Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Senators 2,Red Wings 1,shootout... if not for goaltender Petr Mrazek, the Red Wings were dead meat... out-shot 34-17,in regulation, and overtime, and undermanned because of injuries to Pavel Datsyuk,Riley Sheahan, and two scary blade cuts,to around the eye, very early in opening minute,to Drew Miller, gave Red Wings,a very short bench throughout the game, and Mrazek was the star of the game for the Red Wings, making spectacular save after save, including a poke check in overtime, that gave the Red Wings a much needed point,in the Eastern Conference standings... the best defensive game by a goaltender, this season, for the Red Wings, under the circumstances,period...
commentary...
normally,i am a big Red Wings' fan,and i really hate to criticize the team, but two things really bother me right now, about the Red Wings... their penalty kill, and goaltending has gone downhill, this month, rather badly, and no one,in Detroit, seems to care about how bad the team is going, right now... head coach Mike Babcock seems to be blah, and i want to see some anger, urgency, and passion,in his voice, because the Red Wings seems to be morose,in their play, this month, and no one seems to care... their overall play has really sucked this month, ever since their successful six game road trip(4-1-1),earlier this season, and if i had a chance to talk to the team,i would show some anger and passion(turning a table over, for example),but are they a team that had a great team most of the season,or are they cream puffs, and like they have been playing as a team who does not care... PROVE ME WRONG,Red Wings....

commentary...
the Red Wings are a much better team than they were last season... however,in recent games, they have played to the level of their opponents, which mostly is a real bad thing, because they should be cruising to the Stanley Cup playoffs, beating inferior teams, and playing tough teams very well, but, folks, their team defense has really sucked over the last couple weeks, which means that losing to Arizona, and San Jose,is a bad harbinger of things to come... it appears that both the Coyotes, and Sharks are not going to make the Stanley Cup playoff field, even though the Sharks are not mathematically eliminated, yet(they are still in a deep hole)... in the last two weeks, the Red Wings have had three very odd games(in fact, the last three games that they have played),in which they have chased the lead, and the teams that they have been playing... until yesterday, they had not had a lead,in regulation,in the last four games, when they scored two goals,in the opening 1:46,against the New York Islanders, but then gave three goals,in the first period, then tied the game,at three,by the end of the first period, then gave up a power play goal, and a short-handed goal(the game winning goal-GWG),for the Islanders,in the first five minutes of the second period, and lost 5-4 to the Islanders,in which they had almost thirty minutes to tie the game up,to send game into overtime, but could not muster a whisper of offense... it has been just horrible to watch the Red Wings play,in the last couple of weeks, because being a fan,you just do not know, right now, what team is going to show up-the team that bulldozed through most of the season being a tough team to beat,or the team that is playing like creampuffs, lately, giving up goals,it appears,at will??? note to Red Wings:get your head out of your rear ends, and start playing Red Wings' hockey,or you will not get out of the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, and you will get bulldozed by your opponent, like last season,in the first round series, against the Boston Bruins,in which you won only one game,by the score of 1-0(Pavel Datsyuk scored that goal-the only Red Wings' player who played like himself, even though he was not 100% healthy,in that series)...

update on Red Wings' game...
this is a wild game... it is Islanders 5,Red Wings 4,after two periods... four of the Islanders' goals have come on the power play(three),and short-handed(one)... the Red Wings have one power goal(Pavel Datsyuk scored to make it 5-4)... Red Wings' penalty kill really sucks, and having the Islanders score short-handed does not help... will post final score, when game is over... note:i am doing this, because of Wrestlemania 31,today... normally i do not do this... WM 31 is about to start...
NHL historic trivia...
this will be a low scoring year, overall,in the NHL... this season's scoring leader,it appears, will have fewer than ninety points(Sidney Crosby-78 points-leader)... it will be the lowest total since Stan Mikita,of the Chicago Black Hawks had 87,in 1962...
LIVE update on Red Wings' game...
this is a wild game... after nine minutes and fifty four seconds, there have been six goals(three goals apiece),on Long Island, between the Red Wings, and the Islanders... it is 3-3,with just over twelve minutes gone(7:58,to play),and Red Wings on the power play...
Red Wings' news...
Red Wings/New York Islanders,today... have a dilemma!!!! Wrestlemania starts(pre-show),at same time, and WM 31 starts before game ends... it appears that i will see game on replay,late,tonight... however, will check score, and post it,shortly after game ends...

