Red Wings' game score...

Red Wings 2,Sharks 1,shootout win... commentary later, tomorrow morning...

shame on you,NHL...

the hit on Red Wings' player Brendan Smith was in violation of rule 48.1,because it was targeted to Smith's head,as primary point of contact, and referees Gord Dwyer,Stephen Walkom, and linemen Bryan Pancich, and Steve Miller, all missed the penalty... the simple fact is that the referees, and linemen, have been sub-par,in calling penalties for most of this season, and the NHL is to blame for the shoddy penalty calling, throughout the NHL,period...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl playoff game...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 3,Severstal Cherepovets 2... Staffan Kronwall, brother of Red Wings' defenseman Niklas Kronwall, scored game winning goal, with 2:26 left,in game,as Lokomotiv beat Severstal, and tie series,at two games apiece...

correction...

a correction is made to previous post... Brendan Smith was hit in the head;he wobbled off the ice with help, from Justin Abdelkader, and the Red Wings' team doctor, and one player smashed Dan Cleary into the glass causing the cut over his right eye... sorry,folks... i do not argue about the win by the Kings over the Red Wings, but the way that the game was called by the referees i do argue about, along with the way that the Kings played... what goons!!!!!!!

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...

Kings 2,Red Wings 1... Red Wings deserved better than a loss... the referees sucked big time, and let the Kings mug the Red Wings,in third period, especially right before Anze Kopitar scored the winning goal, which was a beauty,to behold, but two of the Kings' players smashed Dan Cleary, into the glass that actually drew blood over the right eye of Cleary, and the other mugging was a forearm,to Brendan Smith,by one of the Kings' players... neither were called as a penalty, and should have been called as penalties, and so the Kings got two points, and the Red Wings got the shaft,period... you may believe that i am being biased, but honestly,it seems that the referees let the Kings get away with stuff, until they scored,on the Red Wings, because there were three two man advantages called on the Red Wings that may have been legitimate, but not to call the Kings,on basically a third period beatdown, was definitely wrong...

commentary...

Damien Brunner, and Joakim Andersson both had two goals, along with Henrik Zetterberg,Dan Cleary,Niklas Kronwall, and Jordin Tootoo, who all had a goal apiece,as the Detroit Red Wings crushed the Vancouver Canucks,8-3,by scoring the last six goals,in the second and third periods... they even had a ninth goal disallowed,by Pavel Datsyuk, because of a high stick, which hit a puck above the crossbar, and into the goal... they were three for five on the power play:Cleary's goal,Zetterberg's goal, and the first goal by Brunner, were power play goals-all three second period goals were on the power play... for the Canucks,Daniel Sedin had two goals,in the first period, but Canucks' goaltender Roberto Luongo had a miserable, and forgettable day, letting in eight goals,in twenty eight shots-a save percentage of .714-a truly horrible save percentage... for a Red Wings' fan,a true delight of a game, not so much, for a Canucks' fan... best offensive game for the Red Wings, this season, not so much for the snowman of goals, but the Red Wings just could not miss a shot, when it counted...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl playoff game...

Severstal Cherepovets 3,Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 2... Severstal scored with 33 seconds left in game to beat Lokomotiv,in a heartbreaking loss... Severstal leads series,2-1...

commentary...

last night's game, against the Predators, was a basic mowdown,by the Red Wings... they scored a goal,in the first period, and two goals,in the second period, and another goal,in the third period, and Nashville had no jump and simply could not get "a pea"(not my quote),past Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard... Howard got his 12th career NHL shutout, and the Red Wings' second shutout of the season... Drew Miller,Tomas Tatar,Niklas Kronwall, and then Dan Cleary scored a power play goal,in the third period... Pavel Datsyuk had two assists, and played solid defense...

Chicago Blackhawks 2,San Jose Sharks 1... Blackhawks set NHL record for points in seventeen straight games,to start the season... they are 14-0-3...

history in Chicago,tonight???

the San Jose Sharks,a team that is supposed to be in the Stanley Cup playoffs, this season, and yet,has won only one game this month of February(a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues, their last game),and has a record of 1-4-3,this month, play the Chicago Blackhawks, tonight,a team, who has not lost a game,in regulation, and has a record of 13-0-3,which,right now, ties the 2007 Anaheim Ducks, for the longest streak of games won, without a regulation loss,to start a season,in NHL history... what a tough road to hoe,tonight...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...

