executive director of the NHLPA(Donald Fehr)or the NHL Commissioner(Gary Bettman)were not in the meeting, either,so i just feel there is more spin, than progress, and time is clicking away on the remainder of the season(if there is one),and people are still posing on both sides, for their own agendas,to make the other side look like morons... this is not to end pretty, because there have been morons on both sides, and even though there will be a collective bargaining agreement(CBA) in the future, there will be very pissed off fans, who may go to games, but not too many,or buy merchandise, from the NHL,or get Center Ice(their NHL hockey package),when lockout is over... as for me,i will not get the Center Ice package,if there is a season, but that is for now,i have to admit, because i am very pissed off, period, and my anger is not going to subside any time soon, and i guarantee that,folks...

opinions of mine...

on November 9th,the NHL made an offer that made a 50/50 split, with all contracts paid in full, which is what the players want, among other things, but NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr did not mention that latter part of the email,to the players,in a separate email, later on in the day... both emails made it to NBC,and TSN,both broadcasting partners of the NHL... the NHL has said, for months, that Fehr does not have the best interests of the players,in mind, and knowing what i know about Fehr(going back to 1994 MLB's cancellation of that year's World Series),i have a big hunch that Fehr is playing games, with both the NHLPA,and the NHL,and simply glorifying himself... what a real piece of work, and a real scumbag that he is...

clowns play on...

NHL offered a meeting,on Thursday night/Friday morning, only for the players,to discuss the situation, between the NHL/NHLPA,and the lockout... at least one owner,James Dolan,Chairman of Madison Square Garden, and of the Rangers, and the NBA's Knicks, wants to help in the meeting... Dolan helped end the NBA lockout last year... the NHLPA,after 48 hours, still has not decided whether or not to have the meeting...

commentary...

i may not be a fan of the Washington Capitals, but i admire the opinion of Roman Hamrlik, who may stand with the players in terms of the NHL lockout, but his opinion to force a vote,by the players,on a deal that may,or may not,be on the table... he is a 20 year veteran, and has been through several strikes, and lockouts, and some of the players may not be happy with his opinion, but he has some of the frustrations of the fans, which no one honestly cares about,period... to the vast majority of players, owners,NHL,and NHLPA,the fans of the beautiful game of hockey are very pissed, and no one really cares about the fans... they may tell you that they are doing it for a stronger game, but, let me tell you something:there is a $3.3 billion revenue pie(the revenue numbers last year),for both the NHL,and the NHLPA,to slice up,and there was a report(yesterday)that one NHL club(Toronto Maple Leafs),is worth a billion($1B)dollars,so i know that some NHL clubs are struggling, but with that big of a revenue pie, they should be able to slice up,so do not tell me that the NHL,and the NHLPA are doing it for the strength of the game that is the NHL,because with that revenue pie,the NHL is healthy, but the small market teams are still complaining about their slice of that revenue pie... who honestly cares!!!!!!! while the owners, and the players fight over that revenue pie,the fans, the people associated with the arenas, along with the small, and big businesses that survive on the fringes of the towns that have NHL teams are really suffering a massive revenue drain, but both of you morons do not care a flying whit about them, not one iota, and that sickens me no end... the love of the beautiful game of hockey gives me solace, and yet every day,i read about the machinations of the business of hockey, and it makes me very pissed, because i see the beauty of the game, but then i see this circus,i get very, very sick of the people that say they care for the fans, because everyone involved in this circus are simply lying through their teeth about that fact... to Gary Bettman,Donald Fehr, the owners, and the players, who make a massive, almost obscene, amount of revenue, simply shut up,and get the collective bargaining agreement(CBA)ratified, and stop posing, and lying,in saying that you really care for the fans, because it is not true,at all, because if you did, there would not have been a lockout... i know that the NHL is a business, but it is also a beautiful game, and yet the fans still suffer, because the business of the NHL really sucks, and both sides of the dispute, who will make out royally,no matter what happens, with the NHL lockout, but again the true fans still suffer, and they are really pissed... to those people involved with this circus, expect smaller crowds, lower television and other revenue, for a while, because you have really pissed off a vast majority of the fan base... even the true fans are really pissed, morons, and whose fault are that:YOURS!!!!!!!!!!

NHL news...

the Federal Mediation, and Conciliation Services have offered their services to both sides to the ongoing NHL lockout... they are the same group that helped the NFL,and NFLPA through their lockout in 2010,but before anybody gets too excited(i am not...),it is non-binding on both sides, and last time(2004-2005),they had a mediator, they still cancelled the season... my opinion:anything may help, but will it help Bettman, and Fehr put down the pitchforks!!!!!!!!

commentary...

with the NHLPA threatening to decertify, the 2012-2013 NHL season appears to be in jeopardy, because neither the NHLPA,or the NHL appears to be serious in making an attempt in ending the now 72 day NHL lockout... my opinion:i am so very sick of this ongoing circus,of posing,in front of the international media(US,and Canadian media),and actually saying absolutely nothing at all... hey, boys,do you care a flying whit, about your fans, who are financing your game,by buying tickets to your games, concessions, and teams' apparel??? i really doubt your sincerity... i saw a holiday spot, for the NHL,recently, and let me tell you something:i turned the channel, after giving it one finger in response... it took 303 days to end the 2004-2005 NHL lockout, and an entire season,to boot... to Gary Bettman,Donald Fehr, and both negotiation teams, the fans will remember this ongoing circus for a very long time... i know i shall remember this manure... you have made the beautiful game of NHL hockey, into a pile of warm spit... i rather go watch kids play street hockey,or even skate around on a crystal sheet of ice,on a bitterly cold day in the Yukon, than watch you play ONE PERIOD of NHL hockey, right now... i am so disgusted...

fan gives earful,to Bettman, and more NHL news...

