Red Wings' game score,and comments...
Red Wings 3,Devils 1... Darren Helm scored two goals, and Henrik Zetterberg had the game winning goal,as the Red Wings limited the Devils,to one shot,in third period... Red Wings are 12-1,against the Devils,in last thirteen games, between the teams... Red Wings are 13-4-6,at Joe Louis Arena, and are 20-9-9,so far, this season...
NHL news...
NHL owners have approved the sale of the financially struggling Arizona Coyotes to Andrew Barroway, now a 51 percent owner, for his investment of $152 million, taking over from IceArizona, who bought team for $170 million,earlier...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 3,Ottawa Senators 2,overtime... Gustav Nyquist scored a goal, after circling the Senators' net,for an unbelievable twenty eight seconds, and winning the game(the video of it,was just great)... the goal was a masterpiece of a goal, because he fended off numerous Ottawa defenders, and still scored the game winner... the shot itself could not broken anything,it was a soft wrist shot into the net past the goaltender... in my biased(i have to admit)opinion,it was the best goal scored this season by the Red Wings,if not the NHL,but you must see the video... what a goal!!!!!!!!!!

Red Wings 6,Buffalo Sabres 3... Red Wings score five goals in a row, down 3-1,then up 6-3,score four power play goals, and score as many goals in a game,as they scored in the last six games combined... Tomas Tatar scored two power play goals,as the Red Wings finally broke the ice,on scoring goals... what a game!!!!!!! now, brutality over....

Red Wings' game score,and comments...
Avalanche 2,Red Wings 1,shootout... Pavel Datsyuk scored his 13th goal, for the only regulation goal for the Red Wings... shootout lasted nine rounds, and Jarome Iginla won it for the Avalanche... Red Wings got a much needed point... Red Wings,1-7,in shootouts, this season... it is very brutal watching the Red Wings in the last two weeks... i hate shootouts!!!!!!!!!

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Islanders 2,Red Wings 1... another ugly game for the Red Wings... four goals,in the last five games, all losses, but points in three of them... referees could not call a penalty on the Islanders, even though,Travis Hamonic cross checked Gustav Nyquist head first in the boards, with seconds left in game, and many scrums after stop in play... however, the Red Wings clearly got out-played by the Islanders through most of the game, but, folks,a penalty is a penalty, from opening puck drop to final buzzer... the Red Wings,on this five game skid, have been hammered by teams who basically want to rough up the Red Wings, and the referees have not called too many penalties overall,at least,in the last two games... on a scale of one to ten:i rate the referees' work,an one... honestly, four goals,in five games, will not win games in the NHL,let alone Red Wings' games... defensively, overall, the Red Wings are playing well, but offensively, they can not shoot a barn from point blank range,in not scoring goals... eleven times, they missed the net, including a short-handed breakaway,by Darren Helm, late in the game... good teams go through these droughts, but good teams always come out smiling,at the end of their droughts... being a fan of the Red Wings right now is brutal, but i am still smiling,folks...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Blue Jackets 1,Red Wings 0,shootout... Red Wings 1-6,in shootouts, this season... referees really sucked, not a power play for either team,in third period, even though Columbus should have called for maybe three bad crosschecks,to a Red Wings' player, especially to Henrik Zetterberg,in the third period... Red Wings are having trouble scoring goals, but honestly, both teams had chances to win,in regulation,and/or overtime, with shots at wide open nets... even though, the Red Wings lost in a shootout, they got a much-needed point,tonight... i hate shootouts!!!!!!

reverse blog day,part two...
note:this blog post is a mistake,so today is reverse blog day, part two... honestly, yesterday, reminded me of Rodgers and his first year starting for the Packers,in 2008... not every game is a winner, but you have a clunker to deal with... his first year starting for the Packers was a year in which he threw for 4,000+ yards, but in winning time(the last four minutes-leading at that point, but losing game),the Packers won only one game(1-7,or 1-8),in 2008... they were 6-10(the Detroit Lions were 0-16,that year)... i learned one thing:Rodgers got much better, won Super Bowl XLV,and won a NFL MVP,in 2011,when the Packers were 15-1,in 2011... people are griping that this game blew the number one seed in the NFC... so what??? i do not care about playoff seeding... it all depends on which team gets on a roll,at that time... the first goal for the Packers is still in sight, winning the NFC North division crown, for the fourth time,by beating the Lions,in week seventeen, inside Lambeau Field,on a (hopefully)very, very cold and snowy day(something like the "Ice Bowl",temperature-wise)... the Packers then will play,"16 quarters"*,and try to win Super Bowl XLIX... *if you are a wild card,to win the Super Bowl, you need to win four games,or 16 quarters... remember 2010,the Packers did play 16 quarters, and won Super Bowl XLV??? i never forget that... so who cares??? get in,and it is a crapshoot...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score,and comments...
Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 9,HC Sochi 2... the Train steamrolled to a 7-0 lead and demolished HC Sochi... they scored six goals,in 13:05,of playing time,in the second period... Former Red Wings' player Cory Emmerton scored the last goal, for HC Sochi...

Red Wings' game score, and comments... what a stinkfest...
Maple Leafs 4, Red Wings 1... the Red Wings look like a team who does not care about this game, against the Maple Leafs... thirteen turnovers have directly led to the two goal spread,in the current score... they look half asleep... Toronto has out-played the Red Wings tonight, and it has been a very ugly game... i usually do the commentary after the games that i watch, but it appears the Red Wings have basically mailed this game in,tonight... an empty net goal ended this stinkfest... UGH!!!!!!!!!

Red Wings' game,and comments...
Panthers 3,Red Wings 2,shootout... Red Wings got a point, and fourteen of sixteen points on an eight game homestand... tied with Tampa Bay for tops in the Eastern Conference,as i type this...

yesterday's Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score...
Severstal 2,Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 1... the Train ran out of steam in third period...
Wednesday, December 10, 2014
commentary...
James Reimer, goaltender for the Maple Leafs, had an amazing game in goal, against the Red Wings... he was a stonewall in the first two periods, when honestly, the Red Wings were shredding the Maple Leafs' team defense, and should have been up 4,or,5-0,if not the best game that Reimer has had, this year,or,at least, since he was a rookie,period... hat is off to him... Gustav Nyquist scored his 13th team-leading goal, for the only tally of the Red Wings,tonight... Red Wings got a much-needed point,in the standings... even with this shootout,as i type this, the Red Wings are tops,in the Eastern Conference, with 40 points, and second in the NHL,only three points behind the Anaheim Ducks...
Red Wings' game score,and comment...
Maple Leafs 2,Red Wings 1,shootout... in a good game,Red Wings got a much needed point...
Red Wings' news...
Maple Leafs/Red Wings,tonight... the Red Wings play Toronto,in Toronto, for second time,Saturday... they play the Florida Panthers,Friday,in Detroit,so it is not a true home and home series between the Maple Leafs and the Red Wings...

NHL financial issues...
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman(not my favorite person) says that for the 2015-2016 NHL season, the salary cap projection will be around $73 million for all NHL teams... who cares, for now???

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 3,Hurricanes 1... Tomas Tatar scored twice, and Pavel Datsyuk also netted a goal,as the Red Wings came out flying in the second game of a two game weekend(they beat the New York Rangers, last night,3-2)and beat the Carolina Hurricanes,3-1,tonight... they played two great scoring periods, and then a solid defensive third period;scoring twice in the late first period, and was up,3-0,when the Hurricanes scored their only goal, about with three minutes left in the second period, and then Carolina tried to pump up their team offense in third period, but the Red Wings shut the Hurricanes down,in a really solid defensive third period...
yesterday's Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score...
CSKA 4,Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 0... the Train derailed after a pounding by CSKA,in Moscow... Jan Mursak, who played for the Red Wings in 2011-12,scored a goal for CSKA...
Saturday, December 6, 2014
Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 3,Rangers 2... after the Rangers scored twice,in the first period, the Red Wings out-played the Rangers the rest of the game... a wild third period, the Red Wings killed off two high-sticking penalties(one drew blood,so it was a four minute power play),and two two man advantages(one for 47 seconds, and another for 1:49)... in fact, one of the Red Wings' players broke his stick, and could not get to the bench for another stick,so basically the last two man advantage, was actually a two man and a half man advantage, for the Rangers ... all three penalties happened back to back to back, and the Red Wings would not cave in for that elusive third goal, for the Rangers.and "the Joe" was jumping, with 20,066 obviously happy and cheering fans... Darren Helm scored his third goal,in last two games, with the game winning goal,in that wild third period... it is the first victory for the Red Wings over the Rangers, since 2011...
Thursday, December 4, 2014
commentary...
why do the San Jose Sharks look like an omelette that is barely cooked? they are 12-10-7,tenth place in the Western Conference, nine points behind the Anaheim Ducks, and only eleven points ahead of the Edmonton Oilers, who are 29th in the NHL,and fighting for the first overall draft pick,in the 2015 NHL Draft... i am not saying that the Sharks are bad,but to tell you the truth, the Sharks should not be in tenth place,in the Western Conference... you can say that the Sharks have gotten off to a slow start, but for a team used to getting off to flying starts in the regular season, the Sharks are an enigma... there are grumbles in the South Bay that both general manager Doug Wilson, and head coach Todd McLellan should be fired, that even national sports news, are reporting them... i have said for years that the Sharks should clean out the front office, and this season,so far, points out if the team does very little in player signings, over the off-season(and they did),when almost everyone else improved in the Pacific Division, you get what has happened, this season,to the Sharks,so far??? they have a talented roster, but they did not improve their secondary scoring(third and fourth line, along with their defensive depth) over the off-season,so you have a very inconsistent team,so far... so,what is up,Sharks??? so far,i do not know...