Columbus Blue Jackets 3,Red Wings 2... a heartbreaking loss,in last twenty five seconds,as Columbus executed a beautiful three on two break, with Vinny Prospal, putting a puck on his backhand past Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard... Detroit scored twice in the first three minutes,of game, and both teams scored within the first five minutes,to make it 2-1,Detroit,until well into the third period... Artem Anisimov,of the Blue Jackets lost an edge going into the boards, and Kyle Quincey fell on top of him,and Anisimov's head hit the ice,and Quincey's arm hit him in the head as he fell on top of Anisimov... Anisimov was taken to the the hospital for precautions, and was awake, and moving all his limbs... honestly,i believe that he may have a concussion... Red Wings play the Nashville Predators,Vancouver Canucks,Los Angeles Kings,San Jose Sharks, and the Chicago Blackhawks,in the next five games... the schedule does not get any easier, and that is why tonight's game was so heartbreaking...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl playoff game...

Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 2,Severstal Cherepovets 1... Lokomotiv Jaroslavl scored winning goal 1:01 into third period, and then clamped down on defense to ice game... game winning goal, for Lokomotiv, was scored by Staffan Kronwall, brother of Red Wings' defenseman Niklas Kronwall... series tied at one game each...

commentary...

i believe that last night's game, against the Nashville Predators, was a very good game, showing how scrappy this Red Wings' game can be... that is the good news... now for the bad news:Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard left game,in the first period, with the "dreaded" upper-body injury(day to day?),and Cory Emmerton left game, but returned, after taking a puck to the face... Pavel Datsyuk had a memorable end to end rush, going through the entire team,on the way to shooting the puck over Predators' goaltender Pekka Rinne's shoulder,to tie game at three, but honestly the Red Wings' defense around Howard was still porous, and through seven road games, the Red Wings' power play has been invisible, and has not scored a goal,yet... it appears that the Red Wings' power play is still a work in progress, but come on,it has been frustrating to watch, because you may be thinking that they can even tip in a puck, after seven road games, but not yet... even one would help... Dan Clearly did score a short-handed goal, last night,so maybe,it will come...

commentary...

the Red Wings got off to a good start for the second game in a row,but honestly after the first twenty seconds of the second period, when Pavel Datsyuk scored, the Red Wings then had a 2-0 lead, the Wild scored three goals in 4:10,in the second period(two of the goals were 58 seconds apart)... the tying goal was noteworthy, for one reason:Jason Zucker, for the Wild, went about 190+ feet,on an end to end rush(up the right side of rink,by the dasher),and shot it over Jimmy Howard's shoulder, for his first NHL career goal... a goal of the year candidate,if i must say!!!!! just a beauty,i have to admit... Red Wings are just undermanned, and right now,are too banged up to finish off a game, even a two goal lead,in last two games does not help their defense, because they could not hold onto those leads, which is frustrating to the fans, because they have looked good,in spots, but have lost the last two games,in the last halves of those games, which simply sucks, because they do have talent to compete, but with nine players out with injury, and a porous defense,in spots, that makes the Red Wings very inconsistent,indeed...

Sibir Novosibirsk 4,Lokomotiv Jaroslavl 2... Lokomotiv got mowed down, after early 1-0 lead,in the first period, with four straight goals, even though Lokomotiv scored shorthanded,to end the scoring...

commentary...

the Red Wings are playing Minnesota,as i type this... more on game,later... however the Red Wings are playing very well, even with nine players out, with injury... being a true fan,of hockey,i do get frustrated with lack of effort, but honestly, the Red Wings, for the most part, have been competitive in playing their games, and that is all you can ask for... they are in playoff race for the top eight teams,in the Western Conference, and right now,as i type this, they are eighth in the conference, and if Minnesota wins, they will have the same record,as the Wild, who are eleventh right now... being a Red Wings fan, this season, has been actually fun, because i know that they are a team in transition, and will get better,in the long term, and that is more important, than in the short term....

Red Wings' game score and commentary...

Anaheim Ducks 5,Red Wings 2... score does not indicate how well the Red Wings did play, tonight, but with nine players out with injury, including Pavel Datsyuk, and Johan Franzen(both day to day),the Ducks took advantage of every weird bounce, turnover, and actually a splintered stick,by Ian White, and the puck dribbled, and went to Corey Perry, right in front of Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard,to tie game,at 2... Red Wings actually led game twice, for a total of 58 seconds, and then within 48 seconds,in first two minutes of the third period, the Ducks scored on two turnovers of the puck,on the Red Wings' side of neutral ice... one turnover went off a Red Wings' player's skate, and two passes later, ended up in the Red Wings' goal, behind Jimmy Howard(Andrew Cogliano-game winning goal-first of two goals),and then Bobby Ryan scored 48 seconds later to basically ice game, and then Cogliano scored an empty net goal... for the Red Wings,Joakim Andersson, scored his first NHL goal, and Tomas Tatar scored his second goal in two games, but Anaheim remained hot, overall, with rookie goaltender Viktor Fasth winning his seventh game,in seven starts...

