commentary...

my love for hockey is genuine,i watch hockey on all levels, because of the beauty of the game, and seeing unbelievable passing and shooting of the puck, and spectacular goaltending,on all levels of play... i follow a team that shows all those things,at one time,or another---the Detroit Red Wings... of course i get mad at the referees, and sometimes believe that the team does not play well, and yet,i have seen enough hockey games on television to know what good hockey is... my favorite game,all-time,was a zero-zero tie, between St. Louis, and Detroit, because both goaltenders were on their games, and both teams deserved to win,and it was a shame that someone had to lose, and no one did, that day... that was beautiful hockey, that day...

commentary...

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland, and assistant general manager Jim Nill are the best on working on the salary cap.. Logic dictated that after the strike year,of 2004-2005,that the Red Wings were the team that would suffer the most, under a hard salary cap,in terms of the collective bargaining agreement(CBA),but the Red Wings have chugged along, with every year being in playoffs, two Stanley Cup Finals' appearances, and one Stanley Cup... they suffered with injuries, and lack of scoring, but still had an hundred point season(102 points, and fifth in Western Conference),and the most points,as a team,in the decade of the 2000's... Red Wings have kept most of their roster intact, and they will have a better season this coming-up season, and almost every other team have lost players this off-season,and that will make Red Wings stronger this season, and more potent on defense, which helps overall... with the season that they had last season, they will be more determined to win the Stanley Cup... the NHL will be tough this season, like always, but NHL,watch out, because the Red Wings are going to be tough as nails this coming-up season,as always, and they will be determined, and looking to decimate the NHL elite, and be among the elite, and, for 20th straight year, make the playoffs, and fight for Stanley Cup..

commentary...

Red Wings will challenge Blackhawks for the Central Division this year... for the most part, they stayed pat, only adding Jiri Hudler, who came back from Russia, which i did predict last year,pre-blog,and maybe add Mike Modano(but i do not think so),kept most of their free agents, and their core of players intact... Chicago may score more goals overall, but Red Wings will probably give up fewer goals, and play better defense... the problem with Chicago,is not that their marquee players are not excellent(they are),but their grit, and depth have been depleted, and their backup goaltender makes $5.625 million/year,which is not a very good barometer of success, because Roberto Luongo,of the Vancouver Canucks, makes $6 million/year,and plays 70 games a year... the streak of games, after the Olympic break, last year showed me everything about the team, because if Red Wings had not been so injured, they would been much better than they were, and they were very good, later in the season, than any team in NHL,the last half of the season, they were the best team,record-wise... Chicago will defend their Stanley Cup, with gusto, but will they win their own division? because of depth, and lack of grit,i doubt it,but Chicago will fight Red Wings for the division... but Chicago paid a steep price, for their Stanley Cup... unfortunately, they(Blackhawks) are not the same team they were last year, and Detroit may win that division, for the eighth time,in last nine years...

Antti Niemi,of the Chicago Blackhawks, was awarded $2.75 million for the year,in arbitration...

trivia answer...

Ebbie Goodfellow,in 1939-1940...

Red Wings' trivia...

who was the first Red Wings' player,to win the Hart Trophy,as MVP?

commentary...

i would never say that San Jose,in the series against Detroit,in last season's playoffs, did not deserve to win series... they did,and for the most part, they outplayed, and outhustled the Red Wings... in a show of candor, they beat the Red Wings,in that series... my only major complaint was the refereeing throughout the series was the worst of any of the playoff series... the referees showed up the coaches, and the Red Wings throughout that series, and that is why i am so down on referees, because the lousy ones in the league have such massive egos that they believe that everyone wants to see them referee the game, and somehow become part of the game, and they want the spotlight, and they want to decide who wins... examples:Stephan Auger,Paul Devorski, and Mike Leggo... they have the most penalties called, and each of them seem to have a thin skin, and arrogance to spare... they think they are very critical to the game, and they seem to have grudges against certain teams, but they think that they are bigger than the game, which i really can not stand that,so their arrogance and them being lousy compounds their so-called kingmaking bull...

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

commentary...

it looks like Mike Modano may not sign with Detroit, after all... so be it,but if he signs with San Jose,Anaheim,or Minnesota,i will boo him with a lust that i will enjoy, especially if he signs, with San Jose,or Anaheim... if he ends his career in Minnesota, where he started,i will smile with respect, but i think he wants a chance at Stanley,so i think he will sign with San Jose, because Detroit has not much cap space, but i believe that he will go for the money,in San Jose... i hope the Red Wings beat San Jose the most times, out of the four times that they play them,in the regular season, and beat them in the playoffs,if they play each other,in the playoffs... they got every break, against Red Wings,in the playoffs this last season, with calls not being made against Sharks,at critical times, but honestly,it did feel good,to score more goals in the series than San Jose, and see San Jose get smoked,7-1,in Detroit... Red Wings gave away game three, and the zebras gave them game two, with ten power plays, and a no-call,on Franzen, that set up the winning goal in the game, early in third period, and gave Franzen nine stitches, and two minutes(a front end of a five on three-two man advantage, caused by a phantom hold,by Franzen, and a dive/trip,by Setoguchi...) Setoguchi high-sticked Franzen, cut him(nine stitches),and got nothing... instead of being in the penalty box,for four minutes, and a power play for Detroit,Setoguchi, and the Sharks scored the winning goal, early in the third period,on the two minute penalty on Franzen, which was the front end of a two man advantage, and gave Sharks,an 4-2 lead, and three of the four wins,of the Sharks, were by the score,of 4-3... i despise San Jose, and i am not saying that San Jose did not win series, but the breaks went their way, like Anaheim had every break in their series, with the Red Wings,in 2007... i remember that, and the fact that Detroit got royally hosed in game two,of that series still irritates me,to this day...

NHL trivia...

commentary...

People may think this is a Red Wings' blog,as they are my favorite team, but i am a true hockey fan... most of what you read is about the Red Wings, mostly trivia and opinion, but i saw a very rare piece of film,of the 1928 Stanley Cup Finals' matchup, between the New York Rangers and the Montreal Maroons, and a video clip of the Red Army/Philadelphia Flyers game,in which Philadelphia mugged the Red Army team, and the Red Army team stormed off the ice, during the game, and announcers are saying,"they are going home...",and they are amazed.... i have a true love of the game of hockey, not because i am a fan of the Red Wings, but i see the beauty of the game, whether it be the Red Wings,or any other team... i even watch AHL,ECHL,junior,or NCAA hockey, because you learn the true game, when you watch hockey from the basics... why do i love,"Hockey Day in Canada",from CBC?,because i learn so much about pure hockey, and i see three games, between all six Canadian teams, which is usually very good, but i see kids shooting on a pond,or in one case, they use a frozen sheet of river ice of,i believe, two and a half miles,in Ottawa,in the shadows of the Parliament building.... what a beautiful sight that it was... that is real beautiful hockey!!!