Jean Believau, ten time Stanley Cup champion with the Montreal Canadiens, and Hockey Hall of Fame member passed away,today... prayers and condolences go out to his family... deep respect, and a hat tip to a hockey great...
Red Wings' game score,and comments...
Panthers 4,Red Wings 3... an ugly game to watch, and the Red Wings got two late goals to make it close, but the team was not playing on all cylinders... only the sixth regulation loss of the season, and only the second regulation loss in last eleven games... know what an omelette looks like without frying it,and you get what the game was for the Red Wings,tonight...
Red Wings' news...
Florida Panthers/Red Wings,tonight... fingers crossed for the playing of the game, because noted major power outage...

commentary...
note:because of the afternoon's Green Bay Packers/New England Patriots game, which i noted earlier as a 26-21 Packers win,i just saw the replay of the Red Wings/Canucks game... well, thirty one seconds into the game, the power, and lights went out on one side of Joe Louis Arena ice surface,so after a thirty three minute delay, the Red Wings rolled with two goals,in the first period(Niklas Kronwall, and Gustav Nyquist),and in the second period,Pavel Datsyuk scored the first of his two goals,to make it 3-1,and then Danny DeKeyser scored to make it 4-2,and then to top off the scoring,Datsyuk used an old curling motion,to score a long range empty net goal... Linden Vey scored twice for the Canucks, and the Canucks sandwiched a Shawn Matthias goal early in third period in-between Vey's two goals, but it was not enough to beat the win-hungry Red Wings......
comments...
Vancouver Canucks/Red Wings, this morning... note:the only game today,in the NHL... because of the Packers/Patriots game,i will see the game on replay(a strange happening,i may say)... i am now laughing...
Saturday, November 29, 2014
commentary...
as of right now, before today's games, the Red Wings are in third place,in the Atlantic Division, with 31 points... the top three teams,in each division, automatically make the Stanley Cup playoffs... Red Wings have won five of last six games, and in December, they have fourteen games, ten of those games, are at Joe Louis Arena.. now,it is time to make hay at home to cement the team's place in the playoff run, because points in October, and the early months count as much as points in March/April... so make hay,Red Wings!!!

Red Wings' game score,and comments...
Red Wings 5,Devils 4,overtime... after a miserable first period, and first minute of second period, the Red Wings were down 4-1,and looking like dog meat, but the Red Wings scored four straight goals, including a shootout winning goal by Gustav Nyquist... Petr Mrazek won a gritty game,in the shootout, stopping all three Devils' skaters...
blog statement...

Red Wings' game score,and comments...
Red Wings 5,Flyers 2... after the first ten minutes, the Red Wings rolled, and with the second best defense in the Eastern Conference, behind the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Red Wings, and Pavel Datsyuk, who scored two goals(including the game winning goal),scored thrice in second period, and broke open an one-all game... not enough Flyers' offense in this blowout, and a dominant game for the Red Wings,period...
Tuesday, November 25, 2014
Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score...
Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 3,Slovan 1... three straight goals in second period, and third period iced the game for the Train...
commentary...
two goals by Stephen Weiss, and three goals in the second period gave the Red Wings just enough momentum to defeat Ottawa, last night... a great glove save,by Jimmy Howard just before the third period(end of game)buzzer finally iced game, because, even though the Red Wings had a 4-1 lead in third period, two goals, one in last thirty five seconds, almost gave Ottawa a point in a game that seemed out of reach for the Senators most of the night, was almost a Red Wings' collapse that was epic, but not for that great glove save,by Howard... the Red Wings need to play better,in the third period, and that is fact...

Maple Leafs 4,Red Wings 1... Red Wings came out very slowly, and got out-played by Toronto,period... if you like amateur ice skating, you would love this game... if you are a true fan of hockey, this was a snoozefest, and a boring game... oh,my my... UGH!!!!!!!

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 4,Jets 3... Tomas Tatar scored two goals, including the game winning goal, with 4:50 left in game, giving the Red Wings their first lead in the game, and icing the game, for the Red Wings... Justin Abdelkader, and Johan Franzen scored a beautiful coast to coast goal, sweeping in from the right side of goal, shooting high, and over the shoulder of the Jets' goaltender Ondrej Pavelec... Dustin Byfuglien,Adam Lowry, and Mathieu Perreault scored for the Jets, who played tough at home, but lost steam late in the third period(basically stopped skating, and were beat to most of the pucks,in the last ten minutes)... two big points...
Wednesday, November 19, 2014
Tuesday, November 18, 2014
Red Wings' game score,and comments...
Red Wings 5,Blue Jackets 0... three goals in third period(two of them,in 1:12),broke open game,as they steamrolled the Blue Jackets... Jimmy Howard stopped 28 shots, for the shutout... five different Red Wings scored goals,as the Blue Jackets looked flat, and never had any spunk in the way that they played tonight...
hockey fun in Buffalo...
the crowd in Buffalo was very very small(about 2,000,if that)for the game between the Sabres, and the San Jose Sharks... reason:close to four feet of snow,in Buffalo... well, one of the Sabres' staff tweeted,"we are underway in Hoth"... if you are a STAR WARS fan,you get the great joke...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score...
Torpedo 2,Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 0... two goals, one in second period, and in third period shut down the Train...
Saturday, November 15, 2014
game score...
Blue Jackets 2,Sharks 1... how do you lose to a team who was 5-10-1 before your second game, twice? Sharks found a way...
commentary...
honestly, the San Jose Sharks have not done anything great this season, and there are rumblings that the Sharks need to fire their head coach,Todd McLellan... as they are 9-7-2,they play the Columbus Blue Jackets,today... Columbus may be 5-10-1,losing nine straight games,in the process, but they are getting their number one goaltender(Sergei Bobrovsky,4-4,when healthy),and Artem Anisimov back in the lineup, but they have eight players out with an injury,so the Sharks may have a good game,in store, but the Sharks lost to the Blue Jackets,5-4,October 23rd... the Sharks did beat the Tampa Bay Lightning,2-1,two days ago,on their seven game road trip, but lost to the Florida Panthers, and the Chicago Blackhawks,on this road trip... i do not what to think of the Sharks;good team, one game, then a bad team, the next game(inconsistent,to say the least),but at 9-7-2,they need to beat the Blue Jackets, like a good team should,or are the Sharks a bad team today??? who knows, right now???
Friday, November 14, 2014
Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 4,Blackhawks 1... Chicago played like a slug in mud,as the Red Wings poured salt, and dominated the game... Jimmy Howard stopped 25 of 26 shots, and had one of his best games,of the season... Johan Franzen had the game winning goal, and for the Blackhawks,Patrick Kane had the Blackhawks' lone goal... simply,Howard has been the best player for the Red Wings, this season...
Thursday, November 13, 2014

commentary...
sorry, folks, for the delay, but here it is:last night's game against the Red Wings was a game that Steven Stamkos,of the Tampa Bay Lightning, scored two goals, and the Red Wings had to play catch up after a very slow start, the Red Wings had too many penalties, and fell behind 3-1,but the Red Wings refuse to quit, and tied game with 7.7 seconds left, with Gustav Nyquist scoring the game-tying goal... Niklas Kronwall, and Johan Franzen both had a goal and assist, for the Red Wings, and the Red Wings got a much needed point...