my hero for this day is a Philadelphia Flyers' fan named Jaymes Hall, who interrupted the media scrum,in front of NHL headquarters,in NYC,to ask NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman a few questions,in front of the media, and in private, but i loved it,because as a fan,i just hope that Bettman really understands that the fans have had enough of this circus:his question was,"why don't you both put the money under dispute, into an escrow account, and get back to playing hockey"... in a related story,Roman Hamrlik of the Washington Capitals,is rather pissed at the NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr, saying that he remembers 2004,when the players took a bad deal, after not voting on a better deal, earlier on in that strike year, and wants the players to vote on the current proposal(YES or NO),then get back to playing hockey... my question:how many more players are very upset,at this circus??? makes me wonder....

odd items to buy online...

an Ontario lawyer(Jim Vigmond)tried to buy the 1966-1967 Toronto Maple Leafs' Stanley Cup Banner, during an online auction,of Maple Leafs' items from old Maple Leaf Gardens(it sold for $34,000),so instead he bought the Leafs' locker room toilet, for $5,300...

idiocy in NYC...

NHL/NHLPA seem to be far apart in negotiations, over a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA),even after the union proposal presented today... expect more cancellations of games,by next week... my opinion:just flush the 2012-2013 NHL season down the corporate drain, you greedy owners, and players... "a pox on both your houses"...

collective bargaining agreement update...

NHLPA has given the NHL a revised five year collective bargaining agreement(CBA)proposal,today... they talked in two sessions for almost three hours... games have been cancelled through November 30th,and some sources have pointed to a 68 game season, starting on December 1st,which means that the next few days are critical to the process of ratifying a new collective bargaining agreement(CBA)... however, personally, the circus has gone on way too long, and my opinion is simple:WHO CARES!!!!

LOCKOUT:DAY SIXTY SIX...

points of contention,for NHLPA...

the NHL wants the NHLPA to put their entire economic proposal on the table, whether they do it,is the $64,000 question... the four points of the union's gripes, accordingly to sources are(i am combining two of the points, because it deals with circumventing the salary cap):putting salary of players into the American Hockey League,or into Europe(examples:Wade Redden(the first example),and Cristobal Huet(the second example)),and front-loading long term contracts, then "lowering" the amount of money owed in later years of the long term deal(example:Ilya Kovalchuk's original contract, with the New Jersey Devils(a 17 year,$102 million long term deal, that was rejected the day after by the NHL)... there is $5.7 billion in outstanding contract liabilities signed by the players, and how does the League(NHL) deal with that???,and the final "gripe",is what to do with beginning(entry level) contracts(number of years),and free agency(arbitration rights of players vs rights of the NHL teams)...

LOCKOUT:DAY SIXTY FIVE...

commentary...

to tell you the truth, this blog is very tough to write, because i want to report on the NHL,but there is very little to report,on the current collective bargaining agreement(CBA)talks, which really does frustrate me no end... i am very tired of that circus, and their posing, and talking about shared revenue, and divisions of the revenue pie, that is the NHL's business side... i desperately want to talk about great goals, great saves, and the huge rivalries that the NHL have(examples:Canadiens-Maple Leafs,Flyers-anybody in the Eastern Conference(laughing),Red Wings-Blackhawks,Sharks-Red Wings, and even the Stanley Cup Champions Kings-Sharks)... those rivalries are the tip of the iceberg, that the NHL has,in their league... i am just very tired of just reporting on the days of this stinking lockout...

Grand Rapids Griffths are 8-4-1-1,and are in first place,in the Midwest Division of the Western Conference, with eighteen points, two points ahead,of the Chicago Wolves... in an ironic twist, the Griffiths are the only team in their division to have scored more goals than they have allowed... i know it is early...

i love the beautiful game of hockey, and always will... seeing kids on a flat sheet of frozen crystal ice, skating toward an empty net,and shooting the puck over and over,to hone skills that few kids,or people have, and is a treasure to behold... people have the opinion that hockey is a violent game, but let me say this:it is a very easy game,to play, but very, very hard to master, and is not easy to become a legend,or even good at your craft, because most people who get minor league contracts do not get the call up to the NHL,but the game is beautiful to watch, and very difficult to master(NHL level),so to get there, you have to be a very special talent... so it always goes back to seeing kids,on a flat sheet of frozen crystal ice shooting the puck toward an empty net over and over,to hone skills that few kids,or people have, and is a treasure to behold... as for the game being violent,it is a hard game to play, and a harder game to master... just like NFL football, those two sports are the toughest to play, and the NHL trophy(Stanley Cup) is the toughest trophy to win in sports:sixteen wins in four best of seven series over a two month stretch, even after a eighty two rough and tumble games,of a marathon season, and to make it tougher on the team,a point,in October,in a nothing game,at the beginning of the season, may be tougher to collect, than a point,in April, when the team is fighting for a playoff spot... in my opinion, the point in October is more important than the point in April, because without getting those early points,in October,it sets up the whole season, for a team on the rise...

NHL news,and comments...

the NHL suggested a two week break in the current collective bargaining agreement(CBA)negotiations, last night,as i read the article... honestly,NHL/NHLPA are not serious in negotiating,period... my opinion:i am very tired of this circus, and i just feel that they simply want to cancel the 2012-2013 NHL season,period..."a pox on both of their houses",i am just very, very angry about this circus,period...

Griffiths' game score,and comments...

