Ducks' goaltender Jonas Hiller simply out-played Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard,and Teemu Selanne scored the game winning goal,on a shot that in which Howard had no chance of stopping,so i tip my hat to the Ducks,tonight... an empty net goal iced the game,for the Ducks,but honestly,Hiller stood on his head,stopped many shots,with spectacular save after spectacular save,and Howard had a sub-standard game,for him...

the Red Wings have played stellar defense so far,lately,and going into the Stanley Cup playoffs,if they get in,they may surprise some people... they may not win a Stanley Cup this season,may not get out of the first round,depending on whom they may play,in first round,but to tell the honest truth,i have never been prouder of a Red Wings' team,including the four Stanley Cup Champions that i have seen play,over the past twenty one years... they have a team which lost major stars(Brad Stuart,to San Jose,Tomas Holmstrom,Brian Rafalski,who retired before last season-2012,and "the Perfect Human",and sure Hall of Fame member Nicklas Lidstrom),players lost to more games due to injury than most teams this season,and they have fought like dogs to get into eighth place,in Western Conference,with two games to go with a real chance to be in seventh place,at the end of the season... my choice for the Jack Adams(coach of the year)would be Red Wings' head coach Mike Babcock,because he and the other coaches have done a brilliant job coaching a team that could have honestly folded,and built for next season,but the winning tradition in Detroit goes on,even when the team looks like a ragtag team going into the season,and people look at the recent record,and it looks like they are struggling,and on offense they may be,but in the last eight games,they have allowed only sixteen goals with two shutouts,and that includes losing 1-0,to St. Louis,on a fluke goal... now,that is playoff defense,and going into the playoffs(if they get into the top eight,and right now,they are eighth)no team would want to play the Red Wings,and i mean NO TEAM,because they will fight,and scratch like dogs,and in the Stanley Cup playoffs,you do not win 6-5 games,too often,but you do win a lot of 2-1,and 3-2 games,and there is no shootout,and overtime,is sudden death-first team that scores-wins... BRING IT ON!!!!!! GO RED WINGS!!!!!!!!

with five days left in the 2013 NHL season,most of the playoff seeds are already set,except for the fight for the eighth seed,in both conferences... Minnesota(seventh),Columbus(tied with Minnesota,eighth),Detroit(ninth),and Dallas(tenth) are all fighting for the eighth seed in the Western Conference,and Winnipeg(ninth)is one point behind two other teams(Ottawa Senators(eighth),and New York Rangers(seventh))with the New York Islanders,in sixth place,only two points ahead of the Jets,in the Eastern Conference... the Jets,and Blue Jackets have only two games to play,so they are in trouble of not making the playoffs,unless they get some help from opponents,of the other teams,in the hunt... so it will be a dogfight...

Red Wings 4, Coyotes 0... three power play goals,an empty net goal,and a smothering defense,plus a stonewall named Jimmy Howard,in goal dominated Phoenix... two goals for Johan Franzen(first power play goal,and the empty net goal),Damien Brunner,and Valtteri Flippula all scored for the Red Wings... there is video of the Red Wings' last goal last night... it was a backhand,by Johan Franzen,from about 90+ feet,than took a wicked bounce,and through Flames' goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff "five hole",and pads... his reaction was priceless... he leaned his head,and mask back,and simply looked at the ceiling... too bad the Red Wings lost,3-2,to Calgary...

Flames 3,Red Wings 2... wild game in third period... all three goals in third period,were very odd... two of the three goals were by the Flames;winning goal by the Flames was a total mis-play by Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard behind the goal;he actually whiffed on pass and then the puck was put into a wide open net... Red Wings scored to get within one goal on a bad bounce through the legs of the Flames' goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff,but Kiprusoff basically had the best game of his season,and actually made some spectacular saves,to beat the Red Wings,many times during the game,and Howard made too many stupid mistakes,to win the game... both Calgary goals in the third period were scored by Steve Begin,on stupid plays by Howard,who had a goal go off him very early in third period(2:28,into third period),and into the back of the net... Howard looked like any one of the Three Stooges in net,and Kiprusoff looked like Houdini,tonight... he stole game,tonight,for Calgary... note:because of this loss,to Calgary,and a 3-2 overtime win,by the Columbus Blue Jackets over the Anaheim Ducks,the Blue Jackets are in eighth place,two points ahead of the Red Wings... five games remain for the Red Wings...

Henrik Zetterberg scored game winning goal,along with Johan Franzen,who put a gorgeous backhand shot,over Predators' goaltender Pekka Rinne,late in third period,and then Justin Abdelkader put in an empty net goal to ice game,as Predators tried to come back,with goaltender pulled in the last two minutes,of game... Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard stopped only nine shots in last two periods,and twenty two shots,in entire game,for a shutout,as the Red Wings smothered the Predators' offense throughout the game,and especially in last two periods,as Howard actually had an easy game in goal,tonight... the Red Wings are now two points up,on the Dallas Stars,and the Columbus Blue Jackets(tied in points,with Dallas,but in tenth place),in eighth place,in the Western Conference... it will be a dogfight...

simply said,the Red Wings had a skate-thon,last night,not a game... they scored in first two minutes of the first period,and the last two minutes of the third period,and everything in between,they did nothing offensively,and the Phoenix Coyotes out-played them throughout the game... one of the weakest efforts of the season!!!!!!

the Red Wings had no trade deadline deals,today... the Sharks traded for Raffi Torres,from the Phoenix Coyotes,and Scott Hannan from the Nashville Predators... Torres and Hannan are known for their grit and toughness... Torres was suspended for twenty five games,for knocking out Marian Hossa,of the Chicago Blackhawks,during the Stanley Cup playoffs,and suspension was reduced to twenty one games,by the NHL,during the 113 day NHL lockout... the Sharks traded Ryane Clowe to the New York Rangers... Clowe has a goal and an assist in first period,for the Rangers,against the Pittsburgh Penguins... that game is in progress... note:this was redone for this blog,as i put it on the wrong blog... sorry,folks!!!

getting stomped by the Chicago Blackhawks,the day before,was not fun to be in the game,and not fun to watch,if you enjoyed horror shows,then you enjoyed game... however the Red Wings have played well enough to be in the playoff seedings,at seventh seed,but folks,the game against the Avalanche was a great reminder of how good the Red Wings can play... they scored in the first period(Justin Abdelkader),and then twice more(Dan Cleary,on a power play,and Damien Brunner),in the second period,then Red Wings' goaltender Jimmy Howard played his best,as the Avalanche pressed the game in third period,coming very close to tying game in the closing seconds,literally.. the Avalanche may be at the bottom of the Western Conference standings,but honestly,they play teams very tough,and have some firepower to scare some very good teams,in the conference... Jamie McGinn,and Matt Duchene scored for the Avalanche,then Howard made some spectacular saves in the last minute,to ice game for the Red Wings... the game was a microcosm of the season:the Red Wings playing well in first two periods,or even in parts of the third period,but critical turnovers in the third period almost cost the Red Wings dearly,as the Avalanche pressed hard for the tying goal,late in the third period... this game was very critical for the Red Wings,and even though the Avalanche,and the Red Wings may not be the same teams,as in the mid-1990's,and early 2000's,both teams played a heck of a game,no matter what their records may be!!!!!!! the game was rough and tumble;reminded me of some classic games(i mean,in intensity),and it was clear that they know the history of the rivalry,and do not like each other,period...