Red Wings' game score,and comments...
Red Wings 4,Devils 2... Red Wings basically steamrolled, and shut down the Devils, scoring two goals,in both first and second periods, and then smothered the Devils,by not allowing not many shots in the crease, and let goaltender Jimmy Howard catch everything that he could... the first shot for the Devils,in the game got past Howard, but then the Red Wings got really offensive,in scoring goals, including two power play goals, for the clutch win, snapping a three game losing streak,in the process...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score,and comment...
Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 4,Traktor 3,shootout... the Train hung on to win in a shootout, after losing a two goal advantage twice(2-0,and 3-1)...

Red Wings game score,and comments...
Rangers 4,Red Wings 3,overtime... Red Wings tied game in last ten seconds of game, for a point... not bad for a team who last scored a goal,in 2011-2012,in New York...
Red Wings' trivia...
before tonight, when was the last time that the Red Wings scored a goal,in New York, against the Rangers??? answer:March 21,2012,the Red Wings lost that night,to the Rangers,2-1... Henrik Zetterberg scored that goal... by the way,the Red Wings just scored twice,in thirteen seconds,to tie game at two, against the Rangers...
commentary...
after one period, the Red Wings do not suck, but they have scored only three goals,in the month of November, and one goal in last four periods... the last two times in New York, the Red Wings scored zero goals(both games last season),so it has been a major goal drought for the Red Wings, especially New York, against the Rangers... when Henrik Lundquist had a zero G.A.A,against the Red Wings,in the last year, you know that the Red Wings are in trouble,tonight... come on,Red Wings!!!!!! just score a goal...
commentary...
the Senators game last night was a good game for both goaltenders, but the Red Wings did not score any goals, but one, because the Senators played a very good defensive game... the Red Wings have had a hard time scoring goals, but their team defense has been very, very good most of the season, but losing two games in a row, including one in a shootout, which sucks,period...

Red Wings' game score and comments...
Sabres 3,Red Wings 2,shootout... a disallowed goal in overtime(Johan Franzen,in the crease-goaltender interference)cost Red Wings a point, but they do get a point in Buffalo... you can not win them all!!!!

Red Wings' game score,and comments...
Red Wings 5,Kings 2... Gustav Nyquist, and Pavel Datsyuk scored twice,as Red Wings scored four goals,in 9:23,in first period, and cruised to a win... Tomas Tatar had game winning goal... in October, the Red Wings were 6-2-2,not bad a start for a team that is supposed to struggle to make the Stanley Cup playoffs... way too early to get excited, but i do have a smile...
Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score...
Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 4,Dinamo Riga 1... two late goals,in third period, iced game for the Train...

comments...
the Red Wings simply out-played the Capitals,in third period... Pavel Datsyuk scored insurance goal, with just under a minute left in game, with a shot on goal from about 20 feet away(above the thigh pad,and the elbow)that was through a window that was about four inches square, and with the puck being three inches round,by one inch flat,it was the best shot i have seen this season,by anyone... what a shot!!!!!!! he is back playing after a separated shoulder, but is not 100%,in game shape,yet... two years ago, when Sidney Crosby,of the Pittsburgh Penguins, was out with a concussion, the Hockey News came out with a poll,"who was the best player in the NHL?" guess who was on top of that poll??? you guessed it:Pavel Datsyuk... in my opinion,Crosby, and Datsyuk are number one,and one A,in the NHL,on that list... it all depends who you like, because both are simply great...

Red Wings 4,Penguins 3,overtime... with two goals,in last 2:40,(scored by Henrik Zetterberg, and Niklas Kronwall, exactly two minutes apart),Red Wings tied game, and in overtime,Justin Abdelkader scored the game winning goal(GWG)... basically, the Penguins dominated the first 57 minutes, lost control, and then lost game,in overtime... almost makes up for the referees' screwup, against the Anaheim Ducks... ALMOST!!!!!!

Canadiens 2,Red Wings 1,overtime... a disallowed goal by Pavel Datsyuk,in the third period, proves to be the catalyst for Montreal,as they score two goals in last four minutes,to win game, over the Red Wings... Carey Price did a veteran move by leaning into Justin Abdelkader, causing goaltender interference,as Datsyuk scored what appeared to be the Red Wings' second goal of the night... however, referees called off goal to keep it 1-0,Red Wings, and then Montreal took advantage of a very good third period, and overtime, for the Canadiens... now i know why i dislike the Canadiens... the broadcast of the game was so boring, because the camera angles did not show too much passing of the puck, because where the camera was in Montreal was too high up,and it was like showing ants running around on ice... Red Wings got a point,on a night that, even though they played very well,if it was not for the stellar play of goaltender Jimmy Howard, the Red Wings get nada,tonight...
Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score...
Amur 5,Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 4,shootout... Lugin Dmitry had two goals, and the shootout winner, for Amur... it is not an official hat trick, but he had a great game...

commentary...
like i said a long time ago,"a journey through the game of hockey, and for the pure love of the game",i watched the jubilant Edmonton Oilers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning,3-2,as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the game winning goal past Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop, with 3:25,left in regulation, for their very first win of the 2014-2015 NHL season... Edmonton may be a young team, who may not make the Stanley Cup playoffs, but to see a team jump for joy,and win their first game of the season was worth watching the game... i was honestly rooting for the Oilers, and really smiled when they won the game... that is the beautiful game of hockey, and a real journey,too...
correction...
i looked at the NHL.com website, and braindead me thought that the Detroit/Montreal game was tonight, when in fact it is tomorrow... sorry folks... i will correct the mistake...

a man with a plan, then he executed it...
Henrik Zetterberg had five points in two wins against the Maple Leafs, this weekend, for the Red Wings... yesterday,he had four assists in a 4-1 win, last night, and tonight he had the game winning goal(GWG),in a 1-0 win against the Maple Leafs... he was critical of his own play before the weekend, and then he went off this weekend, with five points,in two games... WAY TO GO,Henrik!!!!!!!!!!
Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 1,Maple Leafs 0,overtime... with ten seconds left,in overtime, captain Henrik Zetterberg scored with a rocket from about 35 feet, off the goalpost,to win a typical Maple Leafs/Red Wings game-a real dogfight... both Jonas Gustavsson(for the Red Wings),and Jonathan Bernier(for the Maple Leafs)had outstanding games in net,period... what a game!!!!!!!!

Detroit, and Red Wings financial news(as Joe Louis Arena goes)...
according to Crain's Detroit Business,a business web site in Michigan, when the Red Wings move into their new arena,Joe Louis Arena will be demolished and the land will be given to a creditor,Financial Guaranty Insurance Corporation,or FGIC,for a development of a hotel and other things,as part of the city's bankruptcy trial...

Red Wings' game score...
Bruins 3,Red Wings 2,shootout... Red Wings got a much needed point, played a good game, and Jimmy Howard had a very very good game,so not so bad(37 out of 39 saves)... Red Wings 1-1-1,for the season... shootout was over quick, with two shootout goals for the Bruins,on two shots, but honestly, the Bruins needed the game more than the Red Wings,so i am not so bummed...
Red Wings' news,and comments...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score,and comments...
Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 5,Severstal 3... the Train went off to a three to nothing lead, and then pounded Severstal into submission... ever try to read Russian??? it is easy to tell what the teams are but reading Russian is not easy... trying to find what are the mascots of the KHL teams is not easy... Severstal has a rounded off triangle,of blue, red, and white,as their symbol, and a wildcat(looks like),as their mascot...

Red Wings' game score...
Red Wings 2,Bruins 1... Justin Abdelkader, and Gustav Nyquist scored a goal apiece,as Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard played on his head, late in third period,to beat the Bruins... Johan Franzen also had two assists, for a two point night...
light another candle on the cake!!!!!!
Happy Birthday,Red Wings' captain Henrik Zetterberg... he is 34 years old,today...
comments...
as the Red Wings were introduced as a team, there was a surprise for them:Pavel Datsyuk skated out in uniform to give the fans a thrill... i guess he wanted to do it,as he is not supposed to play until late October,or early November, because of a separated shoulder, but honestly,it was just a thrill to see him skate out on the ice... normally, you see injured players in a suit...