Red Wings' game score,and comments...
Red Wings 4,Lightning 0... finally, the Red Wings played very well, and had a very good team effort, and blanked the top scoring team in the NHL... three goals in the second period, and a clamp/shut down team effort in the third period doomed the Lightning,today... it is the first of two games this weekend...
Red Wings' news...
after missing five games with a leg injury,Pavel Datsyuk has returned to the Red Wings' lineup, against the Lightning... he should help with the team defense, and the power play... game early,in first period...

commentary...
last night's game against the Sharks was a total mess... most of the Sharks' goals were within twenty feet of the Red Wings' net,and one point blank shot went in off the left goalpost, and the third goal in first period deflected off a Red Wings' player, and through the legs of goaltender Jimmy Howard... after one period,Howard was pulled, and the odd and strange things kept happening... the game winning goal(GWG)was caused by a bad line change, leaving Patrick Marleau to cruise in on Petr Mrazek, shortly after the Red Wings closed in at 4-3,and seemed to have the momentum,to,possibly tie the game up,at four, but the real bad line change put Marleau and the Sharks out of reach... the Red Wings have not had a lead in the last two games, and they are playing rather badly,period... in the next five games, they play five current playoff-bound teams(or teams chasing them):Tampa Bay Lightning(division foe),New York Islanders,(Ottawa Senators,Boston Bruins-two teams, five points behind them, and division foes),and the Minnesota Wild... not an easy road to hoe,at all... even though, they are not playing well, being them,i would like to be in their overall position, and if i was the Red Wings' staff, and players,i would tighten up the team defense, and plow ahead into the Stanley Cup playoffs, because if you get into the Stanley Cup playoffs,it is a real crapshoot, but again, you have to be playing well,to win the Stanley Cup...

Sharks 6,Red Wings 4... lousy team defense doomed the Red Wings,tonight...

commentary...
tomorrow's Red Wings game is against the San Jose Sharks,in Detroit... both teams need two points for a win, especially the Sharks, who are on the outside looking into the Stanley Cup playoffs, because they are in a deep hole(right now, they are ten points behind the Winnipeg Jets, for wild card, and eight points behind the Calgary Flames, and the Los Angeles Kings, who are tied for eighth, and are both tied for third in the Pacific Division-loser of that "fight" most likely out of the playoffs, unless one of them beats Winnipeg),and one other thing that will come into focus, are the regulation/overtime wins, which San Jose has fewer ROW's than everybody, but Winnipeg, but San Jose would have to beat Winnipeg outright for that tiebreaker to kick in for San Jose, but ten points is a big mountain to climb, and every team ahead of San Jose has more wins than they do,and with nine games to go,they will have to run the table,to get there,if at all possible... now,to the Red Wings, they need a win to keep ahead of the Boston Bruins, and the Ottawa Senators, who are red hot(15-0-1,in the last sixteen games)... they play the Tampa Bay Lightning, along with both the Bruins, and the Senators, before the end of the season, which is a tough road to hoe... even though it does appear that the Red Wings will make the Stanley Cup playoffs for the 24th straight season, they really do not want to fight for the eighth seed, this season,so the Red Wings need,at least,a point tomorrow, against the Sharks...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Coyotes 5,Red Wings 4,overtime... Red Wings tied this strange game,FOUR separate times, before losing this game,in overtime... for a team that scored an average of 1.97 goals/per game(last in NHL),Arizona came to play, but goals by both teams went off sticks, and other objects,as both teams struggled to get momentum throughout the game, and the referees just had an awful night, calling almost every ticy-tac foul, but both teams did not play well,on defense,as just strange things happened in almost every conceivable way... a rather nasty game(edge wise):Coyotes' captain Shane Doan yapped, and hit everything on skates throughout the game... to be fair,Darren Helm even speared Coyotes' goaltender,in,it appeared, the groin(a slashing call-two minutes-was called)... not happy with not getting two points, the Red Wings got a much-needed point,in the Eastern Conference standings... as they are now,the Red Wings are six points up on the Boston Bruins, who are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings... simply the oddest game of the season...

