NHL news,and comments...

a real quirk in the NHL.com's annual 30 in 30 (teams in days, folks)look at the clubs of the NHL,for the 2013-2014 season, and that the look at the Red Wings happens on my fifty fifth birthday(August 20th)... what a birthday gift!!!!!!

Red Wings' news...

Red Wings hire Jim Hiller, and Andrew Brewer,as assistant coaches, under head coach Mike Babcock... Hiller was head coach of the Tri-City Americans,of the Western Hockey League, since 2009-2010,and was coach of the year of the WHL,in 2011-2012... they join Tony Granato,on the bench, with Babcock, this season...

the outlook for the San Jose Sharks:miserable!!!!!!!

the front office and general manager Doug Wilson,of the San Jose Sharks have had basically a wasted off-season,because the fanbase has been told by the actions of the inept front office that the Sharks are trying to rebuild, but the players that the team have signed, and even traded, are a tough bunch, but the scoring punch that the Sharks need, and have needed, have not been addressed one bit... however, all the tough guys, and now a cheer squad, named the Ice Girls, will not soothe the irritable fanbase, who pay top dollar to cheer the team who does deserve a Stanley Cup,and unfortunately, the Sharks at least,in one article, are being lumped together with the Atlanta Thrashers, and Quebec Nordiques,as a team, who have teams,in case of the Thrashers,a team who,for many years, was a team who had talent, but only one playoff berth(and a first round sweep by the New York Rangers),along with very poor attendance, and in the case of the Nordiques,a playoff team who got eliminated year after year,in early rounds,by the Montreal Canadiens,and/or the Buffalo Sabres, and that is not too good... rebuilding the Sharks should be the ultimate goal, but honestly, signing John Scott, and re-signing Scott Hannah, and trading who the Sharks did,and let go,in the process, does not solve the main problem that the Sharks have, and that is secondary scoring that absolutely killed the Sharks' chances, against the Los Angeles Kings,in the first round, last season... so,being a fan of the Sharks this season means that you may boo the team more often this season, because the team will not be as good as last season... who is to blame for that??? general manager Doug Wilson, and a real inept front office,period...

Red Wings' news...

Red Wings re-signed Tomas Tatar to a three year contract, and Landon Ferraro to an one year contract...

there is really nothing to talk about in the NHL,unless you want to talk about player signings, and i will talk about on how the NHL shapes up this upcoming season closer to the opening of training camp, but right now,it is really tough to get excited about hockey... so be it,for now!!!!

commentary...

the NHL is between the 2014 NHL Draft and training camp, which is usually a little boring, but this year,is a snorefest, because the Red Wings have done very little in free agency, and in simple player signings... i am very pissed off as a Red Wings' fan, because i rather talk about NHL hockey than have a snorefest, but there is very little to talk about... every team in Atlantic Division/Eastern Conference have improved,on paper and that does not include the Red Wings... i could get extremely pissed, but i wish that someone in the Red Wings' front office would do something, but not a peep from anyone.... too bad....

a men's league game in Buffalo,with a big difference....

in Buffalo,New York,a men's league team called the Piranhas rolled another league team from Essex St. Pub,13-5... a hometown player, visiting from Chicago, came home, and decided to play in the men's league game... should not make that big of a difference, right? however, when that player scored "the golden goal",to win the Stanley Cup in 2010,you are going to make that big of a difference... Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Kane came home to Buffalo,to visit, and the Piranhas won the game, when he had five goals, and five assists, and he was not the top goal scorer that night... NHL pro:1,Average Joes 0...

NBC 2014 NHL schedule,and comments...

NBC will broadcast fifteen Red Wings' games(about average, for a season),however, they will broadcast only four Canadian(as a country)games, this upcoming season(two Toronto Maple Leafs' games, and two Montreal Canadiens' games)... my opinion:what a crock of manure!!!!!! for your info, there are six Canadian teams, and not one Western Canadian team on tap... what moron made up that schedule!!!!!!! way to go,NBC!!!!!!

hockey news...

there will be three exhibition games in Poprad,Trencin, and Bratislava,Slovakia(August 20th,in Poprad,August 22nd,in Trencin, and August 23rd,in Bratislava)that will honor Pavol Demitra, who died in the Yak-42 plane crash in Yaroslavl,Russia,on 7 Septembre 2011,killing 44 people... Slovakia All-Stars,and alumni from the St. Louis Blues, who played with Demitra, while he played in the NHL... it is for supporting grass roots hockey programs,in Slovakia...

Red Wings' news...

the Red Wings unveiled plans for a new arena, today, and it is supposed to be a sports and entertainment area for downtown Detroit, and the Red Wings want to complete the arena for the 2017 NHL season... shoveling dirt to break ground is expected sometime this fall...

my opinions,not yours...

sometimes, people may disagree with my opinions, about the NHL and NFL,BUT they are my opinions on my two blogs... i try not to be a "homer",but sometimes i am,because i love the Packers, and Red Wings... however,i really talk about the real beautiful game of true blue hockey, going back to childhood,in Canada,Europe, and other places, and if the Red Wings,and/or the Packers deserve criticism,i am the first to put the hammer down on how they play, whether they play well,or they stink(which is not too often)... people may disagree with my opinions, like i said earlier, but they are my opinions, and as far as i am concerned, they are the ones that really count... i may get criticism, and readjust my opinions, but not often does that happen(ha ha)...

commentary...

as a fan of the Red Wings,i have not heard a peep from the Red Wings' front office, and have not a clue on how the Red Wings will play this upcoming season,so honestly,i am mentally preparing myself for a season of strange things going on this season, but the fact that the Red Wings have done absolutely nothing of any detail in free agency does upset me,because the teams in the Atlantic Division/Eastern Conference have all improved on paper, except the Red Wings, but one fact that the Red Wings have in their favor is that they are getting healthier as a team(eleven players on injured reserve at their peak of injuries),and that the young players who played significant time last season, for the Red Wings, have all improved in their overall play... so i have no idea on how well,or badly, the Red Wings will play this upcoming season... anyone have a coin, for flipping???