Blues 4,Red Wings 3,overtime... Red Wings get only seven shots on goal, after first period(one shot,in third period, and one shot in overtime)and blew a 2-0 lead, after ten minutes,of first period, and still got a valuable point... it was an ugly game, not being rough, but no one,on either team played with any passion, after the second period... the Blues only had six shots in third period, and had two in fifty two seconds of overtime time... getting one point is crucial, because neither team played well,tonight...

commentary...

one team that has surprised me in a negative way has been the San Jose Sharks... they started 7-0-0,this season, but they lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets,6-2,last night, and have been 0-3-2,over the last five games... their power play has gone dormant, and yet they are only one point ahead,of the fifth seed the Detroit Red Wings, who honestly started off very slowly, but has won three in a row... the Sharks play the Nashville Predators,in Nashville, tonight, but they stunk up the joint,in Columbus, last night, and they have begun a six game road trip last night, and they are not playing not like one of the best teams of the NHL,at least, right now... good for the Sharks, they are only one point, behind the Anaheim Ducks,in the Pacific Division,so if they can straighten their season out, but, bad for the Sharks, winning in Nashville, tonight, then playing the Chicago Blackhawks twice in the next three games,in Chicago, with the St. Louis Blues in between,in St. Louis, and then to end the road trip in Dallas,to play the Stars,is a very tough road to hoe, because beating those teams in their arenas is going to be very tough, especially in Chicago, and St. Louis... they need to practice, and hone their offense, and tighten up on their defense around their goaltender, and their net, because letting in six goals/a game will not help, like last night... they really should be in the Stanley Cup playoffs, this season, and that is a very good thing for them...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...

Red Wings 3,Los Angeles Kings 2... Red Wings win game with just less than five seconds to play,in the game, after the Kings tied game,at two, with just less than fifty three seconds left in game... second Red Wings' win in twenty four hours... both goaltenders(Jimmy Howard, for the Red Wings, and Jonathan Quick, for the Kings)had very good games,in goal, and both made spectacular saves,to keep it a very tight game... it honestly looked like a 2-1 Red Wings' win, because Howard just looked unbeatable, facing forty seven shots,in game, and the Kings looked like they were the tired team(getting one shot at Howard and then out of the offensive zone, for most of the game),and the Red Wings were blocking shots, and what was not blocked in front of Howard,Howard scooped up like a vacuum cleaner, until the wild last minute, when the Kings crashed the net,and scored to tie game,at two,and the Red Wings basically got lucky when the puck got by Quick,on a shot by Jonathan Ericsson, and scooted in the net, when the puck hit an edge, and the Red Wings won game in regulation... it was 2-1,after one period,on goals by Pavel Datsyuk, and Damien Brunner, for the Red Wings, and then in the last thirty seconds of the period,Anze Kopitar,of the Kings, scored on a bad rebound, and shot it past Howard... Alec Martinez, for the Kings, tied game,in a very strange and wild last minute, and then Ericsson scored on a shot that honestly should have stopped by Quick, but a weird bounce and slide of the puck, gave the Red Wings the win,today...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...

Red Wings 2,Edmonton Oilers 1... best overall defensive game,by Red Wings,so far, this season... Red Wings' penalty kill that was 29th in NHL,stopped Edmonton,on seven of eight penalties... Red Wings' power play that is 26th in NHL,scored twice,to win game... Nikolai Khabibulin,of the Oilers, and Jimmy Howard,of the Red Wings, had outstanding games in goal, for both teams... goals for Detroit, were scored by Pavel Datysuk, and Niklas Kronwall, and the Oilers' goal was scored by Justin Schulz, and all three goals were scored on the power play, for both teams...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...

