Tampa Bay Lightning 5,Red Wings 1... Red Wings get their rear ends handed to them,in a shellacking... the only bright spot for the Red Wings was that the back up goaltender,Tom McCollum,stopped all sixteen shots by the Lightning,in the third period... what a performance by him!!!!!!!! everyone else really sucked...

Red Wings/Tampa Bay Lightning,tonight... the top two teams in the Atlantic Division play against each other... Red Wings have a six game winning streak,and an one point lead,over the Lightning... even though,the Red Wings have won six games in a row,their overall team defense has slipped over the last three games(goals against average-wise)... for example:had a 5-2 lead,after two periods,over the Florida Panthers,and then barely hung on to beat the Panthers,5-4... my opinion:advice to Red Wings,tighten up your team defense,against the Lightning,who are averaging 3.18 goals/per game,best in the NHL...

hockey will miss you,Martin

Martin Brodeur will retire on Thursday... he had 691 career wins,as goaltender for the New Jersey Devils,and the St. Louis Blues,with an unbelievable 125 shutouts,in 1,266 games... possibly the best goaltender that i have ever seen... he had three goals,and fifty seven assists,in his career... he won a Stanley Cup three times... he had 113 playoff wins,second all-time,in NHL history... he won four Vezina Trophies,as best goaltender,along with two Olympic gold medals,in 2002,and 2010,for Canada... a very respectful deep hat tip,to a certain(a lock,folks) Hockey Hall of Fame member,in his first year eligible,in three years...

Red Wings 5,Nashville Predators 2... Red Wings dominate the top team in the NHL-points wise-as i type this,and won their third straight game... Nashville had lost in regulation since December 23rd,2014... Tomas Tatar scored twice,including the game winning goal in the first period... Pavel Datsyuk and Riley Sheahan(pronounced shane) had two assists apiece,and the Red Wings went two for two on power play,and now lead the NHL,with 40 power play goals...

the game last night between the Sabres and the Red Wings was a typical Red Wings' win:smothering defense and just enough team defense to win it... the main problem with the Sabres is simple to know,if you watch them over time:they do have talent on their team,but you need talent on all your lines to roll all four lines to keep the team flowing with an offense that just will not quit,and not many teams have that mix on their teams...  nothing against the Sabres or any team in the NHL,including the Red Wings,but honestly,that it is the main difference between the top teams and the rest of the NHL...

Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard goes down awkwardly in goal,just after the first Washington Capitals' goal,in the first two minutes of game... was carried off on stretcher... my opinion:it looks like a groin pull,but who knows(crossing fingers)??? as i type this,he is still at the arena in medical area...

the annual trip to play the San Jose Sharks comes near the end of this crazy stretch of games,on February 26th... unfortunately,there is absolutely no way to get a ticket to that game,in San Jose,even though the Sharks are struggling this season... i guess that i will buy some more Starbucks,because of that game... i am willing to see the Sharks lose(laughing)...

the Red Wings have played very well,winning two of three in Western Canada,losing only in Vancouver,to the Canucks,and the score of that game(4-1,Vancouver)included two empty net goals,by the Canucks... the Red Wings are in third place,right now,as i type this,three points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning,and seven points ahead of the fourth place Boston Bruins... the Red Wings lead the NHL in power play goals,and,right now,have the second best power play-percentage wise... the Red Wings are 22-10-9,so far,and in my opinion,have only stunk up the joint a couple of times,this season... after a quick Flames' 1-0 lead,in the first period,the Red Wings scored three unanswered goals,to go up,3-1,and only a beautiful pass and short-handed goal,by the Flames,early in the third period,made it close,but the Red Wings who are 13-0-2,after two periods smothered the Flames the rest of the way,in the game... an deliberate elbow,by the Calgary Flames' Curtis Glencross to the goaltender mask of Petr Mrazek,with 1:20 left in game,that knocked off the mask(a rather dirty move) disallowed maybe the tying goal... the referees blew the whistle,and waved off the "goal",just before the horn that went off for the goal,and then the fans started to throw water bottles onto the ice,as they were very unhappy,with the call... however,that is hockey,not every call goes the fans' way,and it was a very good call,period...

the Oilers got beat by their own player putting an own goal into their own net,late in the third period... the power play goal was credited to Pavel Datsyuk... an empty net goal put the game on ice,for the Red Wings... the game was a good game,but being out-shot 41-23,and smothered by the Red Wings,doomed the Oilers after the first period... the Red Wings are 14-0-2,in last sixteen games,and Jimmy Howard is 11-1-2,in fourteen career games,against the Oilers...