comments...

the NHL is in between the 2014 NHL draft, and training camp... most teams have developmental hockey camps throughout the areas around the city that they are based in... the Red Wings have theirs in Traverse City,in the UP(Upper Peninsula),of Michigan... besides that, the NHL is in "dead time",which is boring... snorefest!!!

blog statement...

i needed the weekend to recuperate, from not feeling well, but honestly,i am just bored in reporting hockey and/or football, because it is rather boring to report player signings all the time... i can not wait to get a new computer, and for the NHL to start next season...  it is "dead time" for both my teams(Green Bay Packers, and Detroit Red Wings),but training camps start soon, for both teams... YAY!!!!!!!!!!

commentary...

if you are a fan of the San Jose Sharks(and my father is),general manager Doug Wilson has seemed to missed the proverbial memo on why the Sharks collapsed in an epic way, against the Los Angeles Kings, losing in seven games, after being up 3-0,in their first round series... first of all, most of their core players are aging, and have no movement clauses,in their contracts, and even though they are very good, age in the NHL is not a good thing... second on my list is the fact is that the Sharks are easier to play as a team than an egg of Silly Putty on a comic strip(Silly Putty comes in plastic eggs),with a core roster that has not been overhauled in years... the last two years, the Red Wings have had the same problem, but unlike the Sharks, the Red Wings have a very good farm system to improve their team, and the Red Wings got devastated with a rash of injuries last season... to go back to the major subject of this commentary,Wilson and head coach Todd McLellan built the Sharks to beat the Red Wings, and they did, unfortunately(for Red Wings' fans),but they forgot about the other 28 teams in the NHL... their coaching staff is very good, but they have not changed the way that they play the game, overall,in almost a decade, which is very poor in terms of the overall play of the NHL... question to the braintrust of any NHL team:would your team play a game like it was 2004,not 2014??? answer:no,because your team would be beat 90% of the time... Wilson has said that the Sharks are rebuilding as a team, but unfortunately, they are rebuilding the team like it was 2004,not 2014... the main reason that the Sharks lost to the Kings was a severe lack of secondary scoring(from the back end of the roster),and very lousy goaltending, and yet,if you look at who the Sharks have signed(and traded)this offseason, the problem still remains, because like i said earlier, the Sharks' front office has no clue on how to build a playoff series winner, let alone a Stanley Cup winner, and until they get a clue on how to do it,they will languish in stupid idiocy, and remain a playoff team(if that) that can not win anything, and stay far away from the Stanley Cup... i place the blame strictly on an inept general manager, and a coaching staff that has no clue on how to win,period... i honestly feel sorry for the Sharks' fanbase, because they are a rabid bunch of fans, who really deserve a legitimate shot at a Stanley Cup...

Red Wings' news...

Red Wings re-signed Dan Cleary to an one year contract;financial terms not known...

NHL news,and comments...

it is reported that Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney will undergo arthroscopic wrist surgery this week... he injured it during the playoffs... even though he had only one goal,in thirteen Stanley Cup playoff games,it is my opinion that there was more wrong with the Penguins offensively than Crosby's mystery injury,in stunning collapsing fashion(up 3-1,against the New York Rangers, then losing in seven games),during the Stanley Cup playoffs...

commentary...

i feel sorry for Steve Moore... he was a up and coming NHL player, until he got bulldozed and literally crushed into the ice,by Todd Bertuzzi, during a Canucks/Avalanche playoff series, back in 2004... that aside, for a moment, and that was the worst thing that i have ever seen in a hockey game, his long-standing lawsuit against the then owners of the Vancouver Canucks, and Bertuzzi is scheduled to begin shortly, and there are reports that the long-standing lawsuit amount was for $38 million... well,Moore and his blood-sucking attorneys now want $68 million, instead from Bertuzzi et al. like i said earlier,i feel empathy, and sympathy for Moore,on a very personal level, and always will, but folks,in the ten years of Bertuzzi's NHL career,he has made $38 million(coincidence? do not think so...),but again,now,$68 million... i understand that Moore deserves something(definitely),and this may not be popular, but now,$68 million... to those blood sucking attorneys of Moore's,you have no class, and you are ambulance chasing parasites,of the legal system, and to Moore,i say, injuries aside, you are becoming greedy,so my empathy, and sympathy only goes so far... a total sham and shame!!!!!

commentary...

the Red Wings,so far, have done very little in free agency... the only things that the fans know is that both goaltenders from last season(Jimmy Howard, and Jonas Gustavsson)will return as the main tandem in net... if Howard does not improve on his overall numbers, there will be a lot of boos, and jeers,in Joe Louis Arena, this upcoming season... i may be moaning throughout the season, but i am a true fan of the Red Wings, and that is more important to me than i can say,period...

good wishes for Rick...

Buffalo Sabres' Hall of Fame announcer Rick Jeanneret has throat cancer... he has a 85% chance of recovery... he plans to return to the booth, this season... my opinion:of all the NHL broadcast teams,he honestly stands out,and he is only reason that i honestly listen to Sabres' games... here's to a swift recovery, and a deep hat tip to him... let us hope that he "goes to the upper shelf, where the cookies are"(one of his famous sayings, when on air,and when the Sabres score, with a high, over the shoulder shot),and comes back healthy...

Red Wings' news...

Red Wings signed Riley Sheahan(2 year),and goaltender Petr Mrazek(one year)to a two year contract extension, and to an one year contract extension,respectively...