game score of note...
Sharks 4,Kings 0... Sharks' goaltender Antti Niemi shut down the defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, for his 28th career shutout,as the Kings fell flat on their collective faces... three goals,in second period, and two of those,in fourteen seconds, doomed the Kings... note:i had to turn off the sound, because the NBC announce team was so biased towards the Kings that it was almost unbearable to listen to even five minutes of them announcing the game... they have the worst announcers in the business,period...
commentary...
let us see how the San Jose Sharks fare tonight, after an unique offseason of chaos, against the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings... they will have to sit through the Stanley Cup Championship banner raising ceremony, tonight, before the game,in Los Angeles... really too bad... the last time these teams played,it was NHL history, and not good history, for the Sharks:they lost their first round series, after being up three games to zero,as the Kings complete their historic sweep,on route to the Stanley Cup...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score...
Dynamo Moscow 2,Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 0... two goals in last seven minutes, including an empty net goal, with seven seconds left,in game, doomed the Train...
KHL history, and note on NHL history...
Wojtek Wolski set the KHL record for the FASTEST hat trick,in 1:46,in a game for Torpedo against Sibir,yesterday... someone may believe that it is a slow time for three goals,in a game... by the way,the KHL has only been around six seasons(it is in its seventh season right now)... note:the fastest time for a NHL hat trick is twenty one seconds... it happened on March 23,1952,in New York, when the Chicago Black Hawks beat the Rangers,7-6... down 6-2,at the time,Bill Mosienko shot three pucks past goaltender Lorne Anderson... Mosienko is in the Hall of Fame...

i have a question about this Red Wings' team, because this is basically the same team,as last season... however last season's team was a basic M*A*S*H unit, with so many injuries that you,as a fan, never really knew what team would take the ice, from game to game... basically, flip a coin on whether the Red Wings make the Stanley Cup playoffs, for the 24th straight season...
preseason Red Wings' news...
Penguins/Red Wings,tonight... game six of preseason... note:Red Wings' captain Henrik Zetterberg says that this week is important for Daniel Alfordsson to decide whether he wants to play, and if his back is going to hold up in the long term... as of right now,he is unsigned... my opinion:if his back holds up,he will play, but it may take a couple weeks to have Alfordsson figure out if his back will hold up for a long season...

a look at the current Lokomotiv Jaroslavl team...
Lokomotiv Jaroslavl has gotten off to a very very bad start, winning only once,in five games, getting only one point(a shootout loss),in their four losses, and with three points for a win, they are in 12th in the Western Conference... i am a true fan of the team... the goaltender on the team is a former NHL backup by the name of Curtis Sanford, best known for his time playing for the St. Louis Blues, while in the NHL... Sergei Plotnikov is the best player on the team coming off a spectacular IIHF World Championship performance, for Russia... Geoff Platt, and a brother of Alexander Galimov, who died in a hospital, five days, after the 7/September/2011 Yak-42 crash that wiped out the previous Lokomotiv Jaroslavl team,Emil Galimov, who is also a 2013 San Jose Sharks draft pick,is on the team... in four of the last five years(they missed the 2011-2012 season,of course),the team has finished in the top four teams in the KHL,including third last year... in their team history, they have won the championship three times, and being runners-up in 2008-2009... knowing their team history, they should improve, with forty nine games, left in the regular season... GO TRAIN....

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score...
Ak Bars 3,Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 2,shootout... if you went to this hockey game,in Kazan Russia, actually one of the oldest, and historic cities, after the twenty eight minute mark,in which Ak Bars and Lokomotiv Jaroslavl swapped goals,in a 2-2 tie,you could have gone to sleep,or even walked the city(you would have had more fun),then watch the end of this game... in the text written down for the third period, there is absolutely nothing... in the eight round shootout,Oskar Moller scored twice, including the shootout winner, for Ak Bars,to mercifully end this snoozefest for the crowd, that must have gone to sleep before the end of the game... note:i have to figure how the KHL runs their shootouts, because two players, one of each team, shot twice...
comments...
i will note the results later,of the Lokomotiv Jaroslavl/Ak Bars(KHL)game that has not started yet,in Russia...

NHL news...
NHL tweaked rule 38.4(finally)allowing broader discretion on "intent to blow whistle" calls in accordance to pucks going into the net... an example of this "major screwup" happening was on November 18,2009 when Dallas Stars played the Red Wings when Brad May shot a backhand shot short side into the net,and the referees disallowed the goal that would have tied the game at two, claiming that the whistle had been blown, when the audio, and video did indicate that it was not the case,at all... in fact, the puck was in the net for a good two or three seconds before the whistle was blown... the Stars won the game,3-1,that November night,in 2009... funny thing is that the video of the goal,on Yahoo, was labeled,"the screw of the year",by someone... it was that bad,folks... another funny thing is that i really remember that goal,honestly... it was one of many disallowed goals and major refereeing screwups that happened between the two teams at that time, including a quite memorable shootout goal allowed by Mike Leggo, from 30 feet away from the net, when in fact there was a referee that actually bumped into the goal, trying to see if the puck was in past Jimmy Howard, and he waved his arms in a safe motion, indicating that it was no goal... even the announcers for the Stars could not believe it,saying once that the shootout was going to continue, and then they said that the game was over... they were even stunned by the call by Mike Leggo... i called Leggo at that time something that was unmentionable, and,i believe,i said that he was the worst referee in the NHL,among other things that i can not mention on here, even now...
Lokomotiv Jaroslavl game score...
Metallurg Magnitogorsk 4,Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 1... the defending Gagarin Cup champions steamrolled Lokomotiv Jaroslavl, before a late goal by Lokomotiv Jaroslavl broke up the shutout... Danis Zaripov scored the first two goals for the defending champions...

commentary...
in a recent interview,Pavel Datsyuk,of the Red Wings, said that he hopes the Red Wings is not bitten by the injury bug too hard this upcoming season, because they basically have the same roster,as last season... this is good and also bad... last season, the Red Wings were a walking M*A*S*H unit, having as many as twelve players on the injured/reserve list,at one time, and most of the year, they had ten players on the injured/reserve list, including Datsyuk, and Henrik Zetterberg, their two big guns on the team... the good element of the injured/reserve list of players is that fact that the players on the Grand Rapids Griffiths (the Red Wings' American Hockey League affiliate)got major exposure in the NHL... in fact, twelve different players had game time in the Motor City, with the Red Wings, and nine players had their NHL debuts, most since 1991,when the Red Wings had thirteen players make their NHL debuts, that year... even though, the Red Wings have made the Stanley Cup playoffs twenty three straight years, they had only thirty nine regulation wins, and Datsyuk(a knee injury)and Zetterberg(back surgery)played in only about 54 games, apiece, before major injuries took them out of the lineup... now looking forward to this season, general manager Ken Holland has not signed any major free agent during this off-season,and does not seemed to be panicked about it... the fan base, however,is not too happy about the inactivity of the team over the off-season,period... the young players on the roster is actually a very good thing, but the inexperience of those players is also a major drawback, for the Red Wings,as they go through this upcoming NHL season... if the Red Wings can be a relatively healthy team, they will be a very good team, this year... let us talk about the Stanley Cup playoff series against the Boston Bruins, even though the Red Wings got Pavel Datsyuk back into the lineup,he was not 100% healthy(he was struggling through most of the second half of the season, including the Sochi Olympics, with a very painful/injured knee),but he won game one with a highlight goal,1-0,no other Red Wings' player had a very good playoff series... that is where the inexperience of the team came into focus, because of the experience of the Bruins, during the past few playoff runs paid a dividend to the Bruins, against the young, but undermanned, and inexperienced Red Wings, because the Red Wings played poor defense, and had a non-existent offense, during the Stanley Cup playoffs, scoring only six goals during the series with the Bruins,in five games, losing four games to one... back to Holland,he has done very little to change the roster, since Nicklas Lidstrom retired, except improve the Griffiths' roster, which does help, and the free agents from last off-season did very little to help the main roster,so the fans are more than a little nervous, about this upcoming season... i guess Holland is hoping that the roster remains intact, and last year's free agents(i.e. Stephan Weiss, and Daniel Alfordsson, who remain unsigned, but could sign during training camp-contempting retirement)have much better seasons... Weiss had four goals in twenty six games, before being on the injured/reserve list most of the season... Alfordsson had very good numbers last season, but also was injured a few games last season, like most everyone on the roster,at one time,or another... so what team is going to show up-the very good team, whose roster can be a playoff team,or is it the walking M*A*S*H unit, that was the Detroit Red Wings, last season??? simply flip a coin, and see for yourself...