Grand Rapids Griffiths 5,Peoria Rivermen 3... Griffiths win their fifth straight game, with a domination of Peoria, with four goals,in last twenty two minutes of game time... Landon Ferraro scored two goals, including an empty net goal, with two seconds left in game,to ice game...

get well,Blake...

i really hope that Blake Geoffrion(i believe),grandson of Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion, recovers from a depressed skull fracture, suffered in a AHL game, between the Hamilton Bulldogs, and the Syracuse Crunch, last night... he is expected to fully recover, but is in intensive care, right now... prayers go out to him,and his family...

commentary...

you may think that i am very upset about the lack of NHL hockey, and you are right... after fifty five,or fifty six days,of the NHL lockout, the NHL/NHLPA do not seem to be any closer to having the 2012-2013 NHL season on track, and playing games that count... the week's negotiations showed promise, and if i was a betting man, they should be back at negotiations for the new collective bargaining agreement(CBA),after the Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony, this weekend, but who knows??? honestly, there may be time for a shorter 2012-2013 NHL season, but get it done... the fans are pissed, the facilities(arenas)are losing money, and the NHL/NHLPA are losing credibility,in saying that the season can be played out, because nothing is getting done... my opinion: they(NHL/NHLPA)do not seem to care about the fans,at all... i love the beautiful game of hockey, and that is true, but this is frustrating, because the NHL/NHLPA just want the almighty dollar over all else, and fans do not matter, and if they cancel the season, without much of a fight,it is time to draw a line in the sand, and say,"no more"...

commentary...

NHL/NHLPA negotiate for third straight day... pundits have said that this week is critical to get job done, but honestly,i really do care about the game of hockey, but the NHL,and NHLPA,can simply suck rock,if they do not get job,of a ratifying a new collective bargaining agreement(CBA)shortly... if they both are stupid enough to cancel a season, for the second time,in seven years,i will say,"a pox on both of their houses"... i am simply angry, upset, disgusted, and really do not care about this circus... it is time to make a stand against real greedy players, and owners, who simply do not care about the people who honestly make their sport a success, the real fans of the beautiful game of hockey...

KHL break in schedule...

after the game between Dinamo Riga-Dinamo Minsk, today, the KHL have a ten day break,in their schedule...

Walleye game,and comments...

Evansville IceMen 4,Toledo Walleye 1... after a scoreless first period, and an early 1-0 lead,in the second period,by the Walleye, the IceMen mowed down, and decimated the Walleye,by scoring two goals in the second period, and two more goals,in the third period... the Walleye early on this season have been a scrappy bunch, and have played very well, but honestly, they laid an egg, against Evansville...

Griffiths game score,and comments...

NHL history...

today marks a milestone in NHL history:fifty three years ago,in a game between the Montreal Canadiens, and the New York Rangers, when the Rangers' Andy Bathgate launched a backhand,at 3:06 of the first period, and hit Montreal Canadiens' goaltender Jacques Plante square in the face, and after being stitched up,and a twenty one minute delay,Plante returned, wearing a mask that he wore in practice, and he finished the game, which the Canadiens won,3-1... the evolution of the goalie mask started for the NHL that night,in Madison Square Garden, fifty three years ago,on November 1st,1959...

commentary...

honestly,i am very upset about the callous tones,of the NHL/NHLPA,in the new collective bargaining agreement talks... both sides seem to want to cancel the entire season,no matter what they say and pose, and say to the true fans of the most beautiful game of hockey... i am a true fan of the game, not of the Red Wings,or the NHL/NHLPA,right now, when i say this, but i am proud of the Red Wings, their players, and their team history... the heads of the NHL negotiating teams have not done their jobs in getting a new collective bargaining agreement in place, and i blame them no end... after seven years of record revenues, for both the players, and owners, even though there are teams who are in financial trouble(so they say),there should be a CBA in place, and both of them have really forgotten the real, and true, fans of the game of hockey, some of them, who travel long distances to see their teams, even though the price of tickets, and other things can be outrageous, when traveling, and the NHL and NHLPA have gotten so proud,in believing that fans will come back, and see the game, after disrespecting the true fans of the game, who really finance the game, let alone the seasonal workers who work for the arenas, and for the teams,themselves... to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and NHLPA head Donald Fehr, shame on both of you,PERIOD,for this circus of this situation...

story of friendship...

this is a story of two friends, who lived in Canada, and got into a fight(boxing match),and one "whupped" the other(as one said),and became very good friends... one got drafted by the WHA,and the NHL(and won a Stanley Cup,with the Montreal Canadiens),and one was in the main event of the original WrestleMania, after years of being in the independent circuits, and the other guy was in fifth row,in Madison Square Garden, besides Billy Crystal... one became a WWE Hall of Fame member, and when the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup,the other players would not allow the engravers to put any names on the Stanley Cup,without having the other person's name on the Stanley Cup... so they have been friends since the boxing match so long ago... who are they??? answer:Rod Toombs("Rowdy" Roddy Piper),and Cam Connor...

NHL news,and commentary...

NHL/NHLPA collective bargaining agreement talks broke down after a hour... the NHLPA's response to the offer was three proposals, with some variations,of their first proposal, made in August, which were a non-starter for the NHL,back then,so it was a non-starter for the NHL,now... the NHLPA is playing hardball, and it sucks, because the fans ultimately lose out... i really wonder if the NHLPA really wants a season,at all, because knowing what is known of NHLPA head Donald Fehr, that he is a real jerk, and someone who is all for the players, which may be alright, but it makes for a tough negotiation, and the fans ultimately lose out, because the NHL is the best hockey league in the world... Donald Fehr, and MLB Commissioner Bud Selig both shut down the 1994 MLB season, when Fehr was head of the MLBPA,and the lockout lasted into training camp the next season,so when the NHLPA hired Fehr to negotiate this CBA,i knew that the 2012-2013 NHL season was in jeopardy, and now the fruits of my suspicions are bearing the evil fruit,of no hockey, for awhile...