some interesting trivia...
one key fact overlooked by NHL,and fans alike, about the San Jose Sharks,is that the Sharks score, and have scored an average of 2.72 goals/per game, this season, which is not too bad,not great either, but guess what the team goals against average/per game(G.A.A.)is,folks??? answer:amazingly, they have a 2.72 G.A.A.,too,which means that their goaltending has really sucked throughout this season... for example:somewhere around a 2.2 G.A.A. is considered very, very good... have a great off-season,Sharks,and do some golfing!!!!!!!

commentary...
it appears that the Red Wings got away with one,finally... Justin Abdelkader scored the game winning goal(GWG)in overtime.with a broken stick, when Alex Pietrangelo broke Abdelkader's stick, while in the crease, and Abdelkader tapped in puck into net... NHL rule 10.3 states that player can play when breaking stick(he must drop it),but if stick touches puck, there is supposed to be a minor (two minute) penalty on the player, but, folks, the referees missed the call,as Abdelkader and Pietrangelo were scrambling for the puck, inches from the net... well, cry over that one,St. Louis, you really have the blues,now... after years of brutal games, between both teams, including this one(both teams were in the old Central Division, before the Red Wings moved to the Eastern Conference),i really have no sympathy for the Blues,period...

commentary...
theere will be a scapegoat in San Jose, this season, because of the Sharks, most likely, missing the Stanley Cup playoffs... the fall guy should be general manager Doug Wilson, because he has done a terrible job.as GM,but unfortunately, most likely,it will be head coach Todd McLellan... in fact,it should be both that should go,after this season, because the Sharks were put together this season,to simply fail,period... signing enforcers, and trading away good players, one year too late, and have an American Hockey League team,in Worcester,Mass.,that has not had a major call up that really stuck, except for Tomas Hertl,in years, and that one player will not change the team at all... unfortunately,Wilson must have something on owner,Hasso Plattner(a deal that he will not be fired),because after this season, and last season's Stanley Cup debacle,he should be fired, too, but he has not done anything great,as general manager,in years... he built the team to beat the Red Wings, which he did,but honestly, his core players have gotten long in the tooth, and the team has not improved,to the point that the team has not gotten past the second round, except 2009-2010,and 2010-2011,against the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Vancouver Canucks,in back to back Western Conference Finals, which is good, but folks,i hate to mention that the Sharks won only one game,in both years, against the Blackhawks, and Canucks... every other year recently has ended in playoff failure, even in epic, and spectacular fashion, last season, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions Los Angeles Kings, having a 3-0 lead in games, and losing in seven games(only the fifth team to lose in that way,in professional sports history)... what a real mess,in San Jose...

Red Wings' game score,and comments...
Lightning 3,Red Wings 1... an empty net goal decided the game... good game by both teams, but an bad turnover of the puck on the Tampa Bay blue line, and a three on two breakaway, with the goal scorer coming late to the Red Wings' defensive zone led to game winning goal(GWG),on a simple slap shot past Jimmy Howard, for the Lightning...

major trouble in San Jose...
well, after a 5-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, last night, the San Jose Sharks are five points behind the Los Angeles Kings, for eighth place,in the Western Conference, and are still in tenth place,in the conference... is it time to put in the final nail in the coffin for the San Jose Sharks, for the season??? they would have to go 10-2,to have a shot at the Stanley Cup playoffs, and with nine of the last twelve games on the road, and with losing ten of the last thirteen games, when at home, the Sharks look cooked... the odd turning point last night was when the Sharks pulled Antti Niemi, after three goals,in eight shots, and they were still in the first period... put up the white flag,if i ever saw it,last night... i do not blame the players in this fiasco,as much as i blame the coaching staff, and, like always, the front office... head coach Todd McLellan has lost the team(they have tuned him out),it appears, and even though they are saying the right things, like "we need to come together and play better",the Sharks appear to be dead Shark,in the water, and the way that they have been playing later,at critical times, they are mentally fragile, and break down, when things start going bad,and that is not a good thing,at all... the problems with the Sharks starts at the absolute top, with an absentee owner,Hasso Plattner, who spends most of his time, living in Germany(nothing wrong with living in Germany),a tone deaf general manager,in Doug Wilson, who never learned how to put a playoff winner together,a very good head coach, who has lost the team,in a way that is obvious,a hockey team of players who never was put together to win in April,May,or June, and finally, never got over the epic seven game collapse, against the Los Angeles Kings,in the Stanley Cup playoffs, last season,no matter what they said, early this season...
Tuesday, March 17, 2015
commentary...
tonight's San Jose Sharks' game is perhaps the most critical game of this season, against the Winnipeg Jets,in Winnipeg, because without the two points, they are in a hole that may be impossible to climb out of,and since they are five points behind the Los Angeles Kings, and the Calgary Flames, who tied for seventh place,in the Western Conference(Calgary has the edge for the seventh seed, with total wins being a tiebreaker),so the Sharks have to beat the Kings for eighth place in the Western Conference, and five points is a big mole hill that the Sharks may make into a mountain, without a win,tonight...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 5,Pittsburgh Penguins 1... after being routed by the Philadelphia Flyers,7-2,yesterday,the Red Wings got pissed, had a players' meeting, came out,and put the proverbial wood to the Penguins... Pittsburgh spent a penalty filled game(for them),in the penalty box, tried to be goons throughout the game, mugging everyone playing in red and white, including goaltender Petr Mrazek... two very important points that the Red Wings really needed... i laughed throughout, and enjoyed the game...