commentary...
the funny thing about the NHL and their collective front offices over the off-season is that things change, and some general managers talk about change... there are two teams that basically did nothing to help their teams(the Red Wings, and the Sharks)... more later on the Red Wings, and i really do have to say something about the Red Wings(i am not happy about them)... however, this is about the Sharks right now,so here i go... let me take you back to last season,as a backdrop:the Sharks had a great regular season(111 points),and blitzed the Los Angeles Kings in the first three games,in their first round series, and making Jonathan Quick look like a paper goaltender, but then the Sharks' scoring dried up like chaff, scoring only four,or five, goals,in last four games.that absolutely doomed the Sharks,in an epic team collapse... the front office then talking a good game about "rebuilding" the team in the aftermath of being the fourth team in NHL history to lose a best of seven game series, after being up 3-0,in games, and then the Sharks signed some enforcers, traded away some good talent, and did not re-sign some other talent, and signed no good players,in free agency... the main reason that the Sharks lost to (now)the defending Stanley Cup Champions Los Angeles Kings was that their stars stopped scoring goals, and their third and fourth lines did not pick up the slack in the scoring, and a good team like the Kings did make adjustments in stopping the Sharks... the Sharks still have not fixed the main problem(the lack of secondary scoring)that helps to make good teams great teams... no doubt that the Sharks are a playoff team this upcoming season, but regular seasons only count because of playoff seeding, basically, and are the Sharks serious Stanley Cup contenders??? well, people talk, and teams play, and unfortunately, the Sharks can talk a good game about being contending for the Stanley Cup,but the front office are not the players on the ice playing, and there are too many teams in the Western Conference, who are proven, and better playoff teams than the Sharks, right now... unfortunately, for the Sharks, all the talk in the world will not change that...

a funny thing happened to the way to a Chicago Blackhawks/Detroit Red Wings game in Chicago,on September 26,2007... the owner of the Blackhawks had died the previous off-season,one William Wadsworth Wirth... no disrespect meant to the family, but Wirtz had a nickname,"Dollar Bill",and it was well deserved... he absolutely refused to broadcast Blackhawks' home games, and banned the selling of peanuts outside the stadium, among other things,so when then-general manager Dale Tallon gave an eulogy for Wirtz that night before the game, there is video, and audio of what happened:they booed him out of the building, and even booed the moment of silence for Wirtz,"a great Chicagoan",in Tallon's own words... lucky for him,the arena happened to be dark,or it would have funnier to see things thrown on the ice...

NHL news,and commentary...
veteran goaltender J.S. Giguere has announced his retirement from the NHL... why mention it??? i still remember his performance in the 2003 Stanley Cup playoffs against every team he faced,in the Western Conference, including a four game sweep,of the defending Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings,by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, allowing only four goals, with two shutouts, against the Red Wings... he set a (still)NHL record low one goal against the Minnesota Wild,in a four game series, later on,that playoff year... even though, the Ducks lost in seven games to the New Jersey Devils,in the Stanley Cup Finals,Giguere won the Conn Smythe Trophy,as Stanley Cup MVP,with an amazing total of five shutouts,in 2003... a personal note:i "hated" Giguere for sweeping the Red Wings, that year, but as i look back now,it was a great playoff series of games, for him... i deeply wish the best for him,and respectfully tip my hat to him...

people have taken the "Ice Bucket Challenge" to help ALS research, and that is great, but the Los Angeles Kings head coach Darryl Sutter, and coaching staff have added a twist to it-holding the Stanley Cup while doing it... way to go!!!!! i believe that i will donate $100 to it,next month, and avoid the ice bucket, because while doing it is great picture, you are supposed to show it on video, challenge someone, and donate $10,to ALS research, which is a too small amount to donate...

folks,i am very sorry that i have not been on here too often,lately... this time of the NHL calendar basically is "dead",and there is very little to really talk about,so i have taken some time off... this summer has been horrible, because the changing weather has given me many cluster sinus and migraine headaches, and they are very, very painful... i will be online very shortly, like a tornado of activity, but until then,it will be like it has been... however,i love the beautiful game of hockey, and am a true blue fan of the NHL,and the Detroit Red Wings... i hope that the NHL starts soon(laughing),because it has been quite boring!!!!!

commentary...
there is an article, and an interview,on NHL.com,with San Jose Sharks' head coach Todd McLellan explaining from the club's viewpoint on what is going on,in San Jose... unfortunately,in my opinion,it is the same thing for year after year... it is changing small things, over and over, and expecting a different result every year, but things do not change too much... the Sharks have a very good core of players, but they still lack secondary scoring(third, and fourth line scoring),they are not getting any younger on the defensive blue line, and their goaltending depth is not what it should be,but again, this time of year, you can say the same thing about goaltending,in the NHL... they are a playoff team, but there are too many teams that has improved on paper, and their journey through the Western Conference will not get any easier, because they are clearly not the best team in the Pacific Division, with the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings,in their division...

what is going on,in Detroit???
anyone has phone number to Red Wings' general manager Ken Holland??? i have a shaken head syndrome, because i can not figure what the Red Wings is doing this off-season,because they are a team that has had very few playoff wins, since the retirement of Nicklas Lidstrom, and they have done very little in free agency, and will be basically the same team that struggled to get into the Stanley Cup playoffs, last season, and then got steamrolled by the Boston Bruins,in five games, winning their only playoff game,1-0,but then having the team get bulldozed, with only Pavel Datsyuk playing like normal, and everybody else taking a real nap throughout their series, with the Bruins... if you are a real fan,of the Red Wings, you must be shaking your head... i am,folks!!!!!
commentary...
a team with 111 points last season, and a team that had an epic collapse, against the Los Angeles Kings,in the first round of last season's Stanley Cup playoffs... a team who has had seventeen playoff appearances,in twenty years, but has won only one Western Conference Finals' series,in two straight years,in recent years... now, they are trying to blow smoke up the fans' collective "skirts",saying that they are redefining the term "rebuilding", in trying to get fans' season tickets requests up this off-season... before you believe that i do not believe that the Sharks are not a playoff team,in the top-heavy Western Conference, you are dead wrong... however, they still have no clue on how to build a consistent playoff series winner, because they even have me confused in trying to rate the team's chances, next season, but honestly, their team history of playoff failure, and collapse makes me shake my head,in wonder... flip a coin,on what is going on,in San Jose???
comments...
i will catch up on the NHL,starting tomorrow... note:the KHL starts the same day as the Packers play the Seahawks,on September 4th,2014... i really do not know what the league will do about the team in Donetsk,Ukraine, because of the turmoil around the city...

commentary...
Washington Capitals' head coach Barry Trotz coached the Nashville Predators for years, and was known for team defense... he was their first head coach, and the problem with Nashville over the years was that their team was difficult to play(examples:Red Wings/Predators games,in general-games that were tough to play)... the Capitals were known for an explosive offense, but their goaltending, and team defense was very bad and,sometimes,non-existent... honestly, that will change because Trotz is a very, very good defensive coach... watch out for the Capitals, this season...

true blue, and beautiful game of hockey...
the beautiful game of hockey is quite easy to play, but, honestly, was very, very hard... the best players are in the NHL,but there are other leagues around the world that were very good... remembering that the game started with a kid shooting a puck, ball, and other things into a goal, when very small on very cold days outside,or on an ice rink,indoors... people may see the NHL player on ice skating, but attention was given day by day, doing small things that may seem to be very trivial, and do not seem much to other people, but to the players in the NHL,and other players,in other leagues, the small things mean so much to them... they may be ingrained in them almost to the point that people may not think that they are important to the player, but the small things do count more than you will ever know... that is true blue, and beautiful to watch, even when the game may be 1-0...
correction...
i corrected the slight mistake,on previous post:Red Wings won the Stanley Cup in 1955,and not again, until 1997,42 years between Stanley Cups...
Red Wings' history...
on December 26,1996,the Red Wings played the Washington Capitals, and beat them in overtime,5-4... funny thing is that only one Red Wings' player scored that night... it honestly should have read in the newspaper the next day:Sergei Fedorov 5,Capitals 4,because he scored all Red Wings' goals, including the game winner,at 2:39,of overtime... later on that season, the epic Red Wings/Avalanche brawl happened on March 26,1997,and Patrick Roy said that night that the Red Wings had just won the Stanley Cup,because that he meant that the Red Wings were a team that was talented, and one that simply refused to back down... only months later, the Red Wings won the first Stanley Cup,in 42 years, dating back to 1955*,and is the last Stanley Cup winner to repeat,as they won the Stanley Cup,again,in 1997-1998... * oops,i accidently stated it wrong...