i have tried to be a blogger who gives you much hockey, trivia, and insight into the game of hockey... however, with the ongoing NHL lockout, and the arrogance of both the heads of the NHL negotiating teams, the NHLPA,the players, the NHL owners, and Commissioner Gary Bettman,it makes this lockout a little more bitter-tasting than in 2004-2005,when the NHL scrapped a season, for no good reason... you can tell that i still am a little bitter over that lost season... two days ago was supposed to be opening night of the NHL season... i got so upset that i actually watched a period of the University of New Hampshire-St. Cloud State game, last night, but the video quality of the game was poor and the close-ups of shooting of the puck toward the goaltender were non-existent,which means you could not tell how good the shots were, which sucks, and what replay? very poor... i am not happy about missing NHL hockey, and to tell you the truth,,it upsets me no end... i love the beautiful game of hockey, but i am not finding this lack of hockey disturbing, because people who are in NHL,and NHLPA simply do not care at all about the fans, who made the NHL a very profitable business, over the last seven seasons, and yet the greedy players, union, and owners want the majority of the revenues,of the game, and the fans get royally screwed, not watching the game throughout Canada, and the United States, and people,of the NHLPA,NHL,and the players not listening to their legitimate complaints,of no hockey... before you count your money corporately, remember this:you greedy people,THE FANS WILL REMEMBER YOUR ARROGANCE!!!!!!!!

in 1993-1994,when the New York Rangers won their first Stanley Cup,since 1940,who led the team in scoring,in the regular season??? answer:Sergei Zubov, who had 89 points, during the season... personal note:fans used to chant,"1940",to the team, when they sucked, and i vividly remember my first trip to NYC's Grand Central Station, and hearing the echo of,and joining in,"LET'S GO RANGERS",in Grand Central Station, during their Eastern Conference Finals' series, against the New Jersey Devils, that postseason...

commentary...

the NHL lockout is all about money... i do not like Donald Fehr(NHLPA head),and Gary Bettman(NHL Commissioner),period... you basically told the fans to take a hike, after seven years of record revenues, and you expect the fans to forgive you,for the love of the game... well,Gary, and Donald,go take a long hike yourselves, you greedy people... Donald, you ruined Major League Baseball, with Commissioner Bud Selig, with a lockout,in 1994,and it took me sixteen years to really care for baseball,again... Gary, you went through a season-long lockout in 2004-2005,for the NHL,and i still have not forgiven you for that diva-like stance... i will not forget this slap in the face,to me,and to the real fans of this beautiful game... i am a fan of the NHL,but not of the two of you,at all... to the players, and owners,of NHL negotiation committee, get the job of getting the new collective bargaining agreement done, and to the Commissioner, and NHLPA head, stop posing in front of the cameras, and simply go away...

NHL news...

NHL,and NHLPA met for three hours today, and exchanged proposals,in an attempt to avoid a NHL-enforced lockout,on September 15,2012... is there time to save the NHL season??? my opinion:until they get very serious,no,but if they did get very serious, there is time...

Chris, come back to the NHL,IN ANY CAPACITY,and i hope that you have a great life,no matter what you do... you are a Hall of Fame caliber player,in my opinion, and tell you the truth,i may have not liked your play on the ice,but Chris, you played with a true passion for the game, and i may have griped about you,but honestly,i did respect, and admire you for your all-out gritty play...

NHL news...

the NHLPA alleges that laws in Alberta, and Quebec prohibit a team lockout of the Calgary Flames,Edmonton Oilers, and Montreal Canadiens... one question for NHLPA:what happened in 2004-2005,when NHL scrapped the season???
my opinion:the players' union is getting desperate,in stopping the NHL,from locking the players out,on September 15th...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game...

Monday, September 10, 2012

KHL game...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 5,Metallurg Magnitogorsk 4,shootout win

commentary...

are the NHL,and NHLPA SERIOUS about a new collective bargaining agreement(CBA)???... the old one expires on September 15th,2012,and they have had one informal meeting in the last ten days... as a fan, both sides seem to want a lockout, and basically, the fans really lose, which really sucks... both sides talk gibberish about issues that if they were serious about inking the new CBA,they would go into a room, lock the doors, and be there, except for food, and bathroom breaks, until the job is done, but they want to pose, act big,and be big donkeys,in front of the cameras... i usually buy the NHL hockey package by this time of year, but honestly,i am so sick of this lack of progress, and this circus, that if they even get one inked,i WILL NOT buy the NHL hockey package, unless they sign the new CBA,this week, and that appears as likely as getting hit by lightning,in a bathtub, indoors, while talking on the phone... so pose all you want Gary(Bettman),Donald(Fehr),and both sides of the negotiating teams, and lose a season, like in 2004-2005... i went through hockey withdrawals, once, but honestly, right now,i am very, very steamed, angry, pissed, and upset,to deal with this circus... really too bad!!!!!!!!

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game...

Metallurg Magnitogorsk plays Lokomotiv Jaroslavl,tomorrow...

update...

i will keep track of Lokomotiv Jaroslavl during this KHL season,no matter what the Red Wings, and the NHL,do this season...