Red Wings 5,Blues 1... Petr Mrazek(correct spelling)came up from Grand Rapids, made his NHL debut, and stopped 26,of 27 shots,as the Blues looked sluggish, and the Red Wings dominated, and simply out-played the Blues,tonight... Mrazek was the star of the game, and the Blues 'defense around their net was very, very poor,as the Red Wings jumped on rebounds, and basically tapped in goals throughout the game... on a four on four(even strength),Valtteri Filppula scored on a breakaway,to ice the game... there is some bad news for the Red Wings, because Johan Franzen got tossed for the game,in third period, for what looked like a spear on David Perron, who got also a penalty for boarding, but on the four on four, after those penalties, the Red Wings scored, and that basically ended the game... Franzen should hear from NHL Director of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan about a possible fine,or suspension, for the butt-end of the stick to Perron's stomach... great game for Mr. Mrazek,no doubt... the Blues have lost three games in a row,in regulation, and even though they beat the Red Wings,6-0,opening night, they have lost the last two games to the Red Wings,5-3,and tonight...

NHL news...

Boston Bruins trade two-time Vezina Trophy winner(best goaltender award),Tim Thomas to the New York Islanders, for a conditional draft pick, contingent on fact that he plays again in the NHL,next season... he took a break from playing this season...

commentary...

there are Red Wings' fans who may be restless, after two straight losses(and a game, against St. Louis, tonight),and a 4-4-1 start to this 2013 NHL season, and the Red Wings having salary cap space, and nothing being done,it appears,in Detroit,to improve the team... however,i am on the other side of that "so-called" debate, because to bring in a named superstar,to help, most likely, means to give up major talent on both sides of the ice, which can,or can not, help in the long run,of the health of the team... i have to admit that the Red Wings are in a very tough spot,in between a rock, and a hard place, but the overall long term health,of the franchise is more important, than the short term gratification,of a deep playoff run, when the "rent a player" leaves for greener pastures, and leaves Detroit, without the player,or even the young talent traded for him,and then the Red Wings are in for a longer playoff drought than, possibly, for this year... i still remember the "Dead Wings"(very few playoff appearances) decades,of the 1970's,and most of the 1980's,even though they drafted Hall of Fame member Steve Yzerman, during that time... it was miserable,period... so be careful what you wish for,and right now, just be patient...

Sharks go poof!!!,at least for one night...

what happened to the San Jose Sharks,Tuesday night??? they had a 3-1 lead,on the Chicago Blackhawks, with 9:13,left,in the first period,at home, and then lost lead,in fifty seconds, and did not score for the rest of the game, and lost,5-3,to the Blackhawks... i wonder:have the Sharks lost their bite???

commentary...

this early in this short season,my feelings about the Red Wings have been very correct... they are very inconsistent in their play, and going into last night, the third and fourth line,of their forwards,of the Red Wings' offense have exactly one point,of the forty nine points, that they have scored, with Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, and a third player(most likely,Johan Franzen),having 32 points,of that total... their power play has been basically anemic, and their defense is a work in progress, sometimes brilliant, and sometimes non-existent... Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard has been very good, but i have to admit the last two games have not been his best, but the fact that the Red Wings' defense has been shaky, has not helped Howard at all... that fact of a little training camp and no preseason games have hurt the Red Wings the most,of all NHL teams, because the loss of three major stars(Nicklas Lidstrom, and Tomas Holmstrom),to retirement, and(Brad Stuart),to free agency(San Jose Sharks),has put the Red Wings behind the proverbial eight-ball for this season, but honestly they do have talent to contend, and yet they are very inexperienced, and young on the back end of their offense and their defense, and with injuries to some of their players,it may be a very long season, and with fourteen of their last twenty two games,on the road it will be tough to get into the Stanley Cup playoffs this year... they have the talent to contend, get into the Stanley Cup playoffs, the coaching, but it will be real dogfight to do it,and it may be frustrating to watch, but being a hardcore fan,i am really anxious to watch the Red Wings mature,as a team, throughout this season...

Flames 4,Red Wings 1... Red Wings had chances, but honestly could not stay out of penalty box,and Calgary took advantage, and scored a goal, with 24 seconds left,in the second period,to break open a 2-1 game, and Detroit had Calgary clamp down,on defense, limiting the Red Wings,to six shots,in the third period... inconsistent play tonight doomed the Red Wings...

with two goals by Artem Anisimov, the Columbus Blue Jackets broke a 1-1 tie, with the Detroit Red Wings, and beat them,4-2,in Columbus... that is the headline, but honestly,if you were a Red Wings' fan,you nodded off after the first ten minutes of play, because the Red Wings basically sleepwalked through this game, including goaltender Jimmy Howard, who honestly stunk up the joint, letting in soft goals, and with no help from the Red Wings' defense around the net, looked like a rookie, throughout the game... however, after beating the St. Louis Blues the night before,5-3,i did expect the Red Wings to be tired, but not to sleepwalk through the game, letting in four straight goals, after leading 1-0,in first ten minutes of game, but they went asleep, last night...