NHL news,and comments...
a real quirk in the NHL.com's annual 30 in 30 (teams in days, folks)look at the clubs of the NHL,for the 2013-2014 season, and that the look at the Red Wings happens on my fifty fifth birthday(August 20th)... what a birthday gift!!!!!!

the outlook for the San Jose Sharks:miserable!!!!!!!
the front office and general manager Doug Wilson,of the San Jose Sharks have had basically a wasted off-season,because the fanbase has been told by the actions of the inept front office that the Sharks are trying to rebuild, but the players that the team have signed, and even traded, are a tough bunch, but the scoring punch that the Sharks need, and have needed, have not been addressed one bit... however, all the tough guys, and now a cheer squad, named the Ice Girls, will not soothe the irritable fanbase, who pay top dollar to cheer the team who does deserve a Stanley Cup,and unfortunately, the Sharks at least,in one article, are being lumped together with the Atlanta Thrashers, and Quebec Nordiques,as a team, who have teams,in case of the Thrashers,a team who,for many years, was a team who had talent, but only one playoff berth(and a first round sweep by the New York Rangers),along with very poor attendance, and in the case of the Nordiques,a playoff team who got eliminated year after year,in early rounds,by the Montreal Canadiens,and/or the Buffalo Sabres, and that is not too good... rebuilding the Sharks should be the ultimate goal, but honestly, signing John Scott, and re-signing Scott Hannah, and trading who the Sharks did,and let go,in the process, does not solve the main problem that the Sharks have, and that is secondary scoring that absolutely killed the Sharks' chances, against the Los Angeles Kings,in the first round, last season... so,being a fan of the Sharks this season means that you may boo the team more often this season, because the team will not be as good as last season... who is to blame for that??? general manager Doug Wilson, and a real inept front office,period...

commentary...
the NHL is between the 2014 NHL Draft and training camp, which is usually a little boring, but this year,is a snorefest, because the Red Wings have done very little in free agency, and in simple player signings... i am very pissed off as a Red Wings' fan, because i rather talk about NHL hockey than have a snorefest, but there is very little to talk about... every team in Atlantic Division/Eastern Conference have improved,on paper and that does not include the Red Wings... i could get extremely pissed, but i wish that someone in the Red Wings' front office would do something, but not a peep from anyone.... too bad....

a men's league game in Buffalo,with a big difference....
in Buffalo,New York,a men's league team called the Piranhas rolled another league team from Essex St. Pub,13-5... a hometown player, visiting from Chicago, came home, and decided to play in the men's league game... should not make that big of a difference, right? however, when that player scored "the golden goal",to win the Stanley Cup in 2010,you are going to make that big of a difference... Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Kane came home to Buffalo,to visit, and the Piranhas won the game, when he had five goals, and five assists, and he was not the top goal scorer that night... NBC 2014 NHL schedule, and comments...
NBC will broadcast fifteen Red Wings' games(about average, for a season),however, they will broadcast only four Canadian(as a country)games, this upcoming season(two Toronto Maple Leafs' games, and two Montreal Canadiens' games)... my opinion:what a crock of manure!!!!!! for your info, there are six Canadian teams, and not one Western Canadian team on tap... what moron made up that schedule!!!!!!! way to go,NBC!!!!!!

Red Wings' news...
the Red Wings unveiled plans for a new arena, today, and it is supposed to be a sports and entertainment area for downtown Detroit, and the Red Wings want to complete the arena for the 2017 NHL season... shoveling dirt to break ground is expected sometime this fall...
my opinions,not yours...
sometimes, people may disagree with my opinions, about the NHL and NFL,BUT they are my opinions on my two blogs... i try not to be a "homer",but sometimes i am,because i love the Packers, and Red Wings... however,i really talk about the real beautiful game of true blue hockey, going back to childhood,in Canada,Europe, and other places, and if the Red Wings,and/or the Packers deserve criticism,i am the first to put the hammer down on how they play, whether they play well,or they stink(which is not too often)... people may disagree with my opinions, like i said earlier, but they are my opinions, and as far as i am concerned, they are the ones that really count... i may get criticism, and readjust my opinions, but not often does that happen(ha ha)...

commentary...
as a fan of the Red Wings,i have not heard a peep from the Red Wings' front office, and have not a clue on how the Red Wings will play this upcoming season,so honestly,i am mentally preparing myself for a season of strange things going on this season, but the fact that the Red Wings have done absolutely nothing of any detail in free agency does upset me,because the teams in the Atlantic Division/Eastern Conference have all improved on paper, except the Red Wings, but one fact that the Red Wings have in their favor is that they are getting healthier as a team(eleven players on injured reserve at their peak of injuries),and that the young players who played significant time last season, for the Red Wings, have all improved in their overall play... so i have no idea on how well,or badly, the Red Wings will play this upcoming season... anyone have a coin, for flipping???

the NHL is in between the 2014 NHL draft, and training camp... most teams have developmental hockey camps throughout the areas around the city that they are based in... the Red Wings have theirs in Traverse City,in the UP(Upper Peninsula),of Michigan... besides that, the NHL is in "dead time",which is boring... snorefest!!!

commentary...
if you are a fan of the San Jose Sharks(and my father is),general manager Doug Wilson has seemed to missed the proverbial memo on why the Sharks collapsed in an epic way, against the Los Angeles Kings, losing in seven games, after being up 3-0,in their first round series... first of all, most of their core players are aging, and have no movement clauses,in their contracts, and even though they are very good, age in the NHL is not a good thing... second on my list is the fact is that the Sharks are easier to play as a team than an egg of Silly Putty on a comic strip(Silly Putty comes in plastic eggs),with a core roster that has not been overhauled in years... the last two years, the Red Wings have had the same problem, but unlike the Sharks, the Red Wings have a very good farm system to improve their team, and the Red Wings got devastated with a rash of injuries last season... to go back to the major subject of this commentary,Wilson and head coach Todd McLellan built the Sharks to beat the Red Wings, and they did, unfortunately(for Red Wings' fans),but they forgot about the other 28 teams in the NHL... their coaching staff is very good, but they have not changed the way that they play the game, overall,in almost a decade, which is very poor in terms of the overall play of the NHL... question to the braintrust of any NHL team:would your team play a game like it was 2004,not 2014??? answer:no,because your team would be beat 90% of the time... Wilson has said that the Sharks are rebuilding as a team, but unfortunately, they are rebuilding the team like it was 2004,not 2014... the main reason that the Sharks lost to the Kings was a severe lack of secondary scoring(from the back end of the roster),and very lousy goaltending, and yet,if you look at who the Sharks have signed(and traded)this offseason, the problem still remains, because like i said earlier, the Sharks' front office has no clue on how to build a playoff series winner, let alone a Stanley Cup winner, and until they get a clue on how to do it,they will languish in stupid idiocy, and remain a playoff team(if that) that can not win anything, and stay far away from the Stanley Cup... i place the blame strictly on an inept general manager, and a coaching staff that has no clue on how to win,period... i honestly feel sorry for the Sharks' fanbase, because they are a rabid bunch of fans, who really deserve a legitimate shot at a Stanley Cup...

NHL news,and comments...
it is reported that Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney will undergo arthroscopic wrist surgery this week... he injured it during the playoffs... even though he had only one goal,in thirteen Stanley Cup playoff games,it is my opinion that there was more wrong with the Penguins offensively than Crosby's mystery injury,in stunning collapsing fashion(up 3-1,against the New York Rangers, then losing in seven games),during the Stanley Cup playoffs...

commentary...
i feel sorry for Steve Moore... he was a up and coming NHL player, until he got bulldozed and literally crushed into the ice,by Todd Bertuzzi, during a Canucks/Avalanche playoff series, back in 2004... that aside, for a moment, and that was the worst thing that i have ever seen in a hockey game, his long-standing lawsuit against the then owners of the Vancouver Canucks, and Bertuzzi is scheduled to begin shortly, and there are reports that the long-standing lawsuit amount was for $38 million... well,Moore and his blood-sucking attorneys now want $68 million, instead from Bertuzzi et al. like i said earlier,i feel empathy, and sympathy for Moore,on a very personal level, and always will, but folks,in the ten years of Bertuzzi's NHL career,he has made $38 million(coincidence? do not think so...),but again,now,$68 million... i understand that Moore deserves something(definitely),and this may not be popular, but now,$68 million... to those blood sucking attorneys of Moore's,you have no class, and you are ambulance chasing parasites,of the legal system, and to Moore,i say, injuries aside, you are becoming greedy,so my empathy, and sympathy only goes so far... a total sham and shame!!!!!
commentary...
the Red Wings,so far, have done very little in free agency... the only things that the fans know is that both goaltenders from last season(Jimmy Howard, and Jonas Gustavsson)will return as the main tandem in net... if Howard does not improve on his overall numbers, there will be a lot of boos, and jeers,in Joe Louis Arena, this upcoming season... i may be moaning throughout the season, but i am a true fan of the Red Wings, and that is more important to me than i can say,period...