Saturday, September 8, 2012

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl will play their first home game, since the plane crash that claimed 44 people,on 7 Septembre 2011,including most of the team,on 16 Septembre,2012... i guarantee that there will not be a dry eye in the arena, and also a raucous crowd, for the game... they play Atlant Mytischi... note:Russian names of teams are quite different, but are spelled correct,to best of ability...

commentary...

yesterday, the NHL,and NHLPA did have an informal negotiating session, but the clock keep ticking, while the thirty teams do work to prepare for the 2012-2013 NHL season... training camps are supposed to open around September 20th,if they can finish negotiation for the new collective bargaining agreement,by September 15th... everyone thinks a lockout is coming,so NHL and NHLPA get off your corporate rearends, and do your job...

commentary...

the NHL,and NHLPA have been in collective bargaining agreement talks for months... both sides have wasted much time in negotiating the CBA,for this upcoming season... the NHL wanted to talk about this before last season, during,in the playoffs, and then after last season, and the players' association delayed until late June... the League's first proposal was steep in terms of the economic issues, and the players' association's counter-proposal was for three years, with an mutual option, for the fourth year, with possible revenue sharing like Major League Baseball... the NHL tried to move closer with their second proposal, with a movement of $460 million, into a "pool",for the players, and owners to share, making it better for the players, but the players' association's proposal did not budge one inch from the first proposal, talking mostly about revenue sharing, which combined with the length proposed(three years, with an option, for a fourth year),is basically a non-starter,so they are not talking, and it is looking like a lockout,on September 16th...
my opinion:it is just terrible for the fans, because the fans really lose, and even though the NHL seems to be trying to bridge the economic gap,and are willing to talk,on most issues, the NHLPA has acted like a petulant child, and seems to be thinking that the deadline for a labor deal is October 11th(not September 15th),according to four player agents, and the NHL,when you can not have a full 82 game regular season with no training camp, because the clubs, and players need time,to get into hockey shape... even though the NHL does seem to be ready to get deal done, both sides may have different hang-ups on the deal, but to have the NHLPA not to make a serious counter-proposal to the League's first,or even their second proposal is just foolish, and the fact that the NFL,and NBA have labor pacts of ten years, makes the NHLPA's three year, with an option for a fourth year, proposal basically a joke on the owners... it seems like the NHLPA wants a lockout called, then sue in federal court about the fact that the League locked out the players, and try to force federal mediation on the owners, because they simply have not been very serious in negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement... unless they get a deal done, the fans lose big time....

Friday, August 31, 2012

comment...

i will comment tomorrow,on both press conferences, between the NHL,and NHLPA,about the collective bargaining agreement talks, and i do really have something to say,but right now,i am very, very upset about the stalling of the talks...

commentary...

now,it finally looks like third NHL lockout in 17 years is on.... the NHL says that the counter-proposal made by the NHLPA,was for three years, and a fourth year of players' option,of team-related revenues,"snap back",to 57%,of total revenue, which is a total non-starter,and a total joke,of a proposal... when NHLPA hired Donald Fehr,as head of their union,i honestly knew that this (2012-2013 NHL season)was in deep trouble, because my deep loathing of Donald Fehr goes back to 1994,when he and MLB Commissioner Bud Selig(do not get me going on him, please)shut down the 1994 season,in August,or September, and cancelled that year's World Series, which i will never forgive,or forget that little fact... as a true hockey fan,i am very, very upset, and very sad, right now...

commentary...

i am a true hockey fan... people may say that i just watched the 1997 and 1998 Stanley Cup Finals highlights, because i am a Detroit Red Wings' fan,and they would be right, but honestly,i still remember the breaking of the forty-two year Stanley Cup drought, like it was yesterday, and honestly,i love to look back at history... since there is a severe dead time in the NHL,with a possibility of a third lockout, since 1995,and second one since 2004,looking back at real history, and remembering the goals(Darren McCarty's Stanley Cup winning goal, from 1997,against Philadelphia Flyers was a stunning beauty),and real beauty of "the beautiful game" makes me literally cry...
people tend to forget that the true game of hockey is a stick,a puck, and child shooting at an open net,and that real beauty, and not the business of the game, which, right now, does suck rock... i love the game of hockey so much, that i simply say that,"out of one arm,i bleed Red and White(Detroit Red Wings' colors),and out of the other arm,i bleed Green,White, and Gold(Green Bay Packers' colors)"... to tell you the truth,i really do,but i love the real, true, and beautiful game of hockey most of all...

i will do team analysis of all thirty NHL teams, around September 15th(the last day of the current expiring collective bargaining agreement(CBA)),and if there is a lockout,it will be delayed,to around of the start of training camp, whenever that will be(depending of length of 2012-2013 NHL season)...

Red Wings' news...

update...

i have not talked about unrestricted free agent Shane Doan too much,recently... he has said that he wants to wait to make a decision until after the Phoenix Coyotes' ownership situation is settled(it is not settled),but now he is saying that he will make his decision,by September 15th(the last day of the expiring CBA)... Doan is last link to the original Winnipeg Jets' team, when he was drafted by the Jets, before they moved to Phoenix, from Winnipeg,in 1997...

update...

Jack Jablonski had a great but busy weekend, last weekend... last week,he visited the Minnesota Vikings' training camp, blew the gjallarhorn(Vikings' big ceremonial horn),before the Vikings' preseason game, against the San Diego Chargers, and then the Los Angeles Kings' Davis Drewiske brought the Stanley Cup,for part of his day with the Stanley Cup,to Jablonski's house... on the medical front,Jablonski was actually crawling on the ground, during a recent checkup... GO JACK!!!!!!!

what is important about a zero-zero tie, between the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Montreal Canadiens,on March 10,1955,in Montreal,in which Canadiens' fans got so mad that they threw garbage,on the ice, including pigs' feet, because of the Maple Leafs' defensive play??? answer:the Zamboni* was first introduced, that night...

commentary...

