the Flames played Chicago,San Jose,Washington,Detroit(twice),Nashville,New York Rangers,Phoenix(twice);all playoff teams, from last year, and their cross-provincial rival,in "the battle of Alberta"-Edmonton,three times, went 8-11-1,in first 20 games, playing those teams named, then played Philadelphia,in game 22... was 18-20-4,after losing to Detroit,in overtime,on night of Tom Kostopoulos gave Brad Stuart,a jaw jack, broke Stuart's Jaw,and received a six game suspension, from the NHL,which the Calgary general manager(Jay Feaster)said that he should not be suspended, for finishing his body check, when Stuart landed brutally,on his face... they never recovered from the sub-.500 start, and the suspension of Kostopoulos took the heart for a while, but went 16-3-4,from January 21st,to March 10th,to climb within reach of the playoff hunt, after a horrid, but brutal start, but was 5-4-3,after that,to end season three points out of the playoffs...
they have a team who score, play defense but they are a little long in tooth,at key positions, with Jarome Iginla, their captain, and Miikka Kiprusoff in goal, who may a very good goaltender but rarely has had the team around him to go further than into the playoffs, even though they did lose,2-1,in the seventh game in 2004 Stanley Cup Finals,to Tampa Bay(actually, the last game before the 2005 NHL lockout),so Calgary has a playoff team,on paper,if only they can avoid the bad start of 2010,and Kiprusoff can have a year to remind the NHL that he is "the man",in Calgary...