good news... bad news...
good news:Red Wings have scored a power play goal in eight straight games for the longest streak in the NHL... bad news:Red Wings have allowed a power play goal in nine straight games, maybe the longest streak in NHL(they allowed three power play goals,today)... that is a paradox, isn't it,folks...
commentary...
both the Red Wings and Sharks are playing very bad right now... one appears that they will be in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and one appears that they are headed to an early golf tee time... both teams gave up four goals,in the third period... Red Wings almost always lose in Philadelphia, and the Sharks lost, again,at home, against the Chicago Blackhawks... Red Wings are 5-5-1,and the Sharks are 5-6,in the last eleven games... fortunately, the Red Wings have games in hand against most every other team ahead of them... unfortunately, the Sharks do not have games in hand on most of the teams ahead of them... depending on the Kings' game against the Nashville Predators, tonight, the Sharks are still,at least three points, behind the Kings,in the race for a playoff spot, with now thirteen games left in the season... both teams are on the road:Detroit on a four game road trip, playing the Pittsburgh Penguins, tomorrow, and a trip to Florida,to play the Florida Panthers, and the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Sharks are on a two week, seven game road trip, starting Tuesday,in Winnipeg... in the Eastern Conference, the Red Wings have a cushion to make the Stanley Cup playoffs, even if they lose all three games... the Sharks have no such cushion,or room for error,to make their run to make the Stanley Cup playoffs... with today's losses to the Flyers(Red Wings),and to the Blackhawks(Sharks)both teams have a slimmer cushion to make the Stanley Cup playoffs, especially the Sharks(at least three points out of a playoff spot),and if the Red Wings do not get out of their funk, soon they will have a hole to dig out of,and both teams can not afford that,at this time of the season...
Red Wings' game score,and comment...
Flyers 7,Red Wings 2... Red Wings stink up the joint, giving up four goals,in third period... double UGH!!!!!!
commentary...
Red Wings have lost nine straight games,in the home arena of the Philadelphia Flyers... note:the last time the Red Wings won in Philadelphia, was game two in the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals,on way to a four game sweep, that year(a 4-2 win for the Red Wings)...
correction...
the Sharks have scored only four more goals than they have allowed this entire season... i corrected the previous post...
commentary...
the San Jose Sharks are tenth in the Western Conference, but fifth in the Pacific Division,so they are in a hole, dug by a recent eight game home losing streak... amazingly, they are still in the playoff hunt, only three points behind the defending Stanley Cup Champions Los Angeles Kings, but if it was so easy to beat the Kings for the Stanley Cup playoffs,so be it... however, folks, simple question:why are they tenth,in the Western Conference, behind Winnipeg,Vancouver,Calgary,Minnesota, and Los Angeles??? why,as of right now, they have scored only four more goals, than they have allowed,in this entire season??? true, they have won four of last five games(they are only 5-5,in the last ten games, however),but they play a banged up Chicago Blackhawks team this afternoon, but Chicago is a team who can beat any team in the NHL... with fourteen games to play, they need to beat the Kings to the finish, and hope that the teams ahead of them start losing games,in regulation, because "the curse of the three point game" may come back to bite them,in the long run... note:you get a point for a overtime/shootout loss, and that is what i mean by saying that "the curse of the three point game" may come back to bite them... they need a major winning streak,to balance out what happened earlier this season... they need twenty of a possible twenty eight points,i estimate, over the next fourteen games to possibly get into the Stanley Cup playoffs, but folks, the Kings are a team who is not going to lie down, and give the Sharks the playoff spot... by the way,the Kings have won two of the last three Stanley Cups,so they are a tough team to beat... the teams ahead of them have most of the tiebreakers to beat the Sharks,if season ended today, but one team does not,and that is the Kings, but right now,the Kings have a three point lead on the Sharks, but again the Sharks, are in fifth place,in the Pacific Division, and no fifth place team(in a division)will make the Stanley Cup playoffs,at least, not this season... so,the Sharks are in a hole... that does suck, doesn't it???