NHL.com has their "30 in 30" analysis of every NHL team focused on the San Jose Sharks,today... an early first round playoff loss,to St. Louis Blues, after two consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances does not look good to the fans... the addition of Brad Stuart, and assistant coach(and nine time Stanley Cup Champion, six as a player)Larry Robinson should help their 29th ranked penalty kill(it was 79.5%,last year),but nothing else has changed in San Jose, and with their major stars, all over the age of 30 years of age,and no major help coming from their American Hockey League affiliate(Worcester MA. Sharks),in terms of younger back-end talent, the Sharks' window to win the Stanley Cup appears to be closing... since Logan Couture was drafted, they have had only two first round NHL draft picks(one of those,in 2012)... i told you last season that trading goals, for goals was not going to work, because the trades took out the younger talented Sharks out of their major team rotation, and left the Sharks with very little back-end talent on their roster.. the top two lines,on their roster are very good, but Houston, they have a major problem, the team balance is way off, because they need somebody young to give them major contributions in terms of goalscoring(12 to 15 goals, next season),and team defense(remember 79.5% penalty kill, last season)... that will improve because of Stuart, and Robinson, but the talent on the ice has not changed that much, which is the team killer, because,in San Jose,no Stanley Cup means frustration, the clock keeps on ticking, and the window is closing... they should have cleaned house and started over, not in terms of talent, but the problem is the inept front office, but now they are stuck in a position that no NHL team would like to be in,because the major contenders, and even the teams(not in playoffs, last season) have improved in both conferences, and the Sharks have stayed basically the same, which is the major problem,in San Jose...

a letter to Gary,and Donald...

to the NHL,and NHLPA:you are simply going through the motions,of meeting... are you kidding me,ninety minutes, then next week?you should get in the room, and not come out until you have an agreement,if you are serious about getting an agreement done, but both of you,in a corporate way,are not definitely not serious about coming to an agreement, because you pose in front of the cameras, and say the most inane things, about getting an agreement in place, and then go behind closed doors, and simply lie to each other, about agreeing,so then you go out and simply do not tell the fans nothing at all, about the negotiations, for the new collective bargaining agreement(CBA),and then the clock ticks onto the date of expiration of the old CBA(September 15th,2012),and as NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, has said,in certain terms, there will be a lockout, and then the 2012-2013 NHL season,is either shortened,or scrapped, like in 2004-2005... as one fan who does remember the callous cancellation of that season,by Commissioner Bettman,it made me mad then... how do you think it will affect the fans of the NHL,now,if both of you go down that route, again??? do you even care??? get the job done!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry, folks, this is a stream of thought, not a normal post)...

commentary...

honestly,is the NHL,and the NHLPA serious about the new collective bargaining agreement and its extension, into a time frame, that is feasible, for both the League, the NHLPA,and the fans??? the NHL's proposal wanted player share of revenue go from 57%, to 46%... union numbers, which are different;they are talking of 43% of team revenue, for the players, instead of 46%,according to the NHL... the union's proposal was for the collective bargaining agreement to be,for three years... YOU KIDDING ME??? what a joke,on both fronts... NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and NHLPA head Donald Fehr(he,of the 1994 MLB lockout, and strike fame)must want to get a new CBA in place, and there is still time, but to cancel a negotiating session,on Wednesday, does not look good to the fans... with Bettman saying that the NHL will not play under the expiring CBA,and thus threatening a lockout,of the players,it is time to get off your hands to do something... does anyone hear the fans, and their complaints? i do not think so...

due to the uncertainty of the labor troubles(CBA talks),and pending lockout, the Red Wings have cancelled their annual prospects camp,in Traverse City,Michigan...

commentary...

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was,"disappointed",in the NHLPA's counter economic proposal to the new collective bargaining agreement(CBA) talks, and says that there is a "wide gap",in both proposals... he has said that the NHL owners will not play under the expiring, but, right now, current CBA,for another season... anyone, for a possible LOCKOUT,this season??? old CBA expiring September 15th,2012... my feelings for Bettman,as NHL Commissioner,go way deep, and let me say, that they are very low grade,as a Commissioner,of a professional sports league... he presided over the shady movement of a franchise, from Winnipeg,to Phoenix(and that franchise is still owed,by the NHL,as of right now),and the 2004-2005 NHL lockout, which,to this day, irritates me no end(and still is the only time, that a professional sports league shut down, because of labor trouble, for an entire season)...

bad news:they have signed very few free agents, missing out on the big names,in free agency...
bad news:Red Wings lost in five games,to Nashville,in the first round of last year's playoffs...

Canada-Russia Challenge...

the Canada-Russia Challenge is a series of four games, looking back to 1972 Summit Series, between Canada, and the Soviet Union(a rather nasty series of seven games, won by Canada in a surprise win,of 4 games to 3 games, back in 1972)... now back to the future:the first two games have been played in Jaroslavl,Russia, and the next two games will be played in Halifax,Nova Scotia... Canada won first game,3-2,with a three goal second period, and Russia won the second game,6-3,behind Kirill Kasputin's hat trick... Kasputin plays for... guess who? Lokomotiv Jaroslavl!!!!! proceeds of the series' games,in Jaroslavl,Russia,go to helping the families of the Lokomotiv Jaroslavl plane tragedy...

Red Wings' news...

the Red Wings have about $13 million dollars,in salary cap room... they need help,on the blueline, but it appears that they are waiting for the new collective bargaining agreement(CBA)to be ratified,to fill out their roster, for next season...

NHL news...

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says that NHL will lock out the players, without a new collective bargaining agreement... the old CBA expires September 15th,2012...

today in NHL history...

twenty-four years ago today,Wayne Gretzky was traded by the Edmonton Oilers,to the Los Angeles Kings... even though the Oilers won the Stanley Cup,in 1990,without him,Edmonton, honestly, has not been the same team, since then... however, the NHL has exploded into Southern California,Arizona, and Florida, since that date... NHL pundits, and hockey buffs, see the day as,"the day that hockey changed"... former owner Peter Pocklington is still a villain,in Edmonton, for selling(trading)Gretzky,to Kings... however it was a dispute, between Gretzky, and Pocklington, over his contract, and the fact that Gretzky changed his personal services contract,to a standard five year contract, and making him a free agent,in 1988-1989,and the fact that Gretzky would not renegotiate his contract, during the season... that was not known to the fans,at that time... the press conference in Edmonton, for Gretzky, saying goodbye to the fans was a tear jerker...

collective bargaining agreement update...

the collective bargaining agreement(CBA)negotiations yesterday focused on supplemental discipline issues,in their ongoing talks, and it will go on... old CBA expires September 15th,and both sides have said that there is still time to come up with new CBA,before that date... until then,i will be upbeat about the negotiations...