good wishes for Rick...
Buffalo Sabres' Hall of Fame announcer Rick Jeanneret has throat cancer... he has a 85% chance of recovery... he plans to return to the booth, this season... my opinion:of all the NHL broadcast teams,he honestly stands out,and he is only reason that i honestly listen to Sabres' games... here's to a swift recovery, and a deep hat tip to him... let us hope that he "goes to the upper shelf, where the cookies are"(one of his famous sayings, when on air,and when the Sabres score, with a high, over the shoulder shot),and comes back healthy...

hockey,my love of the game...
you may believe that the NHL is over for the season, but the truth is hockey goes 24/7/365... the games may be over, and that is true, but honestly, there are places that players can go,and still play hockey... the great players may take off a couple weeks off,but they get "the itch" to play again, because the off-season is rather short for the great players, because training camps, start in late August,or early September... i would watch kids play ball hockey in the street,or even players train and skate around on a sheet of ice any day of the week, because i simply love the beautiful game of hockey, that is very simple:kids playing on a sheet of ice,or any surface, shooting the puck at an empty net, when training for accuracy, and i honestly could watch them do that for hours, because that is the true beautiful game of hockey,period... that taught me to love the beautiful game of hockey, not just watching NHL hockey... that is the top of the heap,in professional hockey, but that is not everything the game is...
Sunday, June 15, 2014
commentary...
honestly, this season(2013-2014 NHL season),was fascinating to watch, including the Stanley Cup-winning playoff run of the Los Angeles Kings... to play twenty six games, the Kings had the horses to go the distance, and they deserve the kudos for the historic run(three seven game series, and a gritty tough as nails Stanley Cup Finals' win),and to beat the San Jose Sharks,in the first round, after being down 3-0,to the Sharks was amazing... they are the third team in professional sports history to win a championship after completing that historic feat, joining the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs, and the 2004 Boston Red Sox... at times, this season was as dull as a butter knife, but the teams that deserved to be in the playoffs were in the Stanley Cup playoffs, every one of them... to give props to the New York Rangers, they, too, won two seven game series, and brought the Stanley Cup Finals, into three overtime games, including a double overtime game, that honestly, was too exciting to really watch(game five),because both teams had a real chance to win the game, but the bounces went the Kings' way, instead, and the score line may say:Kings won series, four games to one,but honestly,it was much closer than that... better believe that,period...

commentary...
game five of the Stanley Cup Finals is tomorrow(Friday)and the Rangers have said that they feel hopeful,in winning the Stanley Cup... that would be possible to be shown to the regular fan, but, folks, let me say something to crush that hopeful trial balloon:in the last two games,in the third periods of game three and four, the Rangers have had only four shots, and since the controversial interference goal that cut the Rangers' lead to 4-3(at about 18:00 left on the clock,in the third period,of game two,the Rangers have scored only two goals, and given up six goals... both goaltenders have had great games, and moments,in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but the Rangers have stopped scoring, and alas, shooting the puck in the critical third period... two goals in two games, and two overtimes will not win anything, unless the other team does not show up,and i am afraid that the Kings will show up,and if the puck goes about three inches(on two shots-the puck stopped on the goal line, not once, but twice during game four for the Kings),the Kings would have swept the Rangers, last night... so,good luck,Rangers!!!!!!!!

Stanley Cup Finals' game score...
Rangers 2,Kings 1... Rangers finally win a game in series... impressive showing by Henrik Lundqvist, for the Rangers... however, two goals may have won this game, but the Rangers are still in a deep hole, and are a long shot to do anything... game five,Stanley Cup Finals,in Los Angeles,Friday... one shot in third period will not win four games... Rangers out-shot 15-1,in third period... ughhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Kings up 3-1,in games,in best of seven series...

Stanley Cup Finals' game score...
Kings 3,Rangers 0... a commanding lead for the Kings, and the Rangers absolutely did nothing against the Kings... they have only one power play goal,in this series,so far... Jonathan Quick was spectacular in goal for the Kings,period... the Rangers need a miracle:do something that only one team has done:the Toronto Maple Leafs came back from a 3-0 deficit,to win the Stanley Cup Finals, against the Red Wings,in 1942... every other team that has done that feat,a championship was not decided in that series...

NHL news...
the Pittsburgh Penguins, like i predicted earlier, fired head coach Dan Bylsma, and hired a new general manager in Jim Rutherford... since winning the Stanley Cup in 2009,Bylsma was 27-27,in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and 1-6,in playoff elimination games,AT HOME... it was time to change coaches,in the Steel City...

Red Wings' news...
the Red Wings signed Grand Rapids Griffiths' head coach Jeff Blashill to a three year contract extension... my opinion:definitely a very good move by the Red Wings...
commentary...
the game between the Rangers and the Kings last night was very good, but the Rangers did have a 2-0 lead, and then lost in overtime... when,in the third period, you get out-shot 20-3,you are going to lose, like the Rangers did, last night... in the first two periods, the Rangers worked hard, and then went to sleep in the third period... they did not have a shot on goal in the first ten minutes plus,of the third period, which meant that the Rangers had a great goaltending job by Henrik Lundqvist wasted,in the entire game, especially in the third period... the Rangers need to play sixty minutes of hockey, not thirty nine minutes, like they did last night... if they do not improve that fact,it will be a very short series...

Stanley Cup Finals' game score...
Kings 3,Rangers 2,overtime... Kings up one game to none,in Stanley Cup Finals... comments, tomorrow morning...
reduction of suspension...
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has reduced the ten game suspension of New York Rangers' Daniel Circillo for shoving and slashing a linesman during the Eastern Conference Finals,to six games, citing Rule 40.4,not 40.3,noting that it appeared that Circillo did not intentionally strike the linesman(getting away from him)... Circillo will be eligible to play in game four of the Stanley Cup,against the Kings...

strange things do happen...
i have watched much more of the New York Rangers' games than the Los Angeles Kings' games, this season... pundits have basically installed the Kings,as Stanley Cup Champions, giving the Rangers very little chance to win the Stanley Cup... that is a smart money bet,but honestly i would not count the Rangers,as dead meat... no matter how impressive the Kings run to the Finals is(and it is),i have learned over the years that a hot team can become an ice cold team overnight... examples:a defending Stanley Cup Champion goes into a first round matchup, and gets shut out twice, and scored only four goals,in entire series, losing in a sweep,to a lightly regarded,at that time, team, and with,to boot,a rookie goaltender, and the winning team that goes to the Stanley Cup Finals, that year(Detroit/Anaheim Mighty Ducks,2003),and a team who won 62 games(a NHL regular season record),meets their doom in the Western Conference Finals, against a team that moved from Quebec City,Quebec,to Denver,in six games(Detroit/Colorado Avalanche,1996),and finally,a team goes up 3-0,in the Stanley Cup Finals, and then loses in seven games(Detroit/Toronto Maple Leafs,1942)... a hot goaltender can change things overnight,as my examples may attest to,so if you believe the Rangers have no chance, think again,folks... strange things have happened in the Stanley Cup Finals over the years... i have seen it over and over...

commentary...
before you just give the Stanley Cup to the Los Angeles Kings, you degrade the New York Rangers,in many ways, because they are very very good... the two teams have not played each other, since November 17th(a 1-0 win,for the Kings),but they played actually in the second game of the season,on October 7th,when the Rangers were on a nine game season opening road trip(a 3-1,win for the Rangers)... both goaltenders(Jonathan Quick, for the Kings, and Henrik Lundqvist, for the Rangers)are very good, and Quick has won a Stanley Cup(2012),but honestly,Lundqvist, and the Rangers have not been in the Stanley Cup Finals, since 1994,when they beat the Vancouver Canucks,3-2,in game seven, that year,so that is a moot point, for now... Lundqvist holds many Rangers' goaltending records, and that says a great deal, for a team that dates back to 1926... it should be a heck of a Stanley Cup Finals' series,period...

game score,and comments...
Kings 5,Blackhawks 4,overtime... Kings win Western Conference... third game seven win,and seventh win,in elimination games,in seven tries, this playoff season... they meet the New York Rangers,Wednesday,in Los Angeles,to open up Stanley Cup Finals,in which the Kings will have home ice advantage... i have to admit the Blackhawks were great defending Stanley Cup Champions, and they were tougher than iron to eliminate from the Western Conference Finals...
game seven tonight...
Los Angeles Kings/Chicago Blackhawks, game seven,Western Conference Finals,tonight... winner goes to Stanley Cup Finals, against the New York Rangers, and will have home ice advantage,in Finals... note i will note score, and comment on it tomorrow morning...

blog statement(getting amped up)...
i need a day off from blogging... "Idaho Spud" time... Western Conference Finals' game seven-Kings/Blackhawks,tomorrow... looking forward to a great game... the last two Stanley Cup-winning teams going at it,for a berth in Stanley Cup Finals, against the New York Rangers... this is true blue hockey, and that is what true hockey fans love,period...