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Blue Jackets 3,Red Wings 1... Red Wings got out-played by Columbus, and looked very, very tired in the way that they have played lately... one good thing, and the only good thing:Red Wings have a current seven game streak of getting a power play goal,in their games... that is the longest streak in the NHL,this season, but nothing else is working for the Red Wings... note:now the Red Wings go to Philadelphia, where they have not won, since June 1997... UGH!!!!!!!

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Red Wings 5,Oilers 2... to end the game,Pavel Datsyuk shot the puck 196 feet off both goalposts, for an empty net goal(second for Red Wings,tonight)... fact:in the last forty seven games(including tonight),against the Oilers, the Red Wings are 29-2-16(only two regulation losses for the Red Wings,in that time)... in the last seventeen games, against the Oilers, the Red Wings are 15-0-2,and have lost eight straight games to the Red Wings...

Red Wings' game score,and commentary...
Boston Bruins 5,Red Wings 3... bad team defense, and four of the five goals, scored by the Bruins were on the power play, and shorthanded(two goals apiece),as the Red Wings really stunk up the joint... to tell the truth, the Bruins needed these two points more than the Red Wings,as they have won three of the four games,in the season series(one of the games went to overtime/shootout),with one more in Detroit,April 2nd... Red Wings came out flatter than a crepe, and never recovered after the Bruins went off to a 4-1 lead, after two periods... in the last five games, the Red Wings have played like a team on cruise control, and they better get their heads out of their rear ends, with eighteen games to play... they were the last NHL team to lose back to back games in regulation(that ends today)... the Red Wings have done a lot of things right this season, but in the last week or so,they have gone braindead,so head coach Mike Babcock must be fuming, along with the fans, because the last week or so,has really sucked,period...

a great Sharks' win,with grit,finally...
normally,i do not mention the San Jose Sharks, unless i mention the Sharks' front office, which i really do not like, but they shut down the Montreal Canadiens for the third straight time(overall),4-0,for their absolute best game of the 2014-2015 NHL season... i guess they were pissed about losing two totally winnable games,in their last two third periods, losing leads in both games... i was a true hockey fan, tonight, when the Sharks beat a goaltender,in Carey Price, who had won ten straight road games, including beating the Red Wings,2-0,on February 16th... the Sharks are still in 10th in the Western Conference standings, but are tied with the Calgary Flames, and the Los Angeles Kings,in points, but San Jose has played two more games than the other two teams, and that is the reason that the Sharks are still in tenth place in the Western Conference standings... the Sharks play the Vancouver Canucks, tomorrow, and then they play in Vancouver,Saturday,in their next two games... basically, they need four points, but would love to get three of four points, from the Canucks... they are still in a big hole that eight straight home losses will do for you... the Sharks actually did the Red Wings a big favor by stomping the Canadiens... Montreal stunk up the joint, tonight, and laid a big egg...
Red Wings' trade news...
in the last two days, the Red Wings have traded for Erik Cole(from the Dallas Stars),and Marek Zidlicky(from the New Jersey Devils)... my opinion:honestly, too high a price for Cole:two name prospects, but with a real glut of talent,in Grand Rapids, and the fact that both have spent time in Europe, and a second round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft,it may work out,for now,and for Zidlicky(an old nemesis from Nashville),so the Red Wings know about his overall talents, and for an unknown third round draft pick in the 2016 NHL Draft,he may help for the rest of the season...