Kocur's cause...

former Red Wings' enforcer Joey Kocur has a charity softball game, near Detroit,at least for the last four years,to benefit The Joe Kocur Foundation, for Children... Team White beat Team Red,14-7... it is an event, with four different games that day;a Little League game,a sponsor appreciation game,a law enforcement vs. firefighters game, and a celebrities game, with many Detroit-area professional players playing, along with announcers involved, playing, and commentating the game... last year(2011),it raised $75,000... to help children,it was a class act,and a whole lot of fun...

Red Wings' news...

Red Wings signed Tomas Jurco, their 2011 second round pick,to a three year entry level contract(rookie contract),and will play with the Grand Rapids Griffiths, their American Hockey League affiliate...

Monday, August 6, 2012

commentary...

the Boston Bruins have a problem in goal, this upcoming season... they lost their starting goaltender(Tim Thomas),to "personal reasons"(his words),and they did sign his backup(Tuukka Rask),to an one year contract, last week, but the Bruins are saying that it is no big deal... only thing is:to go into a complete 82 game NHL season, with one proven(no matter how good that guy is)goaltender,is major trouble(example:2009-2010 Red Wings',and last half,of last season(2012-2013),with the Red Wings, when they had major injuries, and they called up players, from Grand Rapids)... no matter what the Bruins say, they have major trouble, this upcoming season...

Sunday, August 5, 2012

NHL news...

Phoenix Coyotes' free agent Shane Doan reiterated his desire to re-sign with the only club that he has been with, throughout his NHL career... he was drafted by the original Winnipeg Jets, and moved to Phoenix with the franchise... he is holding up his decision, because of the instability of the ownership situation... he has visited five,or so,teams for salary offers, but really wants to end his career, with Phoenix... i really hope the ownership situation in Phoenix,is cleared up soon... two things do hold it up,and they are:a possible referendum, and lawsuit, aiming to reverse the city of Glendale(Arizona),and its arena deal, with possible owner Greg Jamison, and a possible "gift clause" lawsuit, being pondered,by the Goldwater Institute... by the way,the NHL-NHLPA collective bargaining agreement talks also hold up the entire season...

what Hockey Hall of Fame member played his last game,in the Stanley Cup playoffs, against Detroit, for the Toronto Maple Leafs,in 1936? answer:Frank "King" Clancy, who later refereed 20 Stanley Cup Finals' games, and was inducted into the HHOF,IN 1958... when he died,in 1986,he was the last surviving member of the great 1922-1923 original Ottawa Senators' Stanley Cup-winning team(it was before the formation of the NHL)... the King Clancy Memorial Trophy is named for him,for leadership,on,and off the ice... his nickname,"King",came from his father who played Canadian football, for Ottawa, and his father, was known as,"the King of the Heelers",and then shortened to "King"... heeling was the way that they snapped the football, back in the early 20th century...

commentary...

i am a Detroit Red Wings' fan... a die-hard fan,if you must know... i do remember the "Dead Wings" era,of the 70's,and the 80's... i root for the team... the team history is sacred to me... i am just waiting to see what the Red Wings are going to do,because the Red Wings may be an underdog this upcoming season, and the fans may have been spoiled by this 20+year run of playoff success that the Red Wings have had,and yet, they still have talent to compete, unlike the "Dead Wings" era, which was horrible,period...
to me,the team is what i root for, good,or bad,and there are fair-weather fans out there, who only root for a team, when they are winning, and do not realize that the team that they root for may not have a good year,or two... the true fans are the ones who stand with the team, when the good times are good, and the bad things happen... the Red Wings do have enough talent,to compete,or the talent will fall short, and the Red Wings struggle for a playoff spot...
i am a die-hard fan of the Red Wings,period...

not all players go for the money, just yet...

Mark Jankowski, the first scholastic player picked,at 21st,in first round,of the 2012 NHL draft,by the Calgary Flames, has elected to go continue his education, and play collegiate hockey,at Providence College, this upcoming season...

injury update...

remember Jack Jablonski? there was a fundraiser that raised $120,000,over the weekend, for his medical needs,at the XCEL Energy Center,in St. Paul,Minnesota(home of the Minnesota Wild)... he was injured December 30th,2011,in a junior-varsity game, between Benilde-St. Margaret's High School, and Wayzata High School,in Minnesota... update:during an appointment to see how he is doing,in mid-May,he actually moved his little finger, and his leg,and ankle,slightly... the hospital staff got excited... he tweeted,at that time,"just slightly moved little finger, and left leg/ankle" #bigday"... he also visited his school,May 30th...

update...

the Steve Moore vs Todd Bertuzzi,Marc Crawford, and the Vancouver Canucks,et al lawsuit hearing has been moved again,to January,2013... this lawsuit goes back to a game, between the Colorado Avalanche, and the Vancouver Canucks, before the NHL's lost season(lockout),in which Bertuzzi jumped onto the back of Moore, and drove Moore's head and neck onto the ice,in a hotly contested game,in which both teams were very nasty,in the game... no argument about what happened in game(as far as what Bertuzzi did to Moore)... this lawsuit was filed,in 2006,and has been delayed for six years,by requests by the defense lawyers... only question is:how much money will every defendant pay to Moore??? Bertuzzi's stupidity was the worst thing that i ever saw on the ice,period...

collective bargaining agreement update...