game score,and comments...
Blackhawks 4,Kings 3... what did i say about the Blackhawks, earlier in the Western Conference Finals, against the Kings, when down 3-1,in games,"they need to play like champions"??? well, they have,so i am a true hockey fan,and will say that the Blackhawks have forced a game seven, with a desperate two goal rally in last 7:04,and then hung on,for a thrilling 4-3 win... game seven is in Chicago,Sunday...
commentary...
now,we know that the Blackhawks/Kings winner,in the Western Conference Finals will meet the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals... the Kings lead the Western Conference Finals, three games to two games, over the Blackhawks... both teams are very talented, and yet, have not played up to their potential,in many ways... before you make the winner of the Western Conference Finals, the eventual Stanley Cup champion, they will face a team in the Rangers that may look a little weak,on paper, remember that goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is a "money"(clutch)goaltender who has won a NHL record five straight game sevens(5-1,save percentage of .965,with a goals against average(G.A.A.),of an amazing 1.00)... both the teams in the Western Conference Finals have won Stanley Cups;Blackhawks,2010,and 2013,and the Kings won the Stanley Cup in 2012,so both teams are extremely tough to beat... so we are looking forward to an extremely excited Stanley Cup Finals...

game score,and personal comments...
Rangers 1,Canadiens 0... Rangers win Eastern Conference, and advance to Stanley Cup Finals, for the first time since 1994,when i remember hearing,"Let's Go Rangers",in Grand Central Station... would love to hear that,tonight...

comments...
the Kings/Blackhawks game five,of the Western Conference Finals is in progress;tied at four apiece late in third period... an entertaining game for the true fans, and i have enjoyed it... it looks like overtime, but you never can tell... will give commentary, most likely tomorrow morning... Blackhawks is on power play late in third period,so who knows what is going to happen...

game score,and comment...
Canadiens 7,Rangers 4... Montreal simply refused to lose... Rangers lead Eastern Conference Finals, three games to two games...

a great coaching hire for the Capitals...
Washington Capitals hire former Nashville Predators' head coach Barry Trotz,as their new head coach... my opinion:the Capitals will be physically tougher to play, with a team defense, next season, because Trotz is known in the NHL coaching ranks,as a defensive wizard, and i hate to admit,i respect him no end... i "hated" to see his team play the Red Wings... anyone for Alka Seltzer,or Tums??? i will need them...
game score,and comments...
Kings 5,Blackhawks 2... Chicago down 3-1,in games,in best of seven series... Blackhawks 1-11,in twelve series down 3-1,in games, all time, but last year, they beat the Red Wings,in seven, after being down 3-1,in games... however, the Kings are not last year's Red Wings, and the Blackhawks are not clearly last year's team, and that is big trouble for the Blackhawks...

game score...
Rangers 3,Canadiens 2,overtime... Rangers up,3 games to one game,in Eastern Conference Finals... commentary, tomorrow morning...
note...
i will watch tonight's Rangers/Canadiens game, but because of fatigue,i will note game score, and comment on game early tomorrow morning... sorry,folks...

game score,and commentary...
Kings 4,Blackhawks 3... Kings dominate last two periods,as Blackhawks went numb, and looked lifeless, except for Jonathan Toews, who had first two Blackhawks' goals, only a Blackhawks' goal scored with just under five seconds to play,in game made the score look closer than it should have been... a very good game to watch, but the Kings did not allow a power play goal(they killed off three straight power play chances by the Blackhawks,in the second and early third period, when the Blackhawks had a chance to tie the game,at three, but could not get the puck past goaltender Jonathan Quick,or even the Kings' smothering defense),and sapped the energy out of the Blackhawks' team offense... Kings lead Western Conference series two games to one game...
what a joke,and bad one,to boot...
Derek Stepan had his jaw broken by the blindside hit given to him by Brandon Prust, early in game three of the Rangers/Canadiens series... Prust received a two game suspension by the NHL Department of Player Safety... that is a total joke of a suspension:ten games for whacking a linesman on the leg,and a shove for Daniel Carcillo(which i agree with),and then a two game suspension for Prust for a DELIBERATE blindside hit that broke Stepan's jaw(which i find rather disgusting-should have been much more-five,or ten games)... the NHL Department of Player Safety is ridiculous and rather inert,in terms of fair suspensions, for goons like Prust, and i said it:what Prust did was deliberate, and he played early in game three like a goon,period...
commentary...
basically of all the games in both the conference finals, the quality of the overall play has been very, very poor... in fact,it has stunk... except for the overall play of New York Rangers' goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, which has been very good, every goaltender has had his moments, including Lundqvist, that he has looked like Moe,Larry, and Curly(the Three Stooges),of stopping pucks, and make easy shots look like blazing 100 mph rockets... in fact, the strangest goal of the Rangers/Canadiens entire series was a very bad hop/bounce of the puck past Lundqvist... i do not blame Henrik for that, because that is hockey, and there have been some strange deflections of the puck in all the series, which makes the goaltending very suspect-numbers-wise-and that sucks,if you are a fan this time of year... that is Stanley Cup playoff hockey, isn't it?
Friday, May 23, 2014
Carcillo suspended ten games...
Daniel Carcillo has been suspended ten games by the NHL Department of Player Safety, for shoving, and whacking a linesman in the leg with his stick... it is a violation of Rule 40.3,category II,of the NHL rulebook...
commentary,and note of NHL history...
last night's game between the Rangers and the Canadiens was a good game... both teams played well, but honestly, the Canadiens played better with desperate means to an end-a win... it was rather nasty, and ugly at the start... both teams wanted to just beat the snot out of each other in the first two periods, and you can tell that both teams do not have like each other, and have a nasty edge to an old rivalry(an Original Six rivalry,to boot)... Brandon Prust's deliberate high elbow,to Derek Stepan's chest/chin,in the first period was not called for a penalty(should have been),and Daniel Circillo's bumping of a linesman, shortly after that, was the sign of the obvious bad blood between the two teams(Circillo is facing a suspension for that bump)... those two incidents almost blew the roof off Madison Square Garden... the fans were very upset, booing loudly... note of NHL history:a riot actually happened,in Montreal, when fans got rowdy, during a game between the Red Wings, and Canadiens, and the game was called a forfeit, and then the fans rioted in the streets of Montreal... the "Richard Riot" happened on March 17,1955,when fans got upset because of the suspension of Maurice "the Rocket" Richard by then NHL President Clarence Campbell for the rest of the 1954-1955 NHL season... the Forum was emptied(by fire marshall),after fans threw everything at the ice(including eggs, and a smoke bomb)... the Red Wings were leading 4-1,when game was called, and so the fans rioted,in the streets of Montreal...

game score...
Canadiens 3,Rangers 2,overtime... series,now,Rangers,up,2-1,in games... will blog tomorrow morning... am very tired...
game score...
Los Angeles Kings 6,Chicago Blackhawks 2... Western Conference Finals, tied at one game apiece...
commentary...
how does a hockey team go from a 2-1 lead, after two periods,to a 6-2 loss,in the Western Conference Finals??? they stop playing NHL hockey, and skate around the rink, like a pee wee hockey team, and goaltender Corey Crawford gives up four of the five goals(one being an empty net goal),in the dreadful third period... the Kings lead NHL,with 22 goals,in the third period,in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and they tied a franchise record, with five goals,in the third period... one of the other times was April 10,1982,when "The Miracle on Manchester" happened when the Kings beat the Edmonton Oilers,6-5,when the Kings were down 5-0,after two periods(one of only two times,in NHL history, that a team overcame a 5-0 deficit, after two periods)... up to last night, the Kings had never won a playoff game in Chicago, losing all seven previous playoff games(losing all three playoff games,in 1974,and last year, and then losing the Western Conference Finals' opener, this year)... the Blackhawks better forget this debacle, and play hockey,in this series, against the Kings,or the Kings are going to beat the Blackhawks, and unlike last year, the Blackhawks are beatable, and the Kings know it... unfortunately, some pundits still believe that Chicago is going to repeat as Stanley Cup champions, and that is very, very possible, but folks there are three other teams who are in the Stanley Cup playoffs, who given the right bounce of the puck, great team defense, and overall play, who can win the Stanley Cup... so head coach Joel Quenneville, you better knock that stupid, arrogant smirk off your team's collective faces, and play NHL hockey,or you will get beat like that every game, because the Kings remember winning the Stanley Cup,in 2012,and they want it back,period...
