Red Wings' history...
the Detroit Red Wings had not won a Stanley Cup for 42 years(1955-1997)... today marks the end to that streak of futility:in 1997,Red Wings won their then eighth Stanley Cup in team history:they beat Philadelphia Flyers,2-1,to complete a sweep,in that year's Stanley Cup Finals...