NHL,and NHLPA discussed player benefits, and length of training camp, among other things,in a very informative, and so far, very cordial collective bargaining agreement talks over the last three days...

Thursday, July 26, 2012

commentary...

being a Red Wings' fan this off-season is not very fun, because Ken Holland(Red Wings' general manager)has sat on about $16 million dollar salary cap space, and has done very little to fill the major holes left on the blueline, with the departure of discontented Brad Stuart(to San Jose),and the retirement of seven-time Norris Trophy, and four time Stanley Cup winner,Nicklas Lidstrom... what in the world is Holland doing? being prudent, but the Red Wings' fans are on edge, because they see a huge hole in the blueline, and nothing being done,so they say... honestly, the top of the line defensivemen out in free agency wanted long term contract(example:Shea Weber's 14 year,$110 million re-signing,by the Nashville Predators, and the twin signings,by the Minnesota Wild,of Ryan Suter, and Zach Parise-basically both wanted to play near home,or had family considerations),and even though Red Wings had a lot of salary cap space, they were priced out of the signing wars, this year,so far... it is the team that i support,no matter what happens, but it will be a tough season for the fans, but,at least,i will give Holland time to reform the Red Wings' roster... i believe that the Red Wings will be an underdog this upcoming NHL season, whenever that happens(depending on collective bargaining agreement talks),and because of that they will fight for a playoff spot(as of right now)...

record that will not be broken...

the best plus/minus mark for a NHL player,is an amazing plus-700,by Larry Robinson, one of the best NHL defensivemen,in NHL history, who played for the Montreal Canadiens, and won five Stanley Cups... the second man on that list is Wayne "the Great One" Gretzky, with a plus-551... Robinson, and the recently retired Nicklas Lidstrom are the only NHL players, never to miss the Stanley Cup playoffs(20 years),in their careers...

hockey dead time...

during the NHL league year, this is the dead time, because all you hear about players being signed to various lengths of contracts, and you hear about retired players wanting to give it,"one more try",like Mike Modano, who retired after the 2010-2011 season... so it is trivia time, starting tomorrow...

Monday, July 16, 2012

NHL news,and NHL history...

Montreal Canadiens re-signed Blake Geoffrion, the only (as i believe)fourth generation NHL player(great-grandson of Hockey Hall of Fame member Howie Morenz, and grandson of Hockey Hall of Fame member Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion)... he signed a two way contract, worth $803,250,in the NHL...
in one of the most tragic twists,in NHL history,Morenz suffered a severely broken left leg, when his skate got stuck in the boards, and then a Chicago Black Hawks'(spelling of team name,in the 1930's) player fell on his leg, during a game, between Montreal, and Chicago,on January 28,1937,in Montreal... he never played in NHL,again, and tragically got depressed, and suffered a heart attack,in the hospital, while walking to the washroom,on March 8,1937... his funeral was at the Montreal Forum, and broadcast live throughout Canada,on radio, and had a rotating military honor guard,of four around the casket,as fans lined up to view the casket, and say last respects to Morenz...
personal note:when i read the story of Morenz's tragic death,i cried...

NHL news...

Washington Capitals re-signed defenseman Mike Green,to a $18.25 million dollar three year contract extension...

Sunday, July 15, 2012

feel good story...

23 year old Red Wings' prospect Bryan Rufenach died earlier this summer traveling in Europe(noted also earlier on this blog),so the Red Wings during their development camp,in Traverse City,Michigan, and the entire Red Wings' organization, and teams(Red Wings,Grand Rapids Griffiths,of the American Hockey League(AHL),and the Toledo Walleye,of the East Coast Hockey League(ECHL),proclaimed July 10th,2012,Bryan Rufenach Day,in Traverse City,Michigan...

NHL news...

fourteen free agents will have their salary arbitration hearings, starting July 20th,through August 4th... four free agents of note:Kyle Quincey, with the Detroit Red Wings, and Kris Versteeg, who won Stanley Cup,with Chicago,in 2009-2010,with the Florida Panthers,T.J. Oshie, with the St. Louis Blues, and Sam Gagner(Mister eight point(my words)-scored eight points in game, against the Chicago Blackhawks),with the Edmonton Oilers...

Saturday, July 14, 2012

a letter to Tomas Holmstrom...

dear Tomas:you have played 1,026 regular season games, have been the best in-front of net player,in NHL history, have absorbed hits to your ribs, and your knees are not what they were,in the past, but you are a player with character... you have said that you will play for the Red Wings, next season,or retire... i would love for you to play for the Red Wings, for,at least, one more year, but if you decide to retire, that is just fine, with this Red Wings' fan,but i really hope you have a great life, and simply do what your heart tells you,and if you play for the Red Wings, next season,i really hope you are really healthy, all season, because your health is most important than the beautiful game of hockey...

NHL'S collective bargaining agreement initial propositions....

1:trim player revenue,from 57%,to 46%,of total revenue...
2:player contracts would be limited to five years...
3:players would be have to wait ten years to become an unrestricted free agent,up from seven years,now...
4:salary arbitration would be eliminated...
5:entry level contracts would be extended to five years,up from three years...
6:eliminate signing bonuses,as,according to NHL,they alter players' share of hockey-related revenue...
7:range of salary cap revenue,from top to bottom,would go from $16 million,now,to $12 million,in the new collective bargaining agreement(CBA)...
my opinion:this is a long process, and some of these proposals have no chance... expect a dogfight...

NHL news...

in the category of,"no big surprise",the Anaheim Ducks re-signed Teemu Selanne,to an one year contract... Selanne holds NHL rookie goal-scoring record, when he scored 76 goals,in 1992-1993,with the original Winnipeg Jets... he has scored 663 goals,in his nineteen year career, and 466 goals(all-time leader),in Anaheim...
